Identifying the geographical origin and processing technology of Moyao(Myrrh) on the basis of near-infrared spectroscopy combined with chemometrics

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the quality of Moyao(Myrrh) in the identification of the geographical origin and processing of the products. METHODS: Raw Moyao(Myrrh) and two kinds of Moyao(Myrrh) processed with vinegar from three countries were identified using near-infrared(NIR) spectroscopy combined with chemometric techniques. Principal component analysis(PCA) was used to reduce the dimensionality of the data and visualize the clustering of samples from different categories. A classical chemometric algorithm(PLS-DA) and two machine learning algorithms [K-nearest neighbor(KNN) and support vector machine] were used to conduct a classification analysis of the near-infrared spectra of the Moyao(Myrrh) samples, and their discriminative performance was evaluated. RESULTS: Based on the accuracy, precision, recall rate, and F1 value in each model, the results showed that the classical chemometric algorithm and the machine learning algorithm obtained positive results. In all of the chemometric analyses, the NIR spectrum of Moyao(Myrrh) preprocessed by standard normal variation or Multivariate scattering correction combined with KNN achieved the highest accuracy in identifying the geographical origins, and the accuracy of identifying the processing technology established by the KNN method after first-order derivative pretreatment was the best. The best accuracy of geographical origin discrimination and processing technology discrimination were 0.9853 and 0.9706 respectively. CONCluSIONS: NIR spectroscopy combined with chemometric technology can be an important tool for tracking the origin and processing technology of Moyao(Myrrh) and can also provide a reference for evaluations of its quality and the clinical use.

A novel method for the green utilization of waste fried oil

Waste fried oil was studied to prepare three different types of detergent such as soap,liquid soap and soap powder via saponification process.The preparation conditions of soap base were optimized by orthogonal experiment.The specific preparation processes included waste fried oil treatment,orange peel extract preparation,saponification,demoulding and drying.Results showed that the optimal con-ditions for saponification were as follows:ratio of pure waste fried oil to coconut oil=6∶4,alkali liquor(NaOH)mass fraction 30%,saponification temperature 70℃,orange peel extract concentration 15%.The mature soap was then used to make liquid soap and soap powder by surfactant(sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate,coconut diethanol amide)addition,followed by grinding.The prepared detergent conforms to the production standard of strong decontamination ability,possesses stable performance,is gentle to skin and non-toxic.

The intimate host-anion interactions will regulate thermodynamics and kinetics in the self-assembly of cationic cages mimicking biological counterparts.Herein,we report construction and transformation of three Pd(Ⅱ)-based metal-organic cages(MOCs)depending on different anions.Stoichiometric conversions of the lantern-shaped MOC-34 into either octahedral MOC-35 or tricapped trigonal prism MOC-36 are induced by BF_(4)^(–)or NO_(3)^(–),respectively.MOC-36 is kinetically favored and can undergo quantitative conversion to the thermodynamically preferred MOC-35 upon heating,accelerated by excess BF_(4)^(–)to motivate dissociative dynamics of Pd-vertices and lower activation barrier of cage transformation.The guest encapsulation behaviors of MOC-35 and MOC-36 have also been tested.These results manifest a significance of host-anion dynamics beyond complementary anion template,shedding light on the understanding of intricate anion recognition in nature.

Core-shell heterostructure by coupling layered ReS_(2) with Co_(9)S_(8) nanocubes for boosted oxygen evolution reaction

The controllable morphology and composition of catalysts are crucial to improving the electrocatalytic activity of oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Herein,we construct a bimetallic heterostructure by sulfidation and hydrothermal methods,and the layered ReS_(2)is vertically aligned on Prussian blue-derived hollow Co_(9)S_(8)nanocubes(Co_(9)S_(8)@ReS_(2)).The core-shell structure of Co_(9)S_(8)@ReS_(2)can effectively prevent the restacking of layered ReS_(2),expose the abundant surface area and improve the utilization of electrocatalytic sites,resulting in fast electrolyte diffusion and charge transfer during OER.Due to the synergistic effect of the core-shell morphology and the formed bimetallic heterostructure,Co_(9)S_(8)@ReS_(2)exhibits excellent catalytic OER performance.At 10 mA/cm^(2),only 288 mV of overpotential is required with the Tafel slope of 73.3 mV/dec for Co_(9)S_(8)@ReS_(2),which are both lower than that of Co_(9)S_(8)and ReS_(2).Meanwhile,Co_(9)S_(8)@ReS_(2)exhibits high catalytic stability and low charge transfer resistance and the boosted active sites are confirmed by density functional theory.This work provides a rational design of the OER catalysts by constructing the bimetallic heterostructure.

Solution processability is a unique property of organic semiconductors. The compact and regular π-π stacking between molecules is paramount in the performance of organic optoelectronic devices. However, it is still a challenge to improve their stacking quality without sacrificing the solution-processability from the aspect of materials design. Here, delicately engineered additives are presented to promote the formation of ordered aggregation of conjugated molecules by regulating their nucleation and growth dynamics. Intriguingly, the long-chain BTP-eC9-4F molecules can realize ordered aggregation comparable to short-chain ones without sacrificing processability. The domain size of BTP-eC9-4F aggregation is enlarged from 24.2 to 32.2 nm in blend films.Thereby exciton diffusion and charge transport become faster, contributing to the suppression of recombination losses. As a result, a power conversion efficiency of 19.2% is achieved in D18:BTP-eC9-4F based organic photovoltaics. Our findings demonstrate a facile strategy to improve the packing quality of solution-processed organic semiconductors for high-efficiency photovoltaics and beyond photovoltaics.

Bionic manta underwater vehicles will play an essential role in future oceans and can perform tasks,such as long-duration reconnaissance and exploration,due to their efficient propulsion.The manta wings’deformation is evident during the swimming process.To improve the propulsion performance of the unmanned submersible,the study of the deformation into the bionic pectoral fin is necessary.In this research,we designed and fabricated a flexible bionic pectoral fin,which is based on the Fin Ray®effect with active and passive deformation(APD)capability.The APD fin was actively controlled by two servo motors and could be passively deformed to variable degrees.The APD fin was moved at 0.5 Hz beat frequency,and the propulsive performance was experimentally verified of the bionic pectoral fins equipped with different extents of deformation.These results showed that the pectoral fin with active–passive deformed capabilities could achieve similar natural biological deformation in the wingspan direction.The average thrust(T)under the optimal wingspan deformation is 61.5%higher than the traditional passive deformed pectoral fins.The obtained results shed light on the design and optimization of the bionic pectoral fins to improve the propulsive performance of unmanned underwater vehicles(UUV).

Calcitonin gene-related peptide inhibits neuronal apoptosis in heatstroke rats via PKA/p-CREB pathway

Purpose:The incidence of heatstroke(HS)is not particularly high;however,once it occurs,the consequences are serious.It is reported that calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP)is protective against brain injury in HS rats,but detailed molecular mechanisms need to be further investigated.In this study,we further explored whether CGRP inhibited neuronal apoptosis in HS rats via protein kinase A(PKA)/p-cAMP response element-binding protein(p-CREB)pathway.Methods:We established a HS rat model in a pre-warmed artificial climate chamber with a temperature of(35.5±0.5)℃and a relative humidity of 60%±5%.Heatstress was stopped once core body temperature reaches above 41℃.A total of 25 rats were randomly divided into 5 groups with 5 animals each:control group,HS group,HS+CGRP group,HS+CGRP antagonist(CGRP8-37)group,and HS+CGRP+PKA/p-CREB pathway blocker(H89)group.A bolus injection of CGRP was administered to each rat in HS+CGRP group,CGRP8-37(antagonist of CGRP)in HS+CGRP8-37 group,and CGRP with H89 in HS+CGRP+H89 group.Electroencephalograms were recorded and the serum concentration of S100B,neuron-specific enolase(NSE),neuron apoptosis,activated caspase-3 and CGRP expression,as well as pathological morphology of brain tissue were detected at 2 h,6 h,and 24 h after HSin vivo.The expression of PKA,p-CREB,and Bcl-2 in rat neurons were also detected at 2 h after HSin vitro.Exogenous CGRP,CGRP8-37,or H89 were used to determine whether CGRP plays a protective role in brain injury via PKA/p-CREB pathway.The unpairedt-test was used between the 2 samples,and the mean±SD was used for multiple samples.Double-tailedp<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:Electroencephalogram showed significant alteration ofθ(54.50±11.51vs.31.30±8.71,F=6.790,p=0.005)andαwave(16.60±3.21vs.35.40±11.28,F=4.549,p=0.020)in HS group compared to the control group 2 h after HS.The results of triphosphate gap terminal labeling(TUNEL)showed that the neuronal apoptosis of HS rats was increased in the cortex(9.67±3.16vs.1.80±1.10,F=11.002,p=0.001)and

Long-Term Performance and Microstructural Characterization of Dam Concrete in the Three Gorges Project

This study investigates the long-term performance of laboratory dam concrete in different curing environments over ten years and the microstructure of 17-year-old laboratory concrete and actual concrete cores drilled from the Three Gorges Dam.The mechanical properties of the laboratory dam concrete,whether cured in natural or standard environments,continued to improve over time.Furthermore,the laboratory dam concrete exhibited good resistance to diffusion and a refined microstructure after 17 years.However,curing and long-term exposure to the local natural environment reduced the frost resistance.Microstructural analyses of the laboratory concrete samples demonstrated that moderate-heat cement and fine fly ash(FA)particles were almost fully hydrated to form compact micro structures consisting of large quantities of homogeneous calcium(alumino)silicate hydrate(C-(A)-S-H)gels and a few crystals.No obvious interfacial transition zones were observed in the microstructure owing to the longterm pozzolanic reaction.This dense and homogenous microstructure was the crucial reason for the excellent long-term performance of the dam concrete.A high FA volume also played a significant role in the microstructural densification and performance growth of dam concrete at a later age.The concrete drilled from the dam surface exhibited a loose microstructure with higher microporosity,indicating that concrete directly exposed to the actual service environment suffered degradation caused by water and wind attacks.In this study,both macro-performance and microstructural analyses revealed that the application of moderate-heat cement and FA resulted in a dense and homogenous microstructure,which ensured the excellent long-term performance of concrete from the Three Gorges Dam after 17 years.Long-term exposure to an actual service environment may lead to microstructural degradation of the concrete surface.Therefore,the retained long-term dam concrete samples need to be further researched to better understand its microstructural evolution

Screened peptides from one-bead one-compound technique extend half-life of peptide drugs in circulation through binding to albumin

Peptide drugs are known for their high biological safety.However,compared with small molecule drugs,peptide drugs are easily oxidized and hydrolyzed as well as short in half-life.Herein,inspired by the long circulation of albumin in blood,we screened albumin binding peptides(ABPs)from a one-bead one-compound(OBOC)peptide library to increase the half-life of peptide drugs.Beads displaying random peptides were screened using fluorescent labeled human serum albumin.Fluorescent beads with specific binding to albumin were isolated for sequencing.The selected ABPs can effectively bind to albumin,thus possessing the long circulation of albumin.The dissociation constant(K_(D))of ABPs to albumin is up to 1×10^(-8)mol/L.Once one of ABPs(ABP2)was coupled to triptorelin,the circulation half-life of triptorelin in mice was significantly prolonged to 263.50 h much longer than that of triptorelin alone(179.07 h).In addition,the combination therapy using ABP-conjugated triptorelin and doxorubicin(DOX)can effectively inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells in mice.The OBOC screening strategy and resulting ABPs showed great potential for enhancing the delivery efficiency of peptide drugs.

Layered coordination polymer with two-dimensional covalent bismuth-organic networks:Semiconductor and lithium ion storage

Single crystals of a bismuth-based coordination polymer(CP)with carboxyl-thiol ligands,[Bi(C_(8)H_(2)O_(4)S_(2))(C2H8N)]n(Bi-DSBDC-DMA,DMBDC=2,5-disulfur-1,4-dicarboxylate,DMA=dimethylamine),have been successfully synthesized.X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that Bi-DSBDC-DMA possesses a layered structure,with two-dimensional(2D)Bi-DSBDC networks alternating with layers composed of dimethylamine ions.This material demonstrates semiconducting properties,featuring an optical bandgap of 2.2 eV and an electrical conductivity of 2×10^(-8) S/cm.Furthermore,electrodes based on this material exhibit a capacity of 250 mAh/g after 200 cycles for lithium-ion storage.
