Climatic conditions have important influences on human life and the sustainable development of economies and societies. Climate varies in space and time. People have always lived with climate diversity, and the two influence each other. The degree of mutual influence differs at different spatial and temporal scales. Since the industrial revolution, the human effect on climate has gradually increased, and expanded from local to global scale. To allow people to live in harmony with nature and prevent disaster risks, the International Human Dimensions Program on Global Environmental Change(IHDP) announced the implementation of a scientific plan aimed at discussing risk governance, especially with respect to large-scale disaster risks, under global environmental change conditions(IHDP—Integrated Risk Governance Project, 2009–2019). As the initiator of this scientific plan, the authors propose a strategic development framework for living with global climate diversity considering a series of large-scale disasters in China and around the world in recent years and relevant experiences and lessons, and offer suggestions for the global mechanism of dealing with climate change risks.

Temperature and relative humidity are important parameters that can affect the storage of food in a zero energy cool chamber(ZECC).The distributions of average temperature and relative humidity are influenced by factors such as chamber size,water temperature,load weight and filler *** this research,thermal environment analysis using numerical simulation of biological respiration was conducted for tomatoes stored in a *** ZECC was composed of inner and outer brick walls,filler(a mixture of sand and zeolite),water between the walls and a shading *** results obtained from the numerical model were compared by setting different values for each *** following conclusions are drawn after comparison and analysis of results:(1)the distributions of average temperature and relative humidity are strongly related to the thickness of the filler–a thicker filler causes a lower temperature;(2)the water temperature in the filler exerts little influence on the average temperature and relative humidity;and(3)the lowest temperature and the highest relative humidity can be achieved with a chamber size of 0.6 m and a load weight of 30 *** addition,to validate the results of the numerical model,the simulation results are compared with experimental data,which show good *** is confirmed that numerical simulation can be satisfactorily applied to predict the distribution of environmental parameters such as temperature and relative humidity in a cool chamber.

Most of the conventional chemotherapeutic agents used for cancer chemotherapy suffer from multidrug resistance of tumor cells and poor antitumor *** on physiological differences between the normal tissue and the tumor tissue,one effective approach to improve the efficacy of cancer chemotherapy is to develop pH-sensitive polymeric micellar delivery *** copolymers with reversible protonationedeprotonation core units or acid-liable bonds between the therapeutic agents and the micelle-forming copolymers can be used to form pH-sensitive polymeric micelles for extracellular and intracellular drug smart *** systems can be triggered to release drug in response to the slightly acidic extracellular fluids of tumor tissue after accumulation in tumor tissues via the enhanced permeability and retention effect,or they can be triggered to release drug in endosomes or lysosomes by pH-controlled micelle hydrolysis or dissociation after uptake by cells via the endocytic *** pH-sensitive micelles have been proved the specific tumor cell targeting,enhanced cellular internalization,rapid drug release,and multidrug resistance *** multifunctional polymeric micelles combining extracellular pH-sensitivity with receptor-mediated active targeting strategies are of great interest for enhanced tumor *** micelles with receptor-mediated and intracellular pH targeting functions are internalized via receptor-mediated endocytosis followed by endosomal-pH triggered drug release inside the cells,which reverses multidrug *** pH sensitivity strategy of the polymeric micelles facilitates the specific drug delivery with reduced systemic side effects and improved chemotherapeutical efficacy,and is a novel promising platform for tumor-targeting drug delivery.

In recent years,various particulate materials have played important roles in medical ***,nano-and micron-sized particles of the same material could exhibit distinct properties due to different particle *** finding provided a simple and effective way to improve the biological applications of particulate ***,as a highly promising member,the effect of the particle size change of the magnesium metal organic framework-74(Mg-MOF74)was well worth *** we firsth assessed the in vitro and in vivo toxicity of micron/nanoscale Mg-MOF74(m-Mg-MOF74/n-Mg-MOF74)in *** in vitro study revealed that compared to micron-sized subjects,n-Mg-MOF74 provided a wider range of safe ***,both micron/nanoscale Mg-MOF74 showed good biocompatibility and allowed all the rats under the treatment to survive through the expected experimental periods,with n-Mg-MOF74 still showing lower *** advantages of nanoscale Mg-MOF74might benefit from its sustainable and balanced release of Ma^2+both inside and outside the *** on the biosafety evaluation,advanced bio-functional assessments of m/n-Mg-MOF74 including early osteogenesis and angiogenesis were ***,the suitable dose groups of n-Mg-MOF74 achieved optimal early osteogenic promotion and angiogenic stimulation ***,our combined data delineated the toxicity and biological behaviors of Ma-MOF74 of different scales,and sugqested nanoscale Mg-MOF74 as a better choice for future *** result revealed that particle size reductior might be a viable strategy to improve and expand medical applications of MOFs or other particulate materials.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy(DCM)is a metabolic disease and a leading cause of heart failure among people with *** spectrometry imaging(MSI)is a versatile technique capable of combining the molecular specificity of mass spectrometry(MS)with the spatial information of *** this study,we used MSI to visualize metabolites in the rat heart with high spatial resolution and *** optimized the air flow-assisted desorption electrospray ionization(AFADESI)-MSI platform to detect a wide range of metabolites,and then used matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization(MALDI)-MSI for increasing metabolic coverage and improving localization ***-MSI detected 214 and 149 metabolites in positive and negative analyses of rat heart sections,respectively,while MALDI-MSI detected 61 metabolites in negative *** study revealed the heterogenous metabolic profile of the heart in a DCM model,with over 105 region-specific changes in the levels of a wide range of metabolite classes,including carbohydrates,amino acids,nucleotides,and their derivatives,fatty acids,glycerol phospholipids,carnitines,and metal *** repeated oral administration of ferulic acid during 20 weeks significantly improved most of the metabolic disorders in the DCM *** findings provide novel insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying DCM and the potential of ferulic acid as a therapeutic agent for treating this condition.

Fibers reinforced composite hydrogels with improved lubrication and load-bearing capacity

Hydrogels as one kind of soft materials with a typical three-dimensional(3D)hydrophilic network have been getting great attention in the field of ***,traditional hydrogels commonly show poor tribology performance under high-load conditions because of their poor mechanical strength and ***,pure chemical-crosslinking hydrogels mixed with different types of the micron-scale fibers can meet the requirements of strength and toughness for biolubrication materials,meanwhile the corresponding tribology performance improves *** a typical case,three kinds of reinforcement matrix including needle-punched fibers,alginate fibers,and cottons are separately combined with Poly(n-vinyl pyrrolidone)-poly 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate(PVP-PHEMA)hydrogels to prepare fibers reinforced composite *** experimental results show that the mechanical properties of fibers reinforced composite hydrogels improve greatly comparable with pure PVP-PHEMA *** three kinds of fibers reinforced composite hydrogel,the as-prepared composite hydrogels reinforced with needle-punched fibers possess the best strength,modulus,and anti-tearing *** tests indicate that the fibers reinforced composite hydrogels demonstrate stable water-lubrication performance comparable with pure PVP-PHEMA ***,the hydrogel-spunlace fiber samples show the best load-bearing and anti-wear *** improved tribology performance of the composite hydrogels is highly related to mechanical property and the interaction between the fibers and hydrogel ***,spunlace fibers reinforced hydrogel materials with high load-bearing and low friction properties are expected to be used as novel biomimetic lubrication materials.

A composite material comprising a carbon layer and spherical carbon/carbon cloth(C-SC/CC)was fabricated using a hydrothermal-pyrolysis method,employing carbon cloth as the substrate and glucose as the carbon *** C-SC/CC electrode was evaluated as an electrocatalytic electrode for hydrogen production by electrolysis of Bunsen reaction *** electrode prepared with 4 g of glucose and annealed at 800°C showed excellent electrocatalytic *** requires only a potential of 185 mV(***)to achieve a current density of 10 mA/***,the electrode demonstrated good stability with a 6%loss in current density after 1000 cycles of scanning from 0.2 V to 1.2 *** results indicate the potential of the SC/CC electrode as an efficient and durable electrocatalyst for the electrolysis of H2SO4 and HI.

Naringenin(NAR)is recognized for its anti-inflammatory ***,the clinical application of NAR is limited by low bioavailability,which is attributed to its poor aqueous *** this study,we aimed to improve the therapeutic efficacy of NAR by formulating it into nanocrystals(NCs)via wet *** obtained NARNCs exhibited superior dissolution behaviors,increased cellular uptake,and enhanced transcellular diffusion relative to those of bulk *** administration of NARNCs also significantly improved bioavailability in *** addition,the NARNCs effectively improved rheumatoid arthritis treatment in collagen-induced arthritic rats by reducing inflammatory cell infiltration and synovial *** results indicate that NARNCs provides a promising strategy for rheumatoid arthritis treatment.
