Cardiovascular diseases cause significant morbidity and mortality worldwide,incurring a major public health burden.Gastrodia elata Blume is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine that has been widely used to treat central nervous system and cardiovascular diseases.Gastrodin,as the major active component in Gastrodia elata Blume,can confer protection against cardiovascular diseases.In this review,we summarize the anti-inflammatory actions,anti-cardiac hypertrophy,anti-hypertension,anti-atherosclerosis,and angiogenic effects of gastrodin,as well as its protective effects on vascular cells and against myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.The medical potential of gastrodin in diabetes-related cardiovascular diseases is also discussed.

In this paper,we investigate the long-time near-conservations of energy and kinetic energy by the widely used exponential integrators to highly oscillatory conservative systems.The modulated Fourier expansions of two kinds of exponential integrators have been constructed and the long-time numerical conservations of energy and kinetic energy are obtained by deriving two almost-invariants of the expansions.Practical examples of the methods are given and the theoretical results are confirmed and demonstrated by a numerical experiment.

As a common practice in agricultural system,straw return has been reported to release a large number of trace gases and attractedmuch attention.However,the role of straw return in toluene emission remains poorly understood.In this study we measured the emissions of toluene as well as other 50 volatile organic compounds(VOCs)from wheat straw return for 66 days under flooded and non-flooded conditions,respectively.The results showed that substantial toluene was released from the returned wheat straw particularly under flooded condition,and primarily derived from the secondary product.Toluene emissions from the returned wheat straw were 36.8 and 8.45 mg C/kg,sharing 28.0%and 8.6%of total VOCs released,and over 90% of toluene emissions occurred between days 24-56 and 0-17 under flooded and non-flooded conditions,respectively.The emission rates of toluene were relatively high but decreased sharply at the beginning 2 days,and then was steady until 24 days under the two moisture conditions.After the initial decrease these rose again to form one“peak emission window”between days 24-56 under flooded condition,while these were still very low and steady until the end under non-flooded condition.The toluene emission rates significantly positively correlated with microbial biomass C under flooded condition,but negatively associated with bacteria and fungus number,microbial biomass C,and CO_(2) flux under non-flooded condition,suggesting that microorganism might play an important role in toluene emissions from wheat straw return.A rough estimate indicated that straw return might be important for biogenic toluene.

Carboxylesterases (CarEs) belong to a super family of multifunctional enzymes associated with the degradation of endogenous and exogenous compounds. Many insect CarEs are known to play important roles in catalyzing the hydrolysis of organophosphates (OPs), carbamates, and synthetic pyrethroids (SPs). The elevation of esterase activity through gene amplification and overexpression of estα2 and estβ2 genes contributes to the development of resistance to OP insecticides in the mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus. Three additional CarE genes are upregulated in permethrin-resistant Cx. quinquefasciatus according to an RNA-seq analysis, but their function remains unknown. In this study, we, for the first time, characterized the function of these three novel genes using in vitro protein expression, an insecticide metabolism study and molecular docking analysis. All three CarE genes were significantly overexpressed in resistant mosquito larvae, but not adults, compared to susceptible strain. No gene copy differences in these three genes were found in the mosquitoes tested. In vitro high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) revealed that CPIJ018231, CPIJ018232, and CPIJ018233 metabolized 30.4% ± 2.9%, 34.7% ± 6.8%, and 23.2% ± 2.2% of the permethrin, respectively. No mutations in resistant strains might significantly affect their CarE hydrolysis ability. A docking analysis further confirmed that these three CarEs from resistant strain all potentially metabolize permethrin. Taken together, these three carboxylesterase genes could play important roles in the development of permethrin resistance in Cx. quinquefasciatus larvae through transcriptional overexpression, metabolism, and detoxification.

Blended-Wing-Body(BWB)aircraft have a relatively short fuselage and no horizontal tail,and they usually adopt podded engines and a V tail instead of a vertical tail.Generally,BWB aircraft have decreased longitudinal and directional static stability and damping.In this paper,the three-axis static and dynamic stability characteristics of an example BWB aircraft with podded engines are studied.According to the differences in flight characteristics of BWB aircraft and conventional aircraft,the different airworthiness requirements for BWB aircraft are analyzed:first,based on current airworthiness regulations and transport aircraft flying quality specification,the relaxation requirement of longitudinal static stability for BWB aircraft is studied;second,the influences of podded engines on longitudinal trim,attitude and trajectory responses and maximum directional control power requirement of BWB aircraft are analyzed;third,the changes in the proportional relationships between the takeoff characteristic speeds of the example BWB aircraft are analyzed.In view of these variations in directional control power requirement and relationships between takeoff characteristic speeds,new recommendations for airworthiness evaluation are proposed for BWB aircraft.The conclusions of this paper are helpful references for configuration design,flight control law design and airworthiness evaluation of BWB aircraft.

Spudcan extraction leaves a footprint and disturbed soil surrounding the footprint,which introduces uncertainty and complexity in the spudcan−footprint interaction during spudcan reinstallation.This paper reports large deformation from finite element results of spudcan reinstallation near the footprint considering the effect of soil disturbance.Three stages are proposed based on the failure mechanisms of a spudcan reinstalled in disturbed soil and undisturbed soil.Besides,the effects of soil disturbance on the position of the maximum horizontal force and moment are discussed.It could be found that the critical offset distance in the disturbed case is larger than that in the undisturbed case.In addition,the maximum horizontal force and moment occur at different depths in the disturbed case and undisturbed case.A critical area is proposed based on the analyses,which could be useful for determining the position of the maximum horizontal force and moment in practical design.

A Machine Learning Study of Polymer-Solvent Interactions

Polymer-solvent interaction is a fundamentally important concept routinely described by the Flory-Huggins interaction(χ),Hildebrand solubility(Δδ)and the relative energy difference(RED)determined from Hansen solubility in experimental,theoretical and simulation studies.Here we performed a machine learning study based on a comprehensive and representative dataset covering the interaction pairs from 81polymers and 1221 solvents.The regression models provide the coefficients of determination in the range of 0.86-0.94 and the classification models deliver the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUCs)better than 0.93.These models were integrated into a newly developed software polySML-PSI.Important features including Log P,molar volume and dipole are identified,and their non-linear,nonmonotonic contributions to polymer-solvent interactions are presented.The widely known“like-dissolve-like”rule and two broadly used empirical equations to estimateχas a function of temperature or Hansen solubility are also evaluated,and the polymer-specified constants are presented.This study provides a quantitative reference and a tool to understand and utilize the concept of polymer-solvent interactions.

●AIM:To analyze one year clinical outcomes and subjective rating of hybrid bi-aspheric multifocal central presbyLASIK with micro-monovision for correction of presbyopia and myopic astigmatism.●METHODS:Seventy-four eyes of 37 patients consecutively treated with presbyLASIK were assessed.The mean age of the patients was 43.8±3.0 y with a mean spherical equivalent refraction of-5.21±1.87 diopters(D)and mean astigmatism of-0.82±0.64 D.Visual acuity,manifest refraction,contrast sensitivity,aberrometry and patients’subjective rating were evaluated pre-and postoperatively.●RESULTS:At 1 y postoperatively(68 eyes of 34 patients),the mean spherical equivalent(SE)refraction in distance eyes was 0.06±0.05 D,whereas the achieved SE in near eyes was-0.83±0.05 D.Ninety-nine percent of eyes were within±0.50 D of target correction of SE.The binocular mean uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA)was 0.00±0.18 logMAR(20/20).Sixty-four percent of patients achieved 0.0 logMAR(20/20)or better of UDVA and 0.1 logRAD or better of UNVA as well.There was a binocularly loss of one line CDVA after surgery for only one patient(3%,1/34)and no patient lost 2 lines.The changes in binocular contrast sensitivity(CS)in all test conditions were not significant at any frequency after surgery.The changes of entire eye total higher order aberrations(tHOA)and spherical aberrations(SA)significantly higher in near eyes than in distance eyes.The overall satisfaction score for surgery was 93±8.●CONCLUSION:The hybrid bi-aspheric multifocal central presby LASIK with micro-monovision appears to be an efficacious option for myopic presbyopes.One year postoperative outcomes in a relatively young presbyopia population indicate improvements in both far and near vision with high satisfaction.

In this work,we study the domain wall motion in ferrimagnet driven by a circularly polarized magnetic field using the collective coordinate theory and atomistic micromagnetic simulations,and we pay particular attention to the effect of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction(DMI).Similar to the case of antiferromagnetic domain wall,ferrimagnetic wall moves at a speed which is linearly dependent on the DMI magnitude.In addition,it is revealed that the DMI plays a role in modulating the domain wall dynamics similar to that of the net spin density,which suggests another internal parameter for controlling domain wall in ferrimagnets.Moreover,the results show that the domain wall dynamics in ferrimagnets is much faster than that in ferromagnets,which confirms again the great potential of ferrimagnets in future spintronic applications.
