Variation in Pore Space and Structure of Organic-rich Oilprone Shales from a Non-marine Basin:Constraints from Organic Matter and Minerals

Organic matter(OM)and minerals are major particle components of lacustrine *** influence of OM and minerals on pore space and structure in organic-rich oil-prone shales containing a large range of total organic carbon(TOC)contents is poorly *** this study,we investigated the variation in pore space and structure of low mature lacustrine shales in the Songliao Basin(NE China),based on a study of the mineralogy,petrography,geochemistry,and geophysical properties of *** pore types make markedly different contributions to the mineral surface area(MSA)and pore volume(PV)of the *** exists a negative correlation between MSA/PV and TOC in mesopores(r^(2)=0.75/0.65)and macropores(r^(2)=0.74/0.68),and a positive correlation in micropores(r^(2)=0.59/0.64),which are associated with the variation of mineral and TOC contents.A positive relationship between the throat/pore ratio and TOC(r^(2)=0.82)shows an increase in throat radius and decrease in pore radius with increasing TOC *** relationship is supported by the reduction in mean pore diameter(MPD)for large pores and increase in MPD for small *** variations are related to the decreased pores by quartz plus feldspar(Q+F)content,increased throats by clay minerals,an d enhanced pore-fill by *** propose that the variation of OM and minerals is a key control on the pore space and structure of low mature organic-rich oil-prone shales.

The Huadian Basin is an oil shale-bearing basin located in northeastern China. Thirteen oil shale layers deposited in this basin, and the characteristics of oil shale are different among these oil shale layers. Based on the core observation and microscope identification, using the organic and inor- ganic data from borehole HD3 and outcrops, the formation conditions of different grade oil shale have been evaluated. Based on measuring oil yield （OY in short） of an oil shale to determine its grade, this paper classifies the oil shale as high grade （OY〉10%）, medium grade （10%〉OY〉5%） and low grade （5%〉OY〉3.5%）. The high grade oil shale is mainly in brown or dark brown, and the bulk density ranges from 1.59 to 1.81 g/cm3. The results of X-ray diffraction indicate the content of carbonate min- erals is 28.0%. The HI （hydrogen index）-Tmax, HI-OI （oxygen index） and S2-TOC （total organic carbon） diagrams indicate the kerogen types are I and II1. The high grade oil shale generally formed in the rela- tively arid paleoclimate, deposited in the brackish water, dysoxic environment, when the bioprodctivity is extremely high, and the information is mainly from the inorganic parameters diagrams of chemical index of alteration （CIA）, Sr/Ba and V/（V＋Ni）. The medium grade oil shale mainly shows grey-black or black-brown color and the bulk density ranges from 1.87 to 2.08 g/cm^3. The average content of carbon- ate minerals is 16.4%, far less than high grade oil shale and the kerogen type is mainly IIm. The inor- ganic parameters diagrams reflect the medium grade oil shale generally formed in the less humid pa- leoclimate, deposited in the brackish water, dysoxic to anoxic environment, when the bioproductivity is medium. The color of low grade oil shale is major in grey-black or dark grey and the bulk density ranges from 2.00 to 2.15 g/cm^3. The Meihe Basin is an important Paleogene coal-bearing basin located in the Dunhua-Mishan Fault Zone,northeastern *** on a comprehensive study of well logs,seismic profiles,cores and rock geochemical properties,the coal distribution,paleoenvironment evolution within a sequence stratigraphic framework and the accumulation model to explain how coal seams developed in small fault basin were discussed in ***-third-order sequences were identified in the Paleogene Meihe Formation of Meihe Basin and the two coal-bearing sequences are the Lower Coalbearing Member of Sequence I and the Upper Coal-bearing Member of Sequence *** three types of system tracts are developed in both sequences,i.e.,the lowstand systems tract(LST),the transgressive systems tract(TST),and the highstand systems tract(HST).In LST of Sequence I,fan delta plain marsh is the main coal accumulating environment where coal seams are thin,discontinuous and therefore uneconomic for mining,and it is the same with all coal seams developed in Sequence *** in TST and HST of Sequence I,lake swamp is the main sedimentary environment where coal seams are thick,continuous,widely distributed,and thus economically attractive for *** the study area,the nice thick economical coal seams are usually developed in an ideal stable depositional environment where organic matter accommodation space grows at a balanced rate with peat,in other words,free of sediment input or channel *** key findings of this study could provide guidance for the exploration of coal seams in the Meihe Basin and other similar basins.

In this study,power spectral density and inverse analyses were performed to obtain the frequency characteristics and spatial distribution of temperature in the Qiongzhou Strait using reciprocal sound transmission data obtained in a coastal acoustic tomo-graphy experiment conducted in *** results reveal three dominant types of internal tides(diurnal,semidiurnal,and terdiurnal).Spectral analysis of the range-average temperature deviation along the northern and southern transmission paths shows that along the northern path,the energy of the diurnal internal tides was significantly larger than that of the semidiurnal *** semidiurnal internal tides,in contrast,were more pronounced along the southern path.A terdiurnal spectrum with an energy level equivalent to that of the semidiurnal internal tide was discernable for both the northern and southern *** three types of internal tides can also be recognized in the time variation of the zonal-average temperature *** diurnal internal tides were strengthened along the northern coast,implying their westward propagation and the existence of coastally trapped *** other two types of internal tides,which have smaller wavelengths than the diurnal internal tides,were less resolved over the entire tomographic domain due to the insufficient resolution of the *** data quality was verified to be satisfactory by error estimation.

For the large amount of waste heat wasted in daily life and industrial production,we propose a new type of flexible thermoelectric generators(F-TEGs)which can be used as a large area bionic skin to achieve energy harvesting of thermal *** reference to biological structures such as pinecone,succulent,and feathers,we have designed and fabricated a biomimetic flexible TEG that can be applied in a wide temperature range which has the highest temperature energy harvesting capability *** laminated free structure of the bionic F-TEG dramatically increases the efficiency and density of energy *** F-TEGs(single TEG only 101.2 mg in weight),without an additional heat sink,demonstrates the highest output voltage density of 286.1 mV/cm^(2)and the maximum power density is 66.5 mW/m^(2) at a temperature difference of nearly 1000℃.The flexible characteristics of F-TEGs make it possible to collect the diffused thermal energy by flexible attachment to the outer walls of high-temperature pipes and vessels of different diameters and *** work shows a new design and application concept for flexible thermal energy collectors,which fills the gap of flexible energy harvesting in high-temperature environment.

Effect of growth interruption time on the quality of InAs/GaSb type-Ⅱ superlattice grown by molecular beam epitaxy

We systematically investigate the influence of growth interruption time on the properties of In As/Ga Sb type-II superlattices(T2SLs) epitaxial materials grown by molecular beam epitaxy(MBE). X-ray diffraction(XRD) and atomic force microscope(AFM) are used to characterize the material quality and morphology. The full width at half maximum(FWHM) of the XRD 0th satellite peaks ranges from 32″ to 41″, and the root mean square(RMS) roughness on a 5 μm×5 μm scan area is 0.2 nm. Photoluminescence(PL) test is used to reveal the influence of the growth interruption time on the optical property. Grazing incidence X-ray reflectivity(GIXRR) measurements are performed to analyze the roughness of the interface. The interface roughness(0.24 nm) is optimal when the interruption time is 0.5 s. The crystal quality of T2SLs can be optimized with appropriate interruption time by MBE, which is a guide for the material epitaxy of high performance T2SL infrared detector.

Flexible temperature sensors have been extensively investigated due to their prospect of wide application in various flexible electronic ***,most of the current flexible temperature sensors only work well in a narrow temperature range,with their application at high or low temperatures still being a big *** work proposes a flexible thermocouple temperature sensor based on aerogel blanket substrate,the temperature-sensitive layer of which uses the screen-printing technology to prepare indium oxide and indium tin *** has good temperature sensitivity,with the test sensitivity reaching 226.7μV℃^(−1).Most importantly,it can work in a wide temperature range,from extremely low temperatures down to liquid nitrogen temperature to high temperatures up to 1200℃,which is difficult to be achieved by other existing flexible temperature *** temperature sensor has huge application potential in biomedicine,aerospace and other fields.

The origin of the Ryukyu Current(RC)and the formation of its subsurface velocity core were investigated using a 23-year(1993–2015)global Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model(HYCOM)*** volume transport of the RC comes from the Kuroshio eastward branch(KEB)east of Taiwan and part of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre(p-NPSG).From the surface to 2000m depth,the KEB(p-NPSG)transport contributes 41.5%(58.5%)to the mean total RC *** KEB originally forms the subsurface velocity core of the RC east of Taiwan due to blockage of the subsurface Kuroshio by the Ilan Ridge(sill depth:700 m).Above 700m,the Kuroshio can enter the East China Sea(ECS)over the Ilan Ridge,meanwhile,the blocked Kuroshio below 700m turns to the right and flows along the Ryukyu *** the RC flowing northeastward,the p-NPSG contribution strengthens the subsurface maximum structure of the RC owing to the blockage of the Ryukyu *** the surface layer,the p-NPSG cannot form a stable northeastward current due to frequent disturbance by mesoscale eddies and water exchange through the gaps(with net volume transport into ECS)between the Ryukyu Islands.
