Selenium deficiency induces spleen pathological changes in pigs by decreasing selenoprotein expression,evoking oxidative stress,and activating inflammation and apoptosis

Background:The immune system is one aspect of health that is affected by dietary selenium(Se)levels and selenoprotein *** is an important immune organ of the body,which is directly involved in cellular ***,there are limited reports on Se levels and spleen ***,this study established a Se-deficient pig model to investigate the mechanism of Se deficiency-induced splenic ***:Twenty-four pure line castrated male Yorkshire pigs(45 days old,12.50±1.32 kg,12 full-sibling pairs)were divided into two equal groups and fed Se-deficient diet(0.007 mg Se/kg)or Se-adequate diet(0.3 mg Se/kg)for 16 *** the end of the trial,blood and spleen were collected to assay for erythroid parameters,the osmotic fragility of erythrocytes,the spleen index,histology,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase nick-end labeling(TUNEL)staining,Se concentrations,the selenogenome,redox status,and signaling related inflammation and ***:Dietary Se deficiency decreased the erythroid parameters and increased the number of osmotically fragile erythrocytes(Plin and eosin and TUNEL staining indicated that the white pulp decreased,the red pulp increased,and splenocyte apoptosis occurred in the Se deficient *** deficiency decreased the Se concentration and selenoprotein expression in the spleen(P<0.05),blocked the glutathione and thioredoxin antioxidant systems,and led to redox *** deficiency activated the NF-κB and HIF-1αtranscription factors,thus increasing pro-inflammatory cytokines(IL-1β,IL-6,IL-8,IL-17,and TNF-α),decreasing anti-inflammatory cytokines(IL-10,IL-13,and TGF-β)and increasing expression of the downstream genes COX-2 and iNOS(P<0.05),which in turn induced *** addition,Se-deficiency induced apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway,upregulated apoptotic genes(Caspase3,Caspase8,and Bak),and downregulated antiapoptotic genes(Bcl-2)(P<0.05)at the mRNA

Practical Blind Image Denoising via Swin-Conv-UNet and Data Synthesis

While recent years have witnessed a dramatic upsurge of exploiting deep neural networks toward solving image denoising,existing methods mostly rely on simple noise assumptions,such as additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN),JPEG compression noise and camera sensor noise,and a general-purpose blind denoising method for real images remains *** this paper,we attempt to solve this problem from the perspective of network architecture design and training data ***,for the network architecture design,we propose a swin-conv block to incorporate the local modeling ability of residual convolutional layer and non-local modeling ability of swin transformer block,and then plug it as the main building block into the widely-used image-to-image translation UNet *** the training data synthesis,we design a practical noise degradation model which takes into consideration different kinds of noise(including Gaussian,Poisson,speckle,JPEG compression,and processed camera sensor noises)and resizing,and also involves a random shuffle strategy and a double degradation *** experiments on AGWN removal and real image denoising demonstrate that the new network architecture design achieves state-of-the-art performance and the new degradation model can help to significantly improve the *** believe our work can provide useful insights into current denoising *** source code is available at https://***/cszn/SCUNet.

Increasing intense human activities have largely changed the coastal landscape and caused many environmental ***,whether human-induced activities could change the coastal land use gradient pattern,an important coastal zonal characteristic along the sea-land direction,remains *** Bay was selected as the study area in this *** to the distance of the land use and land cover(LULC)to the coastline,we clustered the typical coastal land use sequence patterns(CLUSPs)along the sea-land direction between 1988 and 2016 in Manila Bay and found the following.(1)Four typical CLUSPs,including the natural CLUSP dominated by forest land and grassland,the agricultural CLUSP dominated by dry farm and paddy field,the urbanised CLUSP dominated by construction land and the fishery CLUSP dominated by fishing farm,were mined in *** typical CLUSPs(a natural CLUSP,an intermediate CLUSP between the agricultural and urbanised CLUSPs,and a fishery CLUSP)were mined in 2016.(2)Affected by the dominant LULC,these typical CLUSPs showed a regular spatial pattern along the sea-land *** example,the typical natural CLUSP showed a landward pattern due to the long distance between the forest land and grassland and the coastline.(3)However,influenced by urban and aquaculture expansion,the land intensification of the CLUSP exhibited an obvious increase and caused the decrease of the CLUSP diversity from 1988 to *** increase in the area of LULC coverage showed no obvious correlation with its distance from the coastline(DFC),but the net increase rate of LULC coverage had a significant negative correlation with the ***,human-induced activities have a large impact on the gradient pattern of coastal land use along the sea-land direction.

Klebsiella as an α-tocopherol source facilitating Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation in rice straw silage

An n–n type heterojunction enabling highly efficient carrier separation in inorganic solar cells

Carrier separation in a solar cell usually relies on the p–n junction. Here we show that an n–n type inorganic semiconductor heterojunction is also able to separate the exciton for efficient solar cell applications. The n–n type heterojunction was formed by hydrothermal deposition of Sb_(2)(S,Se)_(3) and thermal evaporation of Sb_(2)Se_(3). We found that the n–n junction is able to enhance the carrier separation by the formation of an electric field, reduce the interfacial recombination and generate optimized band alignment. The device based on this n–n junction shows 2.89% net efficiency improvement to 7.75%when compared with the device consisted of semiconductor absorber–metal contact. The study in the n–n type solar cell is expected to bring about more versatile materials utility, new interfacial engineering strategy and fundamental findings in the photovoltaic energy conversion process.

Laparoscopic finding of a hepatic subcapsular spider-like telangiectasis sign in biliary atresia

AIM To assess the diagnostic value of a laparoscopic finding of a hepatic subcapsular spider-like telangiectasis (HSST) sign in biliary atresia. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted first and then a validation set was used to investigate the value of an HSST sign in predicting biliary atresia (BA). In the retrospective study, laparoscopic images of the liver surface were reviewed in 126 patients with infantile cholestasis (72 BA patients and 54 non-BA cholestasis patients) and a control group of 38 patients with nonhepatic conditions. Analysis was first made by two observers separately and finally, a consensus conclusion was achieved. Then, the diagnostic value of the HSST sign was validated in an independent cohort including 45 BA and 45 non-BA patients. RESULTS In the retrospective investigation, an *** HSST sign was found in all BA patients, while we were unable to detect the HSST sign in 98.1% of the 54 non-BA patients. There was no HSST sign in any of the control subjects. In the first review, the sensitivity and specificity from one reviewer were 100% and 98.1%, respectively, and the results from the other reviewer were both 100%. The consensus sensitivity and specificity were 100% and 98.1%, respectively. The HSST sign was defined as being composed of several enlarged tortuous spider-like vascular plexuses with two to eight branches distributed on all over the liver surface, which presented as either a concentrated type or a dispersed type. In the independent validation group, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of the HSST sign were 100%, 97.8%, 97.8% and 100%, respectively. CONCLUSION The HSST sign is characteristic in BA, and laparoscopic exploration for the HSST sign is valuable in the diagnosis of BA.
