This paper investigates the controllability of general linear discrete-time multi-agent systems with directed and weighted signed networks by using graphic and algebraic methods.The nondelay and delay cases are considered respectively.For the case of no time delay,the upper bound condition of the controllable subspace is given by using the equitable partition method,and the influence of coefficient matrix selection of individual dynamics is illustrated.For the case of single delay and multiple delays,the equitable partition method is extended to deal with time-delay systems,and some conclusions are obtained.In particular,some simplified algebraic criteria for controllability of systems with time delay are obtained by using augmented system method and traditional algebraic controllability criteria.

In this paper,the strong structural controllability of the leader-follower framework is discussed.Firstly,the authors analyze different edge augmentation methods to preserve the strong structural controllability of the path-bud topology.The following four cases are considered:Adding edges from the path to the bud;adding edges from the bud to the path;adding the reverse or forward edges to the path or bud;and adding both the reverse and forward edges to the path or bud.Then sufficient conditions are derived for the strong structural controllability of the new topologies which are generated by adding different edges.In addition,it is proved that rank[A B]=n is a necessary condition for the strong structural controllability.Finally,three examples are given to verify the effectiveness of the main results.

The paper is concerned with the stabilization of a class of coupled PDE-ODE systems with spatially varying coefficient,via state-feedback or output-feedback.The system is more general than that of the related literature due to the presence of the spatially varying coefficient which makes the problem more difficult to solve.By infinite-dimensional backstepping method,both state-feedback and output-feedback stabilizing controllers are explicitly constructed,which guarantee that the closed-loop system is exponentially stable in the sense of certain norm.It is worthwhile pointing out that,in the case of output-feedback,by appropriately choosing the state observer gains,the severe restriction on the ODE sub-system in the existing results is completely removed.A simulation example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper is concerned with the adaptive stabilization for ODE systems coupled with parabolic PDEs. The presence of the uncertainties/unknonws and the coupling between the subsystems makes the system under investigation essentially different from those of the existing literature,and hence induces more technique obstacles in control design. Motivated by the related literature, an invertible infinite-dimensional backstepping transformation with appropriate kernel functions is first introduced to change the original system into a new one, from which the control design becomes much convenient. It is worthwhile pointing out that, since the kernel equations for which the kernel functions satisfy are coupled rather than cascaded, the desirable kernel functions are more difficult to derive than those of the closely related literature. Then, by Lyapunov method and a dynamics compensated technique, an adaptive stabilizing controller is successfully constructed, which guarantees that all the closed-loop system states are bounded while the original system states converging to zero. Finally, a simulation example is provided to validate the proposed method.

This paper considers the problem of global stabilization by output feedback for a class of nonlinear systems with uncertain control coefficients and with unmeasured states dependent growth. Mainly due to the uncertain control coefficients, the problem has remained unsolved and its major difficulty stems from the inapplicability of the commonly used high-gain like observer. By introducing an appropriate state transformation and a thoroughly novel observer based on high-gain K-filters, the backstepping design approach is successfully proposed to the output-feedback controller for this class of systems. It is shown that the global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system can be guaranteed by the appropriate choice of the control parameters.

How Unique is ′China Model′: A Review of Theoretical Perspectives on China′s Urbanization in Anglophone Literature

As a major aspect of the ′China Model′, urbanization in China is being heatedly discussed in the Anglophone literature in the last two decades. By considering China′s urbanization as a ′testing ground′ of ′western′ theories, these studies are important for the understanding of China′s ongoing urban restructuring and exchanging knowledge with ′western′ insights. Based on a survey of existing studies, this paper identifies various endogenous and exogenous concepts and explanations of China′s urbanization. It is suggested that China′s urbanization is mainly driven by a combination of political decentralization and neoliberalization with various forms of social stratification and mobility. However, it is argued that the distinctness of the ′China Model′, which is usually used to support the legitimacy of studies of China′s urbanization, has led to many controversial arguments and diminished the due contributions of Chinese scholars in the knowledge production of China′s urbanization. To consolidate the legitimacy of studies on China′s urbanization and enhance the roles of Chinese scholars, we suggest future studies to pay more attentions to the fundamental theories with looser constraints and ′true questions′ on China′s urbanization.

In post-reform China, local governments, instead of the central state, have become major promoters of urbanization. Differing from the existing literature based on Western theories, this article argues that a localized perspective, ‘administrative urbanization', can provide a contextual explanation for the mechanism of urbanization in the reform era. The case study of Ordos indicates that new town construction, especially in the inland area, has become the main strategy for investment attraction and economic development. The local government has played a dominant role in this construction through a series of administrative measures, including avoidance of central state regulations, land leasing, high standard infrastructure construction, relocation policies and industrial attraction. This article also explores the issue of unsustainability in the new town, and identifies that underdeveloped industrialization, slow population agglomeration and real estate bubbles are primary threats to the sustainability of administrative urbanization.

This paper investigates adaptive state feedback stabilization for a class of feedforward nonlinear systems with zero-dynamics,unknown linear growth rate and control coefficient.For design convenience,the state transformation is first introduced and the new system is obtained.Then,the estimation law is constructed for the unknown control coefficient,and the state feedback controller is proposed with a gain updated on-hne.By appropriate choice of the estimation law for the control coefficient and the dynamic gain,the states of the closed-loop system are globally bounded,and the state of the original system converges to zero.Finally,a simulation example is given to illustrate the correctness of the theoretical results.

This paper deals with the global practical tracking problem by output-feedback for a class of uncertain cascade systems with zero-dynamics and unmeasured states dependent growth.The systems investigated are substantially different from the closely related works,and have zero-dynamics,unknown growth rate,and unknown time-varying control coefficients.This makes the problem much more difficult to solve.Motivated by the authors' recent works,this paper proposes a new adaptive control scheme to achieve the global practical tracking.It is shown that the designed controller guarantees that the state of the resulting closed-loop system is globally bounded and the tracking error converges to a prescribed arbitrarily small neighborhood of the origin after a finite time.This is achieved by combining the methods of universal control and dead zone with backstepping technique,and using the framework of performance analysis in the closely related works.A numerical example demonstrates the effectiveness of the theoretical results.
