Effect of low-energy shock waves in microfracture holes in the repair of articular cartilage defects in a rabbit model

Background Microfracture is a type of bone marrow stimulation in arthroscopic cartilage repair. However, the overall concentration of the mesenchymal stem cells is quite low and declines with age, and in the end the lesion is filled by fibrocartilage. The aim of this research was to investigate a novel method of enhancing microfracture by determining whether low-energy shock waves in microfracture holes would facilitate cartilage repair in a rabbit *** Full-thickness cartilage defects were created at the medial femoral condyle of 36 mature New Zealand white rabbits without penetrating subchondral bone. The rabbits were randomly divided into three groups. In experimental group A, low-energy shock-wave therapy was performed in microfracture holes （diameter, 1 mm） at an energy flux density （EFD） of 0.095 m J/mm2 and 200 impulses by DolorClast Master （Electro Medical Systems SA, Switzerland）microprobe （diameter, 0.8 mm）. In experimental group B, microfracture was performed alone. The untreated rabbits served as a control group. At 4, 8, and 12 weeks after the operations, repair tissues at the defects were analyzed stereologically, histologically, and *** The defects were filled gradually with repair tissues in experimental groups A and B, and no repair tissues had formed in the control group at 12 weeks. A novel and visible ratiometric fluorescence determination of carbaryl based on red emissive carbon dots by a solvent-free method

In this study, a simple and effective ratiometric fluorescence method has been developed for carbaryl detection, utilizing red emissive carbon dots（R-CDs）. The underlying principle of this proposed strategy relies on the rapid hydrolysis of carbaryl under an alkaline condition and production of 1-naphthol with blue-emission at 462 nm. Furthermore, the as-synthesized R-CDs（Em. 677 nm）, serve as a reference, enhancing the visual tracking of carbaryl through the transformation of fluorescent color from red to *** concentration of carbaryl exhibits a commendable linear correlation with the ratio of fluorescence intensity, ranging from 0 to 20 μg/m L（R2= 0.9989） with a low detection limit of 0.52 ng/m L. Additionally, the described methodology can be used for the enzyme-free visual assay of carbaryl, even in the presence of other carbamate pesticides and metal ions, in tap water and lake water samples with excellent accuracy（spiked recoveries, 94%–106.1%）, high precision(relative standard deviation（RSD） ≤ 2.42),and remarkable selectivity. This fast and highly sensitive naked-eye ratiometric sensor holds immense promise for carbaryl detection in intricate environments and food safety fields.

Mechanisms and Efficacy of Chinese Herbal Medicines in Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) is one of the most common diseases in elderly men, the incidence of which gradually increases with age and leads to lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS), which seriously affects the quality of life of patients. Chinese herbal medicines(CHMs) are widely used for the treatment of BPH in China and some other countries. To explore the molecular mechanisms of CHMs for BPH, we conducted a review based on peer-reviewed English-language publications in Pub Med and Web of Science databases from inception to December 31, 2023. This article primarily reviewed 32 papers on the use of CHMs and its active compounds in the treatment of BPH, covering animal and cell experiments, and identified relevant mechanisms of action. The results suggest that the mechanisms of action of CHMs in treating BPH may involve the regulation of sex hormones,downregulation of cell growth factors, anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects, inhibition of cell proliferation, and promotion of apoptosis. CHMs also exhibit α-blocker-like effects, with the potential to relax urethral smooth muscle and alleviate LUTS. Additionally, we also reviewed 4 clinical trials and meta-analyses of CHMs for the treatment of BPH patients, which provided initial evidence of the safety and effectiveness of CHMs treatment. CHMs treatment for BPH shows advantages as a multi-component, multi-target, and multi-pathway therapy, which can mitigate the severity of the disease, improve LUTS, and may become a reliable treatment option in the future.

In this paper,the Drinfeld-Sokolov-Satsuma-Hirota(DSSH)system is studied by using residual symmetry and the consistent Riccati expansion(CRE)method,*** residual symmetry of the DSSH system is localized to lie point symmetry in a properly prolonged system,based on which we get a new Bäcklund transformation for this *** symmetry reduction solutions of the DSSH system are obtained by applying the classical lie group approach on the prolonged ***,the DSSH system proves to be CRE integrable and new interesting interaction solutions between solitons and periodic waves are generated and analyzed.

First documentation of early Silurian conodonts from western Thailand and its geological implications

The early Silurian conodonts are firstly described and illustrated from western Thailand. Samples were collected from the Kroeng Kravia Forest Park area for conodont and lithofacies analyses. An upper Telychian Lower Pterospathodus amorphognathoides amorphognathoides Subzone is recognized for the studied succession. Three lithofacies were identified from the carbonate succession, including stromatolite-thrombolite limestone, nodular limestone, and red limestone. Both analyses on lithofacies and conodont assemblages indicate a deeper marine depositional environment. The conodont fauna in the study area is similar to that from Baoshan of Yunnan Province and Langao of Shaanxi Province in West China and resembles that from similar depositional environments in Australia, Laurentia, and peri-Gondwana, suggesting good connections among these regions by ocean currents.
