Inflammation is a driving force of hematopoietic stem cells(HSCs) aging, causing irreversible exhaustion of functional HSCs. However, the underlying mechanism of HSCs erosion by inflammatory insult remains poorly understood. Here, we find that transient LPS exposure primes aged HSCs to undergo accelerated differentiation at the expense of self-renewal, leading to depletion of HSCs. Meanwhile, the central regulator nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB) mediating functional impairment by inflammation insult induces differential transcriptional response in aged HSCs compared with young HSCs, with precocious activation of myeloid lineage genes. Altered compartmentalization and chromatin loop formation are associated with aging-related differential transcriptional response in HSCs upon lipopolysaccharide(LPS)stimulation. Mechanistically, enhancer and promoter regions of myeloid lineage genes in aged HSCs are more accessible and display more rapid and prominent CTCF occupancy upon LPS stimulation. Our study provides comprehensive resources for the three-dimensional(3D)genome structure of HSCs and sheds light into the ordered genome organization and the associated transcriptome signature underlying HSCs aging.

Microstructure Evolution and Mechanical Properties of a SMATed Mg Alloy under In Situ SEM Tensile Testing

Surface mechanical attrition treatment（SMAT） has been recently applied to bulk polycrystalline magnesium（Mg） alloys with gradient grain size distribution from the impact surface to inside matrix, hence effectively improving the alloys＇ mechanical performances. However, in-depth understanding of their mechanical property enhancement and grain size-dependent fracture mechanism remains unclear. Here,we demonstrated the use of in situ micro-tensile testing inside a high resolution scanning electron microscope（SEM） to characterize the microstructure evolution, in real time, of SMATed Mg alloy AZ31 samples with different grain sizes of ~10 μm（＇coarse-grain sample＇） and ~5 μm（＇fine-grain sample＇）, respectively, and compared the results with those of a raw Mg alloy AZ31. The quantitative tensile tests with in situ SEM imaging clearly showed that fracture of ‘fine-grain sample＇ was dominated by intergranular cracks,while both trans-granular and intergranular cracks led to the final failure of the ‘coarse-grain samples＇.It is expected that this in situ SEM characterization technique, coupled with quantitative tensile testing method, could be applicable for studying other grain-refined metals/alloys, allowing to optimize their mechanical performances by controlling the grain sizes and their gradient distribution.

Extremal optimization for optimizing kernel function and its parameters in support vector regression

The performance of the support vector regression (SVR) model is sensitive to the kernel type and its *** determination of an appropriate kernel type and the associated parameters for SVR is a challenging research topic in the field of support vector *** this study,we present a novel method for simultaneous optimization of the SVR kernel function and its parameters,formulated as a mixed integer optimization problem and solved using the recently proposed heuristic 'extremal optimization (EO)'.We present the problem formulation for the optimization of the SVR kernel and parameters,the EO-SVR algorithm,and experimental tests with five benchmark regression *** results of comparison with other traditional approaches show that the proposed EO-SVR method provides better generalization performance by successfully identifying the optimal SVR kernel function and its parameters.

The Citron homology domain of MAP4Ks improves outcomes of traumatic brain injury

The mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase kinases(MAP4Ks)signaling pathway plays a pivotal role in axonal regrowth and neuronal degeneration following *** targeting this pathway is beneficial to brain injury remains *** this study,we showed that adeno-associated virus-delivery of the Citron homology domain of MAP4Ks effectively reduces traumatic brain injury-induced reactive gliosis,tauopathy,lesion size,and behavioral *** inhibition of MAP4Ks replicated the ameliorative effects observed with expression of the Citron homology ***,the Citron homology domain acted as a dominant-negative mutant,impeding MAP4K-mediated phosphorylation of the dishevelled proteins and thereby controlling the Wnt/β-catenin *** findings implicate a therapeutic potential of targeting MAP4Ks to alleviate the detrimental effects of traumatic brain injury.

A Novel Face Recognition Algorithm for Distinguishing Faces with Various Angles

In order to distinguish faces of various angles during face recognition, an algorithm of the combination of approximate dynamic programming （ADP） called action dependent heuristic dynamic programming （ADHDP） and particle swarm optimization （PSO） is presented. ADP is used for dynamically changing the values of the PSO parameters. During the process of face recognition, the discrete cosine transformation （DCT） is first introduced to reduce negative effects. Then, Karhunen-Loeve （K-L） transformation can be used to compress images and decrease data dimensions. According to principal component analysis （PCA）, the main parts of vectors are extracted for data representation. Finally, radial basis function （RBF） neural network is trained to recognize various faces. The training of RBF neural network is exploited by ADP-PSO. In terms of ORL Face Database, the experimental result gives a clear view of its accurate efficiency.

Spinodal dynamics of metastable glass transition domains in amorphous polymer towards thermomechanically tailorable shape memory effect

Glass transition plays a critical role to determine the dynamic behaviors of amorphous shape memory polymers(SMPs).However,the fundamental relationships between shape memory effect(SME)and dynamic glass transition have not been well understood,even though this topic has been studied for *** this study,we apply a mean-square displacement function of Adam-Gibbs(AG)domain size model to explore metastable glass transition between normal glass state and rubbery state of amorphous SMPs,based on both mode-coupling theory and mean-field model.A statistic viscosity equation is formulated to study the dynamic glass transition of metastable AG domains in an amorphous SMP.A dynamically spinodal model is also developed to connect dynamic glass transitions to thermomechanical processes,based on statistic viscosity equation and phase transition ***,using the spinodal models,multiple shape memory behaviors have been predicted for amorphous SMPs with dual-,triple-and quadruple-SMEs,resulted from their different routes of themomechanical ***,the proposed models are verified using the experimental data reported in literature.

SURFACE FUNCTIONALIZATION OF POLYSTYRENE TO BIND WITH FMRF PEPTIDES FOR NOVEL BIOCOMPATIBILITY

A generic method was described to change surface biocompatibihty by introducing reactive functional groups onto surfaces of polymeric substrates and covalently binding them with biomolecules.A block copolymer with protected carboxylic acid functionality,poly（styrene-b-tert-butyl acrylate）（PS-PtBA）,was spin coated from solutions in toluene on a bioinert polystyrene（PS） substrate to form a bilayer structure：a surface layer of the poly（tert-butyl acrylate）（PtBA） blocks that order at the air-polymer interface and a bottom layer of the PS blocks that entangle with the PS *** thickness of the PtBA layer and the area density of tert-butyl ester groups of PtBA increased linearly with the concentration of the spin coating solution until a 2 nm saturated monolayer coverage of PtBA was achieved at the concentration of 0.4%W/*** protected carboxylic acid groups were generated by exposing the tert-butyl ester groups of PtBA to trifluoroacetic acid （TFA） for bioconjugation with FMRF peptides via amide *** yield of the bioconjugation reaction for the saturated surface was calculated to be 37.1%based on X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS） *** success of each functionalization step was demonstrated and characterized by XPS and contact angle *** polymer functionalization/modification concept can be virtually applied to any polymeric substrate by choosing appropriate functional block copolymers and biomolecules to attain novel biocompatibility.

Do large-scale farmers use more pesticides? Empirical evidence from rice farmers in five Chinese provinces

It is of great theoretical and practical significance to understand the rules of the differences in pesticide use behaviors between large-scale and small-scale farmers,so as to regulate the behavior of farmers differently and improve the quality and safety of *** overall pesticide use behavior of large-scale farmers was characterized by large doses and high application frequency,while that of small-scale farmers was characterized by small doses and low application *** econometric test showed that(i)the proportion of staple food ration has a significant negative impact on the single dose exceeding the standard and pesticide application frequency of small-scale farmers,and the increase of the proportion of staple food ration will reduce the demand among small-scale farmers for pesticides;(ii)yield effect has a greater impact on the frequency of pesticide application by large-scale farmers,and the large yield effect will increase the frequency of pesticide application among large-scale ***,in pesticide use behaviors,large-scale farmers should reduce pesticide quantity and increase efficiency,while small-scale farmers improve the level of plant protection.

Transferring and Bounding Single Photon in Waveguide Controlled by Quantum Node Based on Atomic Ensemble

We study the scattering process of photons confined in a one-dimensional optical waveguide by a laser controlled atomic ensemble. The investigation leads to an alternative setup of quantum node controlling the coherent transfer of single photon in such one dimensional continuum. To exactly solve the effective scattering equations by using the discrete coordinate approach, we simulate the linear waveguide as a coupled resonator array at the high energy limit. We generally calculate the transmission eoet^cients and its vanishing at resonance reflects the good controllability of our scheme. We also show that there exist two bound states to describe the localize photons around the cavity.
