Experimental study of reservoir damage of water-based fracturing fluids prepared by different polymers

Fracturing operations can effectively improve the production of low-permeable reservoirs. The performance of fracturing fluids directly affects the fracturing efficiency and back flow capacity. As polymerbased fracturing fluids(such as guar gum(GG), polyacrylamide(HPAM), etc.) are high-viscosity fluids formed by viscosifiers and crosslinking agents, the degree of gel breakage after the fracturing operation directly influences the damage degree to the reservoir matrix and the mobility of oil angd gas produced from the reservoir into the wellbore. This study compared the viscosity, molecular weight, and particle size of the fracturing fluid after gel breakage prepared by GG and HPAM as viscosifiers, as well as evaluate their damage to the core. Results show that the viscosities of the gel-breaking fluid increased with the concentration of the viscosifier for both the HPAM-based and GG-based fracturing fluids. For the breaking fluid with the same viscosity, the molecular weight in the HPAM-based gel-breaking fluid was much larger than that in the GG-based system. Moreover, for the gel-breaking fluid with the same viscosity, the molecular particle size of the residual polymers in the HPAM-based system was smaller than that in the GG-based system. The damage to the core with the permeability of 1 × 10^(-3)μm^(2) caused by both the HPAM-based and GG-based gel-breaking fluids decreased with the increase in the solution viscosity. For the gel-breaking fluid systems with the same viscosity(i.e., 2-4 mPa s), the damage of HPAM-based fracturing fluid to low-permeability cores was greater than the GG-based fracturing fluid(45.6%-80.2%) since it had a smaller molecular particle size, ranging from 66.2% to 77.0%. This paper proposed that the damage caused by hydraulic fracturing in rock cores was related to the partilce size of residual polymers in gel-breaking solution, rather than its molecular weight. Corrosion resistance of steel materials in liCl-KCl melts

The corrosion behaviors of 304SS, 316LSS, and Q235A in liCl-KCl melts were investigated at 450℃ by Tafel curves and elec- trochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS）. 316LSS shows the best corrosion resistance behaviors among the three materials, including the most positive corrosion potential and the smallest corrosion current from the Tafel curves and the largest electron transfer resistance from the Nyquist plots. The results are in good agreement with the weight losses in the static corrosion experiments for 45 h. This may be attributed to the better corrosion resistance of Mo and Ni existing as alloy elements in 316LSS, which exhibit the lower corrosion current densities and more positive corrosion potentials than 316LSS in the same melts.

Interface energetics and engineering of organic heterostructures in organic photovoltaic cells

The reliable information about interface energetics of organic materials, especially the energy level alignment at organic heterostructures is of pronounced importance for unraveling the photon harvesting and charge separation process in organic photovoltaic(OPV) cells. This article provides an overview of interface energetics at typical planar and mixed donor-acceptor heterostructures, perovskite/organic hybrid interfaces, and their contact interfaces with charge collection layers. The substrate effect on energy level offsets at organic heterostructures and the processes that control and limit the OPV operation are presented. Recent efforts on interface engineering with electrical doping are also discussed.

BACKGROUND The prognosis of gastric cancer in an advanced stage remains poor. The exact efficacy of the use of intraoperative sustained-release chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil(5-FU) in advanced-stage gastric cancer is still *** To explore the long-term survival benefit of using sustained-release 5-FU implants in stage Ⅱ and stage Ⅲ gastric cancer *** Patients with gastric cancer in a locally advanced stage and who underwent an R0 radical resection between Jan 2014, to Dec 2016, in this single institution were included. Patients with pathological diagnoses other than adenocarcinoma were excluded. All included patients were grouped according to whether intraoperative sustained-release(SR) chemotherapy with 5-FU was used or not(NSR). The primary end-point was 5-year overall survival. Kaplan–Meier method with logrank test was used to analyze the overall survival of patients and Cox analysis was used to analyze prognosis factors of these *** In total, there were 563 patients with gastric cancer with locally advanced stage, who underwent an R0 radical resection. 309 patients were included in the final analysis. 219(70.9%) were men, with an average age of 58.25 years. Furthermore, 56(18.1%) received neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and 191(61.8%) were in TNM stage Ⅲ. In addition, 158 patients received intraoperative sustainedrelease chemotherapy with 5-FU and were included in the SR group, while the other 161 patients were included in the NSR group. The overall complication rate was 12.94% in the whole group and 10.81%, 16.46% in SR and NSR groups, respectively. There were no significant differences between the two groups in overall survival and complication rate(P > 0.05). Parameters of ocular fundus on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography for glaucoma diagnosis

In this review, we summarize the progression of several parameters assessed by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography （SD-OCT） in recent years for the detection of glaucoma. Monitoring the progression of defects in the retinal nerve fiber layer （RNFL） thickness is essential. Imaging and analysis of retinal ganglion cells （RGCs） and inner plexiform layer （IPL）, respectively, have been of great importance. Optic nerve head （ONH） topography obtained from 3D SD-OCT images is another crucial step. Other important assessments involve locating the Bruch＇s membrane opening （BMO）, estimating the optic disc size and rim area, and measuring the lamina cribrosa displacement. Still other parameters found in the past three years for glaucoma diagnosis comprise central retinal artery resistive index, optic disc perfusion in optical coherence tomography angiography （OCTA） study, peripapillary choroidal thickness, and choroidal area in SD-OCT. Recently, several more ocular fundus parameters have been found, and compared with the earlier parameters to judge the accuracy of diagnosis. While a few of these parameters have been widely used in clinical practice, a fair number are still in the experimental stage.

Helium ions irradiation-induced surface damage in Fe-based melt-spun ribbons

The Fe78Si8B14 and Fe78P8B14 ribbons with different wheel speeds were prepared by melt-spinning, and their responses to He＋ ion irradiation were investigated. Previous studies had shown that the ion beam resistance capability of amorphous ribbons was better than their corresponding crystalline counterparts. However, no significant changes on the surface at low fluence are observed. At a relatively higher fluence, both the ribbons prepared at low and high wheel speeds behave the similar irradiation responses： peeling, flaking and multi-layer damages occur. The fully amorphous ribbons prepared at a high wheel speed can accommodate partial incident ions owing to the inherent disordered structure. As the irradiation fluence increases, they fail to accommodate the excess incident ions, which easily aggregate to result in the surface damage. While the partial amorphous ribbons prepared at a low wheel speed possess lots of unstable crystalline grain boundaries owing to the precipitation of Si-or P-rich phase, which may act as the source for the irradiation-induced defects annihilation. Results show that the size and the fraction of precipitate phases in amorphous matrix may play a dominated role in resisting the ion irradiation.

Simulation of water and nitrogen dynamics as affected by drip fertigation strategies

The aim of drip fertigation is synchronising the application of water and nutrients with crop requirements, and maintaining the proper concentration and distribution of nutrient and water in the soil. The wetting patterns and nutrient distributions under drip fertigation have been proved to be closely related to the fertigation strategies. In order to find out the critical factors that affect the nutrient distribution under different drip fertigaiton strategies, a computer simulation model HYDRUS2D/3D was used to simulate the water and nitrate distribution for various fertigation strategies from a surface point source. Simulation results were compared with the observed ones from our previous studies. A 15° wedge-shaped plexiglass container was used in our experiment to represent one-twenty-fourth of the complete cylinder. The height of container is 40 cm, and the radius is 41 cm. The ammonium nitrate solution was added through a no. 7 needle connected to a Mariotte tube with a flexible hose. The soil water content, nitrate and ammonium concentrations were measured. The comparison of simulated and observed data demonstrated that the model performed reliably. The numerical analysis for various fertigation strategies from a surface point source showed that：（1） The total amount of irrigation water, the concentration of the fertilizer solution and the amount of pure water used to flush the pipeline after fertilizer solution application are the three critical factors influencing the distribution of water and fertilizer nitrogen in the soil.（2） The fresh water irrigation duration prior to fertigation has no obvious effect on nitrate distribution. The longer flushing time period after fertigation resulted in nitrate accumulation closer to the wetting front. From the point of avoiding the possibility of nitrate loss from the root zone, we recommended that the flushing time period should be as shorter as possible.（3） For a given amount of fertilizer, higher concentration of t
