To the Editor： Total knee arthroplasty （TKA） is one of the most common orthopedic surgeries to reduce pain and improve function for patients with osteoarthritis. However, TKA is associated with high-risk of perioperative morbidity and mortality. We presented a patient who developed severe acute respiratory distress syndrome （ARDS） postoperatively after bilateral TKA procedure. A 68-year-old female patient was scheduled for bilateral total knee replacement because ofosteoarthritis. Her past medical history was unremarkable, unless pacemaker implantation for Mobitz type II second-degree atrioventricular block. There was no significant finding in her preoperative examination. She had the operation under general anesthesia and was extubated uneventfully after the surgery.

Objective This study aimed to compare the current Essen rabies post-exposure immunization schedule(0-3-7-14-28)in China and the simple 4-dose schedule(0-3-7-14)newly recommended by the World Health Organization in terms of their safety,efficacy,and *** Mice were vaccinated according to different immunization schedules,and blood was collected for detection of rabies virus neutralizing antibodies(RVNAs)on days 14,21,28,35,and 120after the first ***,different groups of mice were injected with lethal doses of the CVS-11 virus on day 0,subjected to different rabies immunization schedules,and assessed for morbidity and death *** a clinical trial,185 rabies-exposed individuals were selected for post-exposure vaccination according to the Essen schedule,and blood was collected for RVNAs detection on days 28and 42 after the first *** A statistically significant difference in RVNAs between mice in the Essen and 0-3-7-14 schedule groups was observed on the 35th day(P0.05)in RVNAs levels at any time *** post-exposure immune protective test showed that the survival rate of mice in the control group was 20%,whereas that in the immunization groups was 40%.In the clinical trial,the RVNAs positive conversion rates on days 28(14 days after 4 doses)and 42(14 days after 5 doses)were both 100%,and no significant difference in RVNAs levels was observed(P>0.05).Conclusion The simple 4-dose schedule can produce sufficient RVNAs levels,with no significant effect of a delayed fourth vaccine dose(14–28 d)on the immunization potential.

The complexity and irregularity of the internal structure of aluminum foam and the particularity of the fabricating method make it difficult to establish a three-dimensional model that can accurately reflect the internal structure of aluminum foam-polyurethane composites. This study presents a method of three-dimensional reconstruction of the Materialise's Interactive Medical Image Control System (MIMICS) adjacent mask based on Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) data. Firstly, spherical open cell aluminum foam-polyurethane composites with different pore sizes (5 mm, 7 mm, 9 mm) were prepared. Then the corresponding DICOM data of the spherical open cell aluminum foam-polyurethane composites were obtained by CT-scan. Based on adjacent mask, the three-dimensional simulation model of spherical open cell aluminum foam-polyurethane composites was successfully reconstructed in MIMICS. In order to verify the feasibility of this modeling method, a quasi-static compression simulation of the three-dimensional simulation model was carried out by ABAQUS, and the simulated stress-strain curves were acquired. The quasi-static compression experiments were performed on the prepared aluminum foam-polyurethane composites, and the experimental nominal stress-strain curves were obtained. The simulated nominal stress-strain curves were compared with the experimental nominal stress-strain curves. Results show that the two curves are basically the same. The feasibility and accuracy of the three-dimensional modeling method for the aluminum foam-polyurethane composites are verified.

An approach of modeling viscosity, unsteady partially cavitating flows around lifting bodies is presented. By em ploying an one-fluid Navier-Stokers solver, the algorithm is proved to be able to handle two-dimensional laminar cavitating flows at moderate Reynolds numbe r. Based on the state equation of water-vapor mixture, the constructive relatio ns of densities and pressures are established. To numerically simulate the cavi ty wall, different pseudo transition of density models are presumed. The finite-volume method is adopted and the algorithm can be extended to three-dimensional cavitating flows.

5,11,17,23-Tetrakis-1′, 1′-dimethylethyl-25,27-dihydroxy-26,28-1″, 7″, 13″-trioxa-4″, 10″-dithiatridecylcene-calix[4]arene (calix[4]dithiacrown-5) and its O-methylated derivate (dimethylcalix[4]dithiacrown-5) were synthesized fromp-tert-butylcalix[4] arene via 1, 3-lower rim functionalization with chloroethyltosylate, followed by ring-closing condensation with β,β/t'-dimercaptoethyl ether in the presence of sodium ethoxide as a base in reflux ethanol under nitrogen atmosphere, followed by methylation with methyltosylate in the presence of NaH as a base in dioxane. It was found that they can coordinate with platinous chloride and the platinous complexes are efficient catalysts for the hydrosilylation of olefins with triethoxysilane.
