Vertically grown MoS_(2)nanosheets on graphene with defect-rich structure for efficient sodium storage

The synthesis of a perpendicular growth structure of MoS_(2)nanosheets on graphene for efficient sodium storage is challenging yet ideal due to the benefits of open ion diffusion channels and high electronic conductivity.In this study,we have successfully fabricated a novel structure of vertical MoS_(2)nanosheets on graphene,with ZnS nanoparticles serving as bonding points(MoS_(2)/ZnS/G),through a facile hydrothermal method.During the synthesis process,Zn^(2+)not only acts as a landing site for the vertical growth of MoS_(2)nanosheets but also triggers the formation of a defect-rich structure in the final samples.This unique architecture of MoS_(2)/ZnS/G effectively combines the advantages of a vertically aligned geometry and a defectrich structure for energy storage.The resulting structure displays shortened transport paths for electrons/ions,enhanced conductivity,improved structural integrity,and an increased number of active sites for promising electrochemical performance.As expected,when used as anode for sodium-ion batteries,the as-synthesize d MoS_(2)/ZnS/G exhibits excellent rate capability(high capacity of 298 mAh·g^(-1)at 5 A·g^(-1))and good cycling stability(a capacity decay of 0.056%per cycle after 500 cycles at 1 A·g^(-1)).According to the kinetic investigations,the electrochemical process of the MoS_(2)/ZnS/G sample is primarily governe d by a pseudocapacitive behavior,which enhances the charge/discharge kinetics and allows the MoS_(2)/ZnS/G structure to remain intact during cycling.

Wide‑field swept‑source OCT angiography of the periarterial capillary‑free zone before and after anti‑VEGF therapy for branch retinal vein occlusion

Background:The aim of the study was to investigate the changes in the periarterial capillary-free zone(paCFZ)after anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)therapy in patients with branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO)by widefield swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography(SS-OCTA)and assess their associations with clinical outcomes.Methods:In this retrospective observational study of 54 treatment-naive BRVO patients with macular edema,we reviewed the findings of 12×12 mm^(2)SS-OCTA at baseline,3,6,and 12 months after intravitreal ranibizumab injections.The paCFZ and major retinal artery areas were measured on SS-OCTA images.The paCFZ area to artery area(P/A)ratio was calculated.Results:The paCFZ areas and P/A ratios of first-and second-order arteries were significantly greater in BRVO eyes than in contralateral eyes(all P<0.01),but there were no differences in the first-and second-order artery areas(P=0.20 and 0.25,respectively).The paCFZ areas and P/A ratios decreased significantly at 3,6,and 12 months after anti-VEGF therapy(all P<0.01).The baseline P/A ratio was significantly correlated with the baseline best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),central retinal thickness,and their improvements at 3,6,and 12 months(all P<0.05).Baseline BCVA and P/A ratios of first-and second-order arteries were independently associated with the final BCVA in multivariate linear regression.Conclusions:Wide-field SS-OCTA shows that anti-VEGF therapy can lead to a significant improvement in the paCFZ parameters in BRVO.Smaller baseline P/A ratios on SS-OCTA tend to predict better visual outcomes at 12 months after anti-VEGF therapy.

Verteporfin fluorescence in antineoplastic-treated pancreatic cancer cells found concentrated in mitochondria

BACKGROUND Traditional treatments for pancreatic cancer(PC)are inadequate.Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is non-invasive,and proven safe to kill cancer cells,including PC.However,the mitochondrial concentration of the photosensitizer,such as verteporfin,is key.AIM To investigate the distribution of fluorescence of verteporfin in PC cells treated with antitumor drugs,post-PDT.METHODS Workable survival rates of PC cells(AsPC-1,BxPC-3)were determined with chemotherapy[doxorubicin(DOX)and gemcitabine(GEM)]and non-chemotherapy[sirolimus(SRL)and cetuximab(CTX)]drugs in vitro,with or without verteporfin,as measured via MTT,flow cytometry,and laser confocal microscopy.Reduced cell proliferation was associated with GEM that was more enduring compared with DOX.Confocal laser microscopy allowed observation of GEM-and verteporfin-treated PC cells co-stained with 4’,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole and MitoTracker Green to differentiate living and dead cells and subcellular localization of verteporfin,respectively.RESULTS Cell survival significantly dropped upon exposure to either chemotherapy drug,but not to SRL or CTX.Both cell lines responded similarly to GEM.The intensity of fluorescence was associated with the concentration of verteporfin.Additional experiments using GEM showed that survival rates of the PC cells treated with 10μmol/L verteporfin(but not less)were significantly lower relative to nil verte-porfin.Living and dead stained cells treated with GEM were distinguishable.After GEM treatment,verteporfin was observed primarily in the mitochondria.CONCLUSION Verteporfin was observed in living cells.In GEM-treated human PC cells,verteporfin was particularly prevalent in the mitochondria.This study supports further study of PDT for the treatment of PC after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Preoperative blood markers and intra-abdominal infection after colorectal cancer resection

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer(CRC)has one of the highest morbidity and mortality rates among digestive tract tumors.Intra-abdominal infection(IAI)is a common postoperative complication that affects the clinical outcomes of patients with CRC and hinders their rehabilitation process.However,the factors influencing abdominal infection after CRC surgery remain unclear;further,prediction models are rarely used to analyze preoperative laboratory indicators and postoperative complications.AIM To explore the predictive value of preoperative blood markers for IAI after radical resection of CRC.METHODS The data of 80 patients who underwent radical resection of CRC in the Anorectal Surgery Department of Suzhou Hospital affiliated with Anhui Medical University were analyzed.These patients were categorized into IAI(n=15)and non-IAI groups(n=65)based on whether IAI occurred.Influencing factors were compared;general data and laboratory indices of both groups were identified.The relationship between the indicators was assessed.Further,a nomogram prediction model was developed and evaluated;its utility and clinical applic-ability were assessed.RESULTS The risk factors for IAI after radical resection of CRC were neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(NLR),platelet-lymphocyte ratio(PLR),systemic immune-inflammation index(SII),and carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)levels.NLR was correlated with PLR and SII(r=0.604,0.925,and 0.305,respectively),while PLR was correlated with SII(r=0.787).The nomogram prediction model demonstrated an area under the curve of 0.968[95%confidence interval(CI):0.948-0.988]in the training set(n=60)and 0.926(95%CI:0.906-0.980)in the validation set(n=20).The average absolute errors of the calibration curves for the training and validation sets were 0.032 and 0.048,respectively,indicating a good model fit.The decision curve analysis curves demonstrated high net income above the 5%threshold,indicating the clinical practicality of the model.CONCLUSION The nomogram model constructed using NLR,PLR,SII,and CEA levels had good accur

Sporadic gastrinoma with refractory benign esophageal stricture:A case report

BACKGROUND Gastrinoma is characterized by an excessive release of gastrin,leading to hypersecretion of gastric acid,subsequently resulting in recurrent peptic ulcers,chronic diarrhea,and even esophageal strictures.This case report aims to improve awareness and facilitate early diagnosis and treatment of gastrinoma by presenting a rare case of gastrinoma with refractory benign esophageal stricture(RBES).Additionally,it highlights the persistent challenges that gastroenterologists encounter in managing RBES.CASE SUMMARY This case demonstrates a patient with gastrinoma who developed RBES and complete esophageal obstruction despite management with maximal acid suppressive therapy,multiple endoscopic bougie dilations and endoscopic incisional therapy(EIT).CONCLUSION It is essential to diagnose gastrinoma as early as possible,as inadequately controlled acid secretion over an extended period increases the risk of developing severe esophageal strictures.In patients with esophageal strictures causing complete luminal obstruction,blind reopening EIT presents challenges and carries a high risk of perforation.

Autophagy is a cellular catabolic process characterized by the formation of double-membrane autophagosomes.Transmission electron microscopy is the most rigorous method to clearly visualize autophagic engulfment and degradation.A large number of studies have shown that autophagy is closely related to the digestion,secretion,and regeneration of gastrointestinal(GI)cells.However,the role of autophagy in GI diseases remains controversial.This article focuses on the morphological and biochemical characteristics of autophagy in GI diseases,in order to provide new ideas for their diagnosis and treatment.

Comprehensive evaluations of heat transfer performance with conjugate heat dissipation effect in high-speed rotating free-disk modeling of aero-engines

Thermal boundary conditions of the turbine disk cavity system are of great importance in the design of secondary air systems in aero-engines.This study aims to investigate the complex heat transfer mechanisms of a rotating turbine disk under high-speed conditions.A high-speed rotating free-disk model with Dorfman empirical solutions is developed to evaluate the heat transfer performance considering various factors.Specifically,the influence of compressibility,variable properties,and heat dissipation is determined using theoretical and numerical analyses.In particular,a novel combined solution method is proposed to simplify the complex heat transfer problem.The results indicate that the heat transfer performance of a free disk is primarily influenced by the rotating Mach number,rotating Reynolds number,Rossby number,and wall temperature ratio.The heat transfer temperature and Nusselt number of the free disk are strongly correlated with the rotating Mach number and rotating Reynolds number.Analysis reveals that heat dissipation is a critical factor affecting the accurate evaluation of the heat transfer performance of the turbine disk.Thus,the combined solution method can serve as a reference for future investigations of flow and heat transfer in high-speed rotating turbine disk cavity systems in aero-engines.

Research on the Icing Diagnosis ofWind Turbine Blades Based on FS–XGBoost–EWMA

In winter,wind turbines are susceptible to blade icing,which results in a series of energy losses and safe operation problems.Therefore,blade icing detection has become a top priority.Conventional methods primarily rely on sensor monitoring,which is expensive and has limited applications.Data-driven blade icing detection methods have become feasible with the development of artificial intelligence.However,the data-driven method is plagued by limited training samples and icing samples;therefore,this paper proposes an icing warning strategy based on the combination of feature selection(FS),eXtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)algorithm,and exponentially weighted moving average(EWMA)analysis.In the training phase,FS is performed using correlation analysis to eliminate redundant features,and the XGBoost algorithm is applied to learn the hidden effective information in supervisory control and data acquisition analysis(SCADA)data to build a normal behavior model.In the online monitoring phase,an EWMA analysis is introduced to monitor the abnormal changes in features.A blade icing warning is issued when themonitored features continuously exceed the control limit,and the ambient temperature is below 0℃.This study uses data fromthree icing-affected wind turbines and one normally operating wind turbine for validation.The experimental results reveal that the strategy can promptly predict the icing trend among wind turbines and stably monitor the normally operating wind turbines.

Effect of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of selective laser-melted PH13-8Mo stainless steel

PH13-8Mo stainless steel powder with high sphericity and well fluidity was prepared by the plasma rotating electrode process.The formed parts with ultra-high purity were manufactured by selective laser melting.The tensile and impact mechanical properties of the printed parts under three heat treatment regimes were compared to those without heat treatment.The microstructure,grain orientation and phase composition were characterized by electron-backscatter diffraction,X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy.The characterization results reveal that the addition of heat treatment makes the grains enlarge,and after different heat treatments,the average grain size from 1.51μm in the printed state increases to 2.78,3.09 and 2.06μm,respectively.The formed parts are mainly composed of martensite and retained austenite.Moreover,the NiAl and M23C precipitates form,which are the major strengthening phases of PH13-8Mo stainless steel.The optimal heat treatment process is 925℃×1 h water cooling(WC)+0℃×2 h air cooling(AC)+540℃×4 h AC.Using this heat treatment process,PH13-8Mo formed parts have the optimal comprehensive mechanical properties:the tensile strength,yield strength and impact energy KU2 are 1492 MPa,1432 MPa and 63 J,respectively.The strengthening and toughening via heat treatment are mainly attributed to dislocation strengthening,the formation of NiAl and M23Co precipitates and the change of volume fraction of the retained austenite.

Subcellular distribution of prohibitin 1 in rat liver during liver regeneration and its cellular implication

BACKGROUND The function of prohibitin 1(Phb1)during liver regeneration(LR)remains relatively unexplored.Our previous research identified downregulation of Phb1 in rat liver mitochondria 24 h after 70%partial hepatectomy(PHx),as determined by subcellular proteomic analysis.AIM To investigate the potential role of Phb1 during LR.METHODS We examined changes in Phb1 mRNA and protein levels,subcellular distribution,and abundance in rat liver during LR following 70%PHx.We also evaluated mitochondrial changes and apoptosis using electron microscopy and flow cytometry.RNA-interference-mediated knockdown of Phb1(PHBi)was performed in BRL-3A cells.RESULTS Compared with sham-operation control groups,Phb1 mRNA and protein levels in 70%PHx test groups were downregulated at 24 h,then upregulated at 72 and 168 h.Phb1 was mainly located in mitochondria,showed a reduced abundance at 24 h,significantly increased at 72 h,and almost recovered to normal at 168 h.Phb1 was also present in nuclei,with continuous increase in abundance observed 72 and 168 h after 70%PHx.The altered ultrastructure and reduced mass of mitochondria during LR had almost completely recovered to normal at 168 h.PHBi in BRL-3A cells resulted in increased S-phase entry,a higher number of apoptotic cells,and disruption of mitochondrial membrane potential.CONCLUSION Phb1 may contribute to maintaining mitochondrial stability and could play a role in regulating cell proliferation and apoptosis of rat liver cells during LR.
