As a newly proposed two terminals mechanical element, inerter has been successfully applied in vehicle suspension system to improve its vertical vibration isolation performance. The novelty of this paper is to explore the advantages of lateral stability of vehicle suspension by the use of inerter element. A full car model considering the steering condition is built, and the standard fishhook steering input is chosen to test the lateral stability of the suspension system. By considering the ride comfort performance and the rollover resistance performance, three basic suspension layouts incorporating inerter element are optimized by means of genetic algorithm. Constraints of the suspension working space and road holding ability are also taken into account during the optimization. Two steering input condition, namely the sine-steer input and the fishhook steer input are performed to evaluate the vehicle suspension performance. Results show that, the ride comfort and the lateral stability of the vehicle suspension system can be synchronously improved by including the inerter element.

The electronic and crystal structural properties of Bi-doped Sr3Ti2O7 are studied using the first principles density functional theory（DFT）based on pseudopotentials basis and plane-wave *** results show that the formation energy of Bi doping in Site-1 and Site-2 of Sr3Ti2O7 increases with increasing doping *** at the same doping concentration,the formation energy of Bi doping in Site-2 is lower than that in *** undoped Sr3Ti2O7is found to be an insulator and its Fermi level stays at the top of the valence *** the Fermi level of the Bi-doped Sr3Ti2O7moves into the bottom of conduction band,the system undergoes an insulator-to-metal phase ***,our calculation results demonstrated that the Fermi level of the Bi-doped Sr3Ti2O7goes deeper into the bottom of conduction band with increasing doping concentration.

In this work, physical models of neoclassical tearing modes （NTMs） including bootstrap current and multiple modulated electron cyclotron current drive model are applied. Based on the specific physical problems during the suppression of NTMs by driven current, this work compares the efficiency of continuous and modulated driven currents, and simulates the physical processes of multiple modulated driven currents on suppressing rotating magnetic island. It is found that when island rotates along the poloidal direction, the suppression ability of continuous driven current can be massively reduced due to current deposition outside the island separatrix and reverse deposition direction at the X point, which can be avoided by current drive modulation. Multiple current drive has a better suppressing effect than single current drive. This work gives realistic numerical simulations by optimizing the model and parameters based on the experiments, which could provide references for successful suppression of NTMs in future advanced tokamak such as international thermonuclear experimental reactor.

Nitrogen （N） and phosphorus （P） released from the sediment to the surface water is a major source of water quality impairment. Therefore, inhibiting sediment nutrient release seems necessary. In this study, red soil （RS） was employed to control the nutrients released from a black-odorous river sediment under flow conditions. The N and P that were released were effectively controlled by RS capping. Continuous-flow incubations showed that the reduction efficiencies of total N （TN）, ammonium （NH4＋-N）, total P （TP） and soluble reactive P （SRP） of the overlying water by RS capping were 77%, 63%, 77% and 92%, respectively, and nitrification and denitrification occurred concurrently in the RS system. An increase in the water velocity coincided with a decrease in the nutrient release rate as a result of intensive water aeration.

Cast CrCoNiAIx （x=0-1.2） medium-entropy alloys （MEAs） were produced by arc melting and flip cast to investigate the alloying effect of AI addition on the microstructure, phase constituent and mechanical properties. The crystal structure changes from an initial face-centered cubic （FCC） to duplex FCC and body-centered cubic （BCC） and finally a single BCC with increasing AI content. In the duplex region, FCC and BCC phases form under a eutectic reaction in the interdendrite region. In the single BCC region, the dendrites transform to ordered B2 and disordered A2 BCC phases resulting from spinodal decomposition. Corresponding to their phase constituents, yield strength increases accompanied with an elongation reduction with increasing AI addition. A very interesting phenomenon of very weak ordered FCC （001） spots appearing in AI-0.4 alloy was observed, indicating a local ordering of FCC phase. The changes of fracture surfaces after the tensile deformation are also corresponding to the variations in mechanical properties.

Spray drying is a typical method to produce particles in dry powder forms at industrial scale. Most spray-dried products often show a wide range of particle properties even within the same batch. At Monash University, we utilise a microfluidic spray drying approach to generate uniform microparticles with tightly controlled characteristics and sizes in a scalable, almost waste-flee process. The technique is useful to correlate the effects of formulation and spray drying conditions on the properties of spray-dried particles, and can be used to test new formulations for targeted applications such as encapsulation and release of active ingredients. The synthesis route can be applied to other self-assembling systems, includ- ing mesoporous, crystalline, and hierarchically structured microparticles. As spray drying is commonly used in commercial scales, the understanding of how functional particles are formed in relation to formulations and process conditions could assist in developing a cost effective, energy and material-efficient route to produce powders with better properties and ease of handling for more advanced applications such as selective adsorption and bio-separation.

Tunnelling has increasingly become an essential tool in the exploration of underground space.A typical construction problem is the face instability during tunnelling,posing a great threat to associated *** face instability often occurs with the soil arching *** study investigates the combined effect of cutterhead opening ratio and soil non-uniformity on soil arching effect and face stability,via conducting random finite-element analysis coupled with Monte–Carlo *** results underscore that the face stability is strongly associated with the evolution of stress *** obtained stability factors in the uniform soils can serve as a reference for the design of support pressure in practical tunnelling *** addition,non-uniform soils exhibit a lower stability factor than uniform soils,which implies that the latter likely yields an underestimated probability of face *** tunnel face is found to have a probability of failure more than 50%if the spatial non-uniformity of soil is *** the end,a practical framework is established to determine factor of safety(FOS)corresponding to different levels of probability of face failure considering various opening ratios in non-uniform *** required FOS is 1.70 to limit the probability of face instability no more than 0.1%.Our findings can facilitate the prediction of probability of instability in the conventionally deterministic design of face pressure.
