Nanopore design of sulfur doped hollow carbon nanospheres for superior potassium-ion battery anodes

Sulfur doped carbonaceous materials are promising anodes for potassium-ion batteries because of their ability to bridge active sites and induce C/S electron coupling,resulting in increased ion storage capacitance However,the large potassium ions could cause significant volume expansion and structure collapse during operation in sulfur doped carbonaceous anodes,which lead to rapidly capacity sacrifice during long-term *** design for anchoring sulfur atom in carbon skeleton is a novel way to alleviate the structure collapse and maintain the cycling ***,this study developed a controlled nanopore and sulfur doped carbon sphere structure(S-NPHCSs).In potassium-ion batteries S-NPHCSs anode demonstrated exceptional performance with a high reversible capacity of 247 mAh·g^(–1)after 50 cycles at 0.2 A·g^(–1)and delivered a long cycle stability of 600 cycles at a high current density of 1.0 A·g^(–1).Interconnected nanopores and doped sulfur structure not only expand the accumulation space and offer ample active sites for diffusion and adsorption of potassium ions,but also build stable channels through nanopore structure to ensure the cyclic *** finding provides a fundamental theory for designing nanopore structures and introducing sulfur doped carbonaceous materials to enhance capacitive potassium storage and long cycle stability.

Use of two-stage dough mixing process in improving water distribution of dough and qualities of bread made from wheat–potato flour

The two-stage dough mixing process was innovated to improve the qualities of bread made from potato flour(PF) and wheat flour at a ratio of 1:1(w/w). The final dough was first prepared from wheat flour before being added with PF. The effects of the method on enhancing the dough qualities were verified, and the distribution of water in gluten-gelatinized starch matrix of the doughs was investigated. We observed that the bread qualities were improved, as reflected by the increase of specific volume from 2.26 to 2.96 m L g^–1 and the decrease of crumb hardness from 417.93 to 255.57 g. The results from rheofermentometric measurements showed that the dough mixed using the developed mixing method had higher maximum dough height value, time of dough porosity appearance, and gas retention coefficient, as well as enhanced gluten matrix formation compared to that mixed by the traditional mixing method. The results from low-field nuclear magnetic resonance confirmed that the competitive water absorption between gluten and gelatinized starch could restrict the formation of gluten network in the dough mixed using the traditional mixing process. Using the novel mixing method, gluten could be sufficiently hydrated in stage 1, which could then weaken the competitive water absorption caused by gelatinized starch in stage 2;this could also be indicated by the greater mobility of proton in PF and better development of gluten network during mixing.

Effect of Y-27632 on the cultured retinal neurocytes of rats

AIM:To investigate the effect of Y-27632 on the survival and neurite outgrowth of the cultured retinal neurocytes. METHODS:After the postnatal day 2-3, Sprague-Dawley retinal neurocytes were cultured for 48 hours, the culture media was replaced with serum-free media (control group) and serum-free media contained 30μmol/L Y-27632 (Y-27632 group), and the cells were continually cultured another 48 hours. The cultured retinal neurocytes were identified with anti-neuron specific enolase (NSE) immunocytochemistry. The survival state of those cells was estimated by MTT assay, and the neurite outgrowth of those cells was evaluated by the computerized image-analysis system. RESULTS:Compared with the control group, the absorbance values of cells survival in Y -27632 group increased 12.90% and 33.33% respectively after 72 and 96 hours culture. Y-27632 had no significant effect on the diameter of cultured retinal neurocytes. Compared with the control group, Y-27632 induced a stable improvement of neurite outgrowth of retinal neurocytes after 72 and 96 hours culture (P =0.001). CONCLUSION:Y-27632 could promote the survival and neurite outgrowth of the early postnatal cultured retinal neurocytes.

Lithium metal has been regarded as one of the most promising anode materials for high-energy-density batteries due to its extremely high theoretical gravimetric capacity of 3860 mAh·g^-1 along with its low electrochemical potential of-3.04 ***,uncontrollable Li dendrite growth and repetitive destruction/formation of the solid electrolyte interphase layer lead to poor safety and low Coulombic efficiencies(CEs)for long-term utilization,which largely restricts the practical applications of lithium metal *** this review,we comprehensively summarized important progresses achieved to date in suppressing Li dendrite *** for protection of Li metal anodes include designing porous structured hosts,fabricating artificial solid electrolyte interface(SEI)layers,introducing electrolyte additives,using solid-state electrolytes and applying external *** protection of Li metal anodes can be achieved by regulating the stripping and deposition behaviours of Li ***,the challenges remaining for lithium metal battery systems and future perspectives for Li metal anodes in practical applications are outlined,which are expected to shed light on future research in this field.

Critical velocities for local scour around twin piers in tandem

Experiments of the local scour around twin piers are carried out under steady clear-water conditions, including 95 tests to observe the influence of the pier spacing and the flow velocity on the local scour characteristics of the twin piers. It is shown that the start of the transition region is synchronous with the sediment transport from the upstream scour hole to the downstream one. The equations for the critical velocities are derived to quantify the velocity range of each of four different scour regions. Finally, a prediction formula of the downstream pier scour depth in the radical-deviation region is established.

Effect of Al22Si/ZL102 bimetal interface fabricated by extrusion at neareutectic temperature

The Al22Si/ZL102 bimetal was designed and prepared by extrusion at near-eutectic *** properties and fracture behaviors of different surface treatments between oxide film and zinc coating were compared between the Al22 Si and ZL102 *** average bonding strength of bimetal with intermittent oxide film interface was about 89.3MPa,which is higher than that of the bimetal fabricated by zinc coating method（about 76.3MPa）.During the process of extrusion,the oxidation film was extruded to crush and the metal was extruded through the micro-cracks of the oxidation film,then the two surfaces were joined ***,the results showed that extrusion at near-eutectic temperature is favorable for achieving a high-quality metallurgical bonded interface.

Construction of an efficient genomic editing system with CRISPR/Cas9 in the vector mosquito Aedes albopictus

Aedes (Stegomyia) albopictus, also known as the Asian tiger mosquito, is a mosquito which originated in Asia. In recent years, it has become increasingly rampant throughout the world. This mosquito can transmit several arboviruses, including dengue, Zika and chikungunya viruses, and is considered a public health threat. Despite the urgent need of genome engineering to analyze specific gene functions, progress in genetical manipulation of Ae. albopictus has been slow due to a lack of efficient methods and genetic markers. In the present study, we established targeted disruptions in two genes, kynurenine hydroxylase (kh) and dopachrome conversion enzyme (yellow), to analyze the feasibility of generating visible phenotypes with genome editing by the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/ CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) system in Ae. albopictus. Following Cas9 single guide RNA ribonucleoprotein injection into the posterior end of pre-blastoderm embryos, 30%-50% of fertile survivors produced alleles that failed to complement existing kh and yellow mutations. Complete eye and body pigmentation defects were readily observed in GI pupae and adults, indicating successful generation of highly heritable mutations. We conclude that the CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing system can be used mAe. albopictus and that it can be adopted as an efficient tool for genome-scale analysis and biological study.

OBJECTIVES Moderate to vigorous physical activity is recommended to prevent hypertension according to the current ***,the degree to which the total physical activity(TPA)and its changes benefit normotensives and hypertensives is *** aimed to examine the effects of TPA and its changes on the incidence,progression,and remission of hypertension in the large-scale prospective *** A total of 73,077 participants(55,101 normotensives and 17,976 hypertensives)were eligible for TPA *** a mean follow-up of 7.16 years(394,038 person-years),12,211 hypertension cases were *** was estimated as metabolic equivalents and categorized into *** proportional hazards regression and multivariable logistic regression were used to estimate associations of TPA and changes in TPA with incident hypertension and progression/remission of *** Compared with the lowest quartile of TPA,normotensives at the third and the highest quartile had a decreased risk of incident hypertension,with hazard ratios(HRs)of 0.86[95%confidence interval(CI):0.81−0.91]and 0.81(95%CI:0.77−0.86),*** at the highest quartile of TPA demonstrated a decreased risk of progression of hypertension[odds ratio(OR)=0.87,95%CI:0.79−0.95],and an increased probability of hypertension remission(OR=1.17,95%CI:1.05−1.29).Moreover,getting active from a sedentary lifestyle during the follow-up period could reduce 25%(HR=0.75,95%CI:0.58−0.96)risk of incident hypertension,whereas those becoming sedentary did not achieve benefit from initially being *** Our findings indicated that increasing and maintaining TPA levels could benefit normotensives,whereas higher TPA levels were needed to effectively control progression and improve remission of *** activity played undoubtedly an essential role in both primary and secondary prevention of hypertension.
