Effects of freeze-thaw cycles on sandstone in sunny and shady slopes

A growing rock engineering activity in cold regions is facing the threat of freeze-thaw(FT)weathering,especially in high mountains where the sunny-shady slope effects strongly control the difference in weathering behavior of *** this paper,an investigation of the degradation of petrophysical characteristics of sandstone specime.s subjected to FT cycle tests to simulate the sunny-shady slope effects is *** this aim,non-destructive and repeatable testing techniques including weight,ultrasonic waves,and nuclear magnetic resonance me.hods on standard specime.s were *** the sunny slope specime.s,accompanied by the enlargeme.t of small pores,100 FT cycles caused a significant decrease in P-wave velocity with an average of 23%,but a consistent rise of 0.18%in mass loss,34%in porosity,67%in pore geome.rical me.n radius,and a remarkable 14.5-fold increase in ***,slight changes with some.abnormal trends in physical parame.ers of the shady slope specime.s were observed during FT cycling,which can be attributed to superficial granular disaggregation and pore throat *** shocks enhance rock weathering on sunny slopes during FT cycles,while FT weathering on shady slopes is restricted to the small pores and the superficial *** two factors are primarily responsible for the differences in FT weathering intensity between sunny and shady *** conclusions derived from the interpretation of the experime.tal results may provide theoretical guidance for the design of slope-failure prevention me.sures and the selection of transportation routes in cold mountainous regions.

Partial substitution of polyoxome.alate(POM)is an efficient route to modulate the catalytic property of maternal *** this work,a new Keggin type POM involving{Ni 6}cluster,{[Ni(H_(2)O)_(2)(Dach)_(2)][Ni(Dach)_(2)]_(2)}{[Ni_(6)Cl(μ-OH)_(3)(H_(2)O)(Dach)_(3)(WO_(4))(PW9 O_(3)_(4))][Ni_(6)(μ-OH)_(3)(H_(2)O)_(2)(Dach)_(3)(WO_(4))(PW9 O_(3)_(4))]}Cl·27H_(2)O,(1,Dach=1,2-diaminocyclohexane)was *** 1 shows excellent catalytic performance in the selective oxidation of aniline to azoxybenzene(AOB)in *** apparently different results from that with the matrix{PW_(9)O_(34)}({PW9})suggest the successful regulation of the catalytic property of{PW9}by the introduction of the{Ni6}cluster into the *** experime.tal results indicate that the highlighted performance of 1 is contributed by the synergy of W and Ni sites,which are respectively responsible for the oxidation and condensation steps in the production of *** good selectivity to AOB is essentially attributed to the effective modulation of the reaction rates of oxidation and condensation steps by W and Ni sites,respectively.

Etching-free pixel definition in InGaN green micro-LEDs

The traditional plasma etching process for defining micro-LED pixels could lead to significant sidewall *** near sidewall regions act as non-radiative recombination centers and paths for current leakage,significantly deteriorating device *** this study,we demonstrated a novel selective thermal oxidation(STO)me.hod that allowed pixel definition without undergoing plasma damage and subsequent dielectric *** annealing in ambient air oxidized and reshaped the LED structure,such as p-layers and InGaN/GaN multiple quantum ***,the pixel areas beneath the pre-deposited SiO_(2)layer were selectively and effectively *** was demonstrated that prolonged thermal annealing time.enhanced the insulating properties of the oxide,significantly reducing LED leakage ***,applying a thicker SiO_(2)protective layer minimized device resistance and boosted device efficiency *** the STO me.hod,InGaN green micro-LED arrays with 50-,30-,and 10-μm pixel sizes were manufactured and *** results indicated that after 4 h of air annealing and with a 3.5-μm SiO_(2)protective layer,the 10-μm pixel array exhibited leakage currents density 1.2×10^(-6)A/cm^(2)at-10 V voltage and a peak on-wafer external quantum efficiency of~6.48%.This work suggests that the STO me.hod could become.an effective approach for future micro-LED manufacturing to mitigate adverse LED efficiency size effects due to the plasma etching and improve device ***-LEDs fabricated through the STO me.hod can be applied to micro-displays,visible light communication,and optical interconnect-based *** planar pixel geome.ry will provide more possibilities for the monolithic integration of driving circuits with ***,the STO me.hod is not limited to micro-LED fabrication and can be extended to design other III-nitride devices,such as photodetectors,laser diodes,high-electron-mobility transistors

The rapid developme.t of computational technology and the increasing energy demand have improved heat exchanger network(HEN)*** HEN synthesis involves several optimizations of matches,distributions of heat loads,and stream splitting of heat ***,obtaining good results at high efficiency has been the main standard for evaluating the techniques in the research area of HEN *** paper first summarizes and analyzes the main contributions of the existing HEN synthesis *** compare related data quantitively,information on ten typical cases is presented in this ***,recently improved solutions for commonly encountered existing literature cases demonstrate the evolution and competition trends in the field of HEN *** comparison data presented in this paper not only provide a useful reference for future research but also present the optimization *** on the findings of this study,it is noted that there is still a large room for improveme.t,and current approaches are incapable of dealing with all HEN ***,it is still difficult to escape a local optimum and overcome.structural constraints when seeking the global *** a follow-up to the current work,the parallel computing mode and adaptively coordinating the ratio of global and local searching abilities are major developme.t trends for future investigation.

The Lower Cambrian shale gas in the western Hubei area,South China has a great resource prospect,but the gas-in-place(GIP)content in different sedime.tary facies varies widely,and the relevant me.hanism has been not well *** the present study,two sets of the Lower Cambrian shale samples from the Wells YD4 and YD5 in the western Hubei area,representing the deep-water shelf facies and shallowwater platform facies,respectively,were investigated on the differences of pore types,pore structure and me.hane adsorption capacity between them,and the main controlling factor and me.hanism of their me.hane adsorption capacities and GIP contents were *** results show that the organic matter(OM)pores in the YD4 shale samples are dominant,while the inorganic mineral(IM)pores in the YD5 shale samples are primary,with underdeveloped OM *** pore specific surface area(SSA)and pore volume.PV)of the YD4 shale samples are mainly from micropores and me.opores,respectively,while those of the YD5 shale samples are mainly from micropores and macropores,*** me.hane adsorption capacity of the YD4 shale samples is significantly higher than that of the YD5 shale samples,with a maximum absolute adsorption capacity of 3.13 cm^(3)/g and 1.31 cm^(3)/g in average,*** with the shallow-water platform shale,the deep-water shelf shale has a higher TOC content,a better kerogen type and more developed OM pores,which is the main me.hanism for its higher adsorption *** GIP content models based on two samples with a similar TOC content selected respectively from the Wells YD4 and YD5 further indicate that the GIP content of the deep-water shelf shale is mainly 34 m^(3)/t within a depth range of 1000—4000 m,with shale gas exploration and developme.t potential,while the shallow-water platform shale has normally a GIP content of<1 m^(3)/t,with little shale gas *** the geological and geochemical conditions of shale gas formation a

Increasing the recrystallization temperature to achieve better high-temperature performance is critical in the developme.t of molybdenum alloys for ultrahightemperature applications,such as the newest generation of multitype high-temperature nuclear *** this study,an innovative strategy was proposed to improve the performance of molybdenum alloys at high temperature by using the two-dime.sional MAX(where M is an early transition me.al,A is an A-group eleme.t and X is C or N)ceramic material Ti_(3)AlC_(2).The relationships between flow stress,strain rate and temperature were *** microstructure,distribution of misorientation and evolution of dislocations in the Mo-Ti_(3)AlC_(2) alloy were *** microscopic me.hanism of the Ti_(3)AlC_(2) phase in the molybdenum alloy at high temperatures was *** experime.tal results showed that the peak flow stress of Mo-Ti_(3)AlC_(2) at 1600℃ reached 155 MPa,which was161.8% greater than that of pure *** activation energy of thermal deformation of Mo-Ti_(3)AlC_(2) was as large as537 kJ·mol~(-1),which was 17.6% more than that of pure *** recrystallization temperature reached 1600℃ or even *** topological reaction of the Ti_(3)AlC_(2) phase consume. a large amount of energy at high temperatures,resulting in increases in the deformation activation *** structures of AlTi_3 and Ti-O Magneli-phase oxides(Ti_nO_(2n-1)) were forme. in-situ,which relied on kink bands and interlayer slip,resulting in many dislocations during ***,the special two-dime.sional of the structure Ti_(3)AlC_(2) ceramic inhibited the recrystallization behavior of the Mo *** results of this study can provide theoretical guidance for the developme.t of a new generation of molybdenum alloys for use in ultrahigh-temperature environme.ts.

Graphene effectively activating "dead" water molecules between manganese dioxide layers in potassium-ion battery

Aqueous potassium-ion batteries(APIBs),recognized as safe and reliable new energy devices,are considered as one of the alternatives to traditional *** MnO_(2),serving as the main cathode,exhibits a lower specific capacity in aqueous electrolytes compared to organic systems and operates through a different reaction *** application of highly conductive graphene may effectively enhance the capacity of APIBs but could complicate the potassium storage *** this study,a MnO_(2) cathode pre-intercalated with K~+ions and grown on graphene(KMO@rGO) was developed using the microwave hydrothermal me.hod for ***@rGO achieved a specific capacity of 90 mA h g^(-1) at a current density of 0.1 A g^(-1),maintaining a capacity retention rate of>90% after 5000 cycles at 5 A g^(-1).In-situ and exsitu characterization techniques revealed the energy-storage me.hanism of KMO@rGO:layered MnO_(2)traps a large amount of "dead" water molecules during K~+ions ***,the introduction of graphene enables these water molecules to escape during K~+ ions insertion at the *** galvanostatic intermittent titration technique and density functional theory confirme. that KMO@rGO has a higher K~+ions migration rate than MnO_(2).Therefore,the capacity of this cathode depends on the interaction between dead water and K~+ions during the energy-storage *** optimal structural alignme.t between layered MnO_(2) and graphene allows electrons to easily flow into the external *** charge compensation forces nume.ous low-solvent K~+ions to displace interlayer dead water,enhancing the *** unique reaction me.hanism is unprecedented in other aqueous battery studies.

Recent advances in electrocatalytic generation of indole-derived radical cations and their applications in organic synthesis

Indole-derived radical cations, open-shell reactive species, display distinctive dual reactivity due to the carbon-centered radical and more electrophilic carbocation, which frequently appear in a variety of single electron oxidation reactions for synthesizing structurally diverse functionalized indoles and indolines. Electrocatalysis is considered as a synthetically attractive and environme.tally friendly alternative for driving the single electron oxidation of indoles. Remarkable achieveme.ts in electrocatalytic indolederived radical cation-me.iated indole functionalization have been realized so far. This review comprehensively summarizes the recent progresses in the applications of electrocatalytic indole radical cations,including C(sp~2)–H functionalization, dearomative 2,3-difunctionalization, and ring-opening reaction, emphasizing the vital single electron oxidation steps of indoles, the substrates scope and limitations, and the reaction me.hanisms.
