Monitoring Surface Water Change in Northeast China in 1999–2020:Evidence from Satellite Observation and Refined Classification

As a typical region with high water demand for agricultural production,understanding the spatiotemporal surface water changes in Northeast China is critical for water resources management and sustainable development.However,the long-term variation characteristics of surface water of different water body types in Northeast China remain rarely explored.This study investigated how surface water bodies of different types(e.g.,lake,reservoir,river,coastal aquaculture,marsh wetland,ephemeral water) changed during1999–2020 in Northeast China based on various remote sensing-based datasets.The results showed that surface water in Northeast China grew dramatically in the past two decades,with an equivalent area increasing from 24 394 km^(2) in 1999 to 34 595 km^(2) in 2020.The surge of ephemeral water is the primary driver of surface water expansion,which could ascribe to shifted precipitation pattern.Marsh wetlands,rivers,and reservoirs experienced a similar trend,with an approximate 20% increase at the interdecadal scale.By contrast,coastal aquacultures and natural lakes remain relatively stable.This study is expected to provide a more comprehensive investigation of the surface water variability in Northeast China and has important practical significance for the scientific management of different types of surface water.

In this paper,a cost-effective and miniaturized instrument is proposed,which is based on a tunable modulated grating Y-branch(MG-Y)laser for rapid temperature measurement using a Fabry-Perot interferometer(FPI)sensor.The FPI sensor with a 1463-μm cavity length is a short segment of a capillary tube sandwiched by two sections of single-mode fibers(SMFs).This system has a broad tunable range(1527 nm-1567 nm)with a wavelength interval of 8 pm and a tuning rate of 100 Hz.Temperature sensing experiments are carried out to investigate the performance of the system by demodulating the absolute cavity length of the FPI sensor using a cross-correlation algorithm.Experimental results show that the sensor can reach the response time as short as 94 ms with the sensitivity of 802 pm/C.Benefiting from the homemade and integrated essential electrical circuits,the entire system has the small size,low cost,and practical application potential to be used in the harsh environment for rapid temperature measurement.

Background The superiority of balloon angioplasty plus aggressive medical management(AMM)to AMM alone for symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis(sICAS)on efficacy and safety profiles still lacks evidence from randomised controlled trials(RCTs).Aim To demonstrate the design of an RCT on balloon angioplasty plus AMM for sICAS.Design Balloon Angioplasty for Symptomatic Intracranial Artery Stenosis(BASIS)trial is a multicentre,prospective,randomised,open-label,blinded end-point trial to investigate whether balloon angioplasty plus AMM could improve clinical outcome compared with AMM alone in patients with sICAS.Patients eligible in BASIS were 35–80 years old,with a recent transient ischaemic attack within the past 90 days or ischaemic stroke between 14 days and 90 days prior to enrolment due to severe atherosclerotic stenosis(70%–99%)of a major intracranial artery.The eligible patients were randomly assigned to receive balloon angioplasty plus AMM or AMM alone at a 1:1 ratio.Both groups will receive identical AMM,including standard dual antiplatelet therapy for 90 days followed by long-term single antiplatelet therapy,intensive risk factor management and life-style modification.All participants will be followed up for 3years.Study outcomes Stroke or death in the next 30 days after enrolment or after balloon angioplasty procedure of the qualifying lesion during follow-up,or any ischaemic stroke or revascularisation from the qualifying artery after 30 days but before 12 months of enrolment,is the primary outcome.Discussion BASIS trail is the first RCT to compare the efficacy and safety of balloon angioplasty plus AMM to AMM alone in sICAS patients,which may provide an alternative perspective for treating sICAS.Trial registration number NCT03703635;https://www.***.gov.

Intramedullary tumors are a class of central nervous system tumors with an incidence of 2 to 4%.As they are located very deep and frequently cause postoperative neurological complications,surgical resection is difficult.In recent years,many surgeons have performed electrophysiological monitoring to effectively reduce the occurrence of post-operative neurological complications.Modern electrophysiological monitoring technology has advanced considerably,leading to the development of many monitoring methods,such as SSEPs,MEPs,DCM,and EMG,to monitor intramedullary tumors.However,electrophysiological monitoring in tumor resection is still being studied.In this article,we discussed the different monitoring methods and their role in monitoring intramedullary tumors by reviewing previous studies.Intratumorally tumors need to be monitored for a summary of the condition of the patient.Only by using various monitoring methods flexibly and through clear communication between surgeons and neurophysiological experts can good decisions be made during surgery and positive surgical results be achieved.

Effect of kerosene injection states on mixing and combustion characteristics in a cavity-based supersonic combustor

It has been found that the static pressure distribution along the axial direction of liquid kerosene is lower than that of the gaseous kerosene under the same flow condition and overall equivalent ratio from previous studies.To further investigate this phenomenon,a compressible two-phase parallel simulation method is utilized to analyze the mixing and combustion characteristics of gaseous and liquid kerosene jets in a cavity-based supersonic combustor.The numerical results are consistent with the experiments and demonstrate that gaseous injection leads to a cavity shear layer that dives deeper into the cavity,forming two recirculation zones in the front and rear of the cavity.In contrast,the cavity shear layer is closer to the mainstream during liquid injection,and only a large recirculation zone is formed in the rear of the cavity.As a result of the cavity shear layer and the recirculating flow,the fuel vapor of gaseous injection accumulates in the front of the cavity,while for the liquid injection,the fuel vapor disperses in the cavity,cavity shear layer,and the region above,and the rear of the cavity has a higher fuel vapor concentration than the front.This unique fuel distribution causes the combustion area to be concentrated in the cavity during the gaseous injection but dispersed inside and downstream of the cavity during the liquid injection.As a result,forming a thermal throat under the same conditions is more challenging during liquid injection,and the generated static pressure distribution is lower than that during the gaseous injection.

Nausea and vomiting are important defensive responses to cope with pathogens and toxins that invade the body. The nucleus of the solitary tract(NTS) is important for initiating these responses. However, the molecular heterogeneities and cellular diversities of the NTS occlude a better understanding of these defensive responses. Here, we constructed the single-nucleus transcriptomic atlas of NTS cells and found multiple populations of NTS neurons that may be involved in these defensive responses. Among these, we identified Calbindin1-positive(Calb1+) NTS neurons that are molecularly distinct from Tac1+neurons.These Calb1+neurons are critical for nausea and retching induced by cereulide; an emetic toxin secreted by Bacillus Cereus. Strikingly, we found that cereulide can directly modulate vagal sensory neurons that innervate Calb1+NTS neurons, a novel mechanism distinct from that for nausea and retching induced by Staphylococcal enterotoxin A. Together, our transcriptomic atlas of NTS neurons and the functional analyses revealed the neural mechanism for cereulide-induced retching-like behavior. These results demonstrate the molecular and cellular complexities in the brain that underlie defensive responses to the diversities of pathogens and toxins.

Background: Adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma (ACP) is the commonest pediatric sellar tumor. No effective drug is available and interpatient heterogeneity is prominent. This study aimed to identify distinct molecular subgroups of ACP based on the multi-omics profiles, imaging findings, and histological features, in order to predict the response to anti-inflammatory treatment and immunotherapies.Methods: Totally 142 Chinese cases diagnosed with craniopharyngiomas were profiled, including 119 ACPs and 23 papillary craniopharyngiomas. Whole-exome sequencing (151 tumors, including recurrent ones), RNA sequencing (84 tumors), and DNA methylome profiling (95 tumors) were performed. Consensus clustering and non-negative matrix factorization were used for subgrouping, and Cox regression were utilized for prognostic evaluation, respectively.Results: Three distinct molecular subgroups were identified: WNT, ImA, and ImB. The WNT subgroup showed higher Wnt/β-catenin pathway activity, with a greater number of epithelial cells and more predominantly solid tumors. The ImA and ImB subgroups had activated inflammatory and interferon response pathways, with enhanced immune cell infiltration and more predominantly cystic tumors. Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MEK/MAPK) signaling was activated only in ImA samples, while IL-6 and epithelial-mesenchymal transition biomarkers were highly expressed in the ImB group, mostly consisting of children. The degree of astrogliosis was significantly elevated in the ImA group, with severe finger-like protrusions at the invasive front of the tumor. The molecular subgrouping was an independent prognostic factor, with the WNT group having longer event-free survival than ImB (Cox,P = 0.04). ImA/ImB cases were more likely to respond to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy than the WNT group (P <0.01). Organic electrochemical transistors(OECTs)have emerged as one type of promising building block for neuromorphic systems owing to their capability of mimicking the morphology and functions of biological neurons and synapses.Currently,numerous kinds of OECTs have been developed,while self-healing performance has been neglected in most reported OECTs.In this work,the OECTs using self-healing polymer electrolytes as dielectric layers are proposed.Several important synaptic behaviors are simulated in the OECTs by doping the channel layers with ions from the electrolytes.Benefitting from the dynamic hydrogen bonds in the self-healing polymer electrolytes,the OECTs can successfully maintain their electrical performance and the ability of emulating synaptic behaviors after self-healing compared with the initial state.More significantly,the sublinear spatial summation function is demonstrated in the OECTs and their potential in flexible electronics is also validated.These results suggest that our devices are expected to be a vital component in the development of future wearable and bioimplantable neuromorphic systems.
