Oxide interference correction plays a vital role in the accurate determination of trace element compositions of geological samples by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(ICP-MS).In this study,we found that the oxide production is mainly controlled by the gas flow of the ICP-MS and a constant oxide correction factor(OCF)can be measured during a routine ***,we can obtain the oxide production by just investigating the gas flow for a fixed ICP-MS system with monitoring of ***,Ba and LREE oxide interferences on the Sc,Eu and Gd of four geological standard samples GSP-2,JP-1,GBW03112 and GBW03113 were corrected by such method and the results were in good agreement with the recommended ***,the present study provides a simple and fast correction method for the oxide interferences of the geological samples during the routine ***,a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet template integrating the correction equations was developed in an in-house software(ICPMSData Cal)for effective calibration.

Observations and Modeling of Incoming Longwave Radiation to Snow Beneath Forest Canopies in the West Tianshan Mountains, china

Forest canopy reduces shortwave radiation and increases the incoming longwave radiation to snowpacks beneath forest canopies. Furthermore, the effect of forest canopy may be changed by complex topography. In this paper, we measured and simulated the incoming longwave radiation to snow beneath forest at different canopy openness in the west Tianshan Mountains, china(43°16'N, 84°24'E) during spring 2013. A sensitivity study was conducted to explore the way that terrain influenced the incoming longwave radiation to snow beneath forest canopies. In the simulation model, measurement datasets, including air temperature, incoming shortwave radiation above canopy, and longwave radiation enhanced by adjacent terrain, were applied to calculate the incoming longwave radiation to snow beneath forest canopy. The simulation results were consistent with the measurements on hourly scale and daily scale. The effect of longwave radiation enhanced by terrain was important than that of shortwave radiation above forest canopy with different openness except the 20% canopy openness. The longwave radiation enhanced due to adjacent terrain increases with the slope increase and temperature rise. When air temperature(or slope) is relatively low, thelongwave radiation enhanced by adjacent terrain is not sensitive to slope(or air temperature), but the sensitivity increases with the decrease of snow cover area on sunny slope. The effect of longwave radiation is especially sensitive when the snow cover on sunny slope melts completely. The effect of incoming shortwave radiation reflected by adjacent terrain on incoming longwave radiation to snow beneath forest canopies is more slight than that of the enhanced longwave radiation.

Great gerbil（Rhombomys opimus） colonies, with bare soil and herbaceous plants, are conspicuous to the background environment throughout their range area. In order to quantify the engineer role of great gerbils, we investigated the plant communities of 20 active colonies in the Junggar Basin, xinjiang, china. In areas without disturbance, desert plant communities were dominated by the shrubs with low level species richness. In burrow areas and surrounding intermediate areas, which were disturbed by great gerbils, the shrubs were suppressed with the decrease of vegetation cover and aboveground biomass. As a result, ＂niche gaps＂ were created in disturbed areas and worked as a refuge for herbaceous annuals and perennials. So the existence of great gerbils increased the overall species richness of the desert. Furthermore, herbaceous annuals and perennials are the major food source for great gerbils in spring, indicating that great gerbils have a mutually beneficial relationship with herbaceous plants.

Root distribution and characteristics were investigated on a 70-year-old Tamarix taklamakanensis individual through uprooting. Rooting depth was restricted by water table, and root morphology adapted to resist the wind movement associated with shallow rooting. Root systems had more structural root mass and length on the leeward side than the windward side of the tree relative to the prevailing wind direction. Additional resistance to wind bending can occur as a result of increased thickening of the lower stem along the axis of the prevailing wind direction, and in T. taklamakanensis, this thickening is greater on the lee side of the stem. We conclude that increased root distribution and thickening of the lower stem on the leeward are an important strategy for T. taklamakanensis in response to wind action in the hinterland of Taklimakan Desert.

For the last decade, chytridiomycosis was considered to be caused by a single species of fungus,Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis(Bd), but a second chytrid species,Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans(Bs), was recently isolated from an infectedSalamandra salamandrain the Netherlands. To date,Bshas only been found in the Netherlands. To assess whetherBsis present in china, we analyzed a total of 665 samples, including 425 wild samples, 41 preserved specimens, and 199 captive samples, from 30 different species, including both urodeles and anurans. Our sample sites covered 15 provinces in china. All of the samples tested negative forBs, resulting in a 95% confidence limit for a prevalence of 0.6%. The absence ofBsobserved in this large-scale survey in china has significant implications for amphibian conservation and for border trade management strategies intended to control amphibian diseases. We strongly recommend the continued close monitoring ofBsto verify the status of this potentially devastating amphibian fungus in china.

Taxonomy plays an important role in understanding the origin, evolution, and ecological functionality of biodiversity. There are large number of unknown species yet to be described by taxonomists, which together with their ecosystem services cannot be effectively protected prior to description. Despite this, taxonomy has been increasingly underrated insufficient funds and permanent positions to retain young talents. Further, the impact factordriven evaluation systems in china exacerbate this downward trend, so alternative evaluation metrics are urgently necessary. When the current generation of outstanding taxonomists retires,there will be too few remaining taxonomists left to train the next generation. In light of these challenges, all co-authors worked together on this paper to analyze the current situation of taxonomy and put out a joint call for immediate actions to advance taxonomy in china.

The household energy mix has significant impacts on human health and climate,as it contributes greatly to many health-and climate-relevant air *** to the well-established urban energy statistical system,the rural hous ehold energy statistical system is incomplete and is often associated with high *** a nationwide investigation,this study reve aled high contributions to energy supply from coal and biomass fuels in the rural household energy sector,while electricity comprised ～20%.Stacking(the use of multiple sources of energy) is significant,and the average number of energy types was 2.8 per *** to 2012,the consumption of biomass and coals in 2017 decreased by 45% and 12%,respectively,while the gas consumption amount increased by 204%.Increased gas and decreased coal consumptions were mainly in cooking,while decreased biomass was in both cooking(41%) and heating(59%).The time-sharing fraction of electricity and gases(E&G) for daily cooking grew,reaching 69% in 2017,but for space heating,traditional solid fuels were still dominant,with the national average shared fraction of E&G being only 20%.The non-uniform spatial distribution and the non-linear increase in the fraction of E&G indicated challenges to achieving universal access to modern cooking energy by 2030,particularly in less-developed rural and mountainous *** some non-typical heating zones,the increased share of E&G for heating was significant and largely driven by income growth,but in typical heating zones,the time-sharing fraction was <5 % and was not significantly increased,except in areas with policy *** intervention policy not only led to dramatic increases in the clean energy fraction for heating but also accelerated the clean cooking *** income,higher education,younger age,less energy/stove stacking and smaller family size positively impacted the clean energy transition.

How many sutures in the southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt:Insights from East xinjiang-West Gansu(NW china)?

Heavy snowfall and extreme snow depth cause serious losses of human life and property in the northern Tianshan Mountains almost every *** cover is an important indicator of climate *** this study,we developed five tree-ringwidth chronologies of Schrenk spruce（Picea schrenkiana *** Mey） from the northern Tianshan Mountains using standard dendrochronological *** analyses indicated that radial growth of trees in the northern Tianshan Mountains is positively affected by annual maximum snow *** relationship was validated and models of annual maximum snow depth back to the 18 th century were *** reconstruction explains 48.3% of the variance in the instrumental temperature records during the 1958/59–2003/04 calibration *** indicates that quasi-periodic changes exist on 2.0–4.0-yr,5.3-yr,14.0-yr,and 36.0-yr *** reconstructed series shows that maximum snow depth exhibits obvious stages change,the periods characterized by lower maximum snow depth were 1809/10–1840/41,1873/74–1893/94,1909/10–1929/30,1964/65–1981/82,and the periods characterized by higher maximum snow depth were 1841/42–1872/73,1894/95–1908/09,1930/31–1963/64,and 1982/83–*** lower period of annual maximum snow depth during the 1920 s–1930 s is consistent with the severe drought that occurred at this time in northern *** the 1970 s to the present,the maximum snow depth has increased clearly with the change to a warmer and wetter climate in *** reconstruction sheds new light on snow cover variability and change in a region where the climate history for the past several centuries is poorly understood.

ROPs （Rho-related GTPases of plants） are small GTPases that are plant-specific signaling proteins. They act as molecular switches in a variety of developmental processes. In this study, seven cDNA clones coding for ROP GTPases have been isolated in Medicago truncatula, and conserved and divergent domains are identified in these predicted MtROP proteins. Phylogenetic analysis has indicated that MtROPs are distributed into groups II, III, IV but group I. MtROP genes are expressed in various tissues at different levels. A quantitative reverse transcription PCR analysis indicated that these MtROP genes have different expression profiles in the roots in response to infection with rhizobia. The expression of MtROP3, MtROP5 and MtROP6 are increased, as the expression of Nod factor or rhizobial-induced marker genes--NFP, Rip1 and Enod11; MtROPIO has showed enhanced expression at a certain post-inoculation time point. No significant changes in MtROP7 and MtROP9 expression have been detected and MtROP8 expression is dramatically decreased by about 80%-90%. Additionally, ROP promoter-GUS analysis has showed that MtROP3, MtROP5 and MtROP6 have elevated expression in transgenic root hairs after rhizobial inoculation. These results might suggest a role for some ROP GTPases in the regulation of early stages during rhizobial infection in symbiosis.
