Prediction models of burst strength degradation for casing with considerations of both wear and corrosion

Casing wear and casing corrosion are serious problems affecting casing integrity failure in deep and ultra-deep wells.This paper aims to predict the casing burst strength with considerations of both wear and corrosion.Firstly,the crescent wear shape is simplified into three categories according to common mathematical models.Then,based on the mechano-electrochemical(M-E)interaction,the prediction model of corrosion depth is built with worn depth as the initial condition,and the prediction models of burst strength of the worn casing and corroded casing are obtained.Secondly,the accuracy of different prediction models is validated by numerical simulation,and the main influence factors on casing strength are obtained.At last,the theoretical models are applied to an ultra-deep well in Northwest China,and the dangerous well sections caused by wear and corrosion are predicted,and the corrosion rate threshold to ensure the safety of casing is obtained.The results show that the existence of wear defects results in a stress concentration and enhanced M-E interaction on corrosion depth growth.The accuracy of different mathematical models is different:the slot ring model is most accurate for predicting corrosion depth,and the eccentric model is most accurate for predicting the burst strength of corroded casing.The burst strength of the casing will be overestimated by more than one-third if the M-E interaction is neglected,so the coupling effect of wear and corrosion should be sufficiently considered in casing integrity evaluation.

Experimental study on combustion characteristics of supersonic combustor based on alternating-wedge strut

Acetone Planar Lase-Induced Fluorescence(PliF)and OH-PliF were employed to capture the fuel distribution and OH distribution downstream for the supersonic combustor based on the alternating-wedge strut.The combustion establishment process and combustion mode in the combustor under different fuel injection methods and different equivalence ratios were analyzed.Combined with the kerosene-PliF and OH-PliF results in the cavity combustor,a comparative analysis was conducted to understand the combustion characteristics and combustion modes between the alternating-wedge strut-based combustor and the cavity-based combustor.The results show that the combustor is in weak combustion mode in the case of low equivalence ratio,and the combustor is in intensive combustion mode in the case of high equivalence ratio.The lower limit of the equivalence ratio of the combustor to maintain the intensive combustion mode varies based on different fuel injection methods.The OH distribution under reacting condition has a strong correlation with the fuel distribution under non-reacting condition.The OH fluorescence signal near the injector is weaker when the fuel distribution is more concentrated.The injector position located at the base of the strut rear has better mixing performance,enabling the combustor to be in intensive combustion mode at a lower equivalence ratio.The combustion reaction in the alternating-wedge strut-based combustor is not necessarily dominated by mass transfer due to the mixing enhancement and premixed zone downstream of strut,while the combustion reaction process in the cavity-based combustor is mainly influenced by mass transfer.

Impact of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist and hormone replacement therapy on pregnancy outcomes in single euploid frozen-thawed embryo transfer for patients with endometrial polyps

Objective: Although consensus on the optimal endometrial preparation protocol for frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) is lacking, this is particularly true for patients with infertility and a history of endometrial polyps (EPs). In this study, we aimed to investigate whether a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist combined with hormone replacement therapy (GnRHa-HRT) could improve pregnancy outcomes in single euploid FET for patients with a history of EPs.Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 395 women who underwent their first single euploid FET cycle were divided into groups according to endometrial preparation protocols as follows: natural cycle (NC) (n = 220), hormone replacement therapy (HRT) (n = 122), and GnRHa-HRT groups (n = 53). Subsequently, the FET cycles in the three groups were subdivided according to maternal age. All patients underwent hysteroscopic polypectomy before FET, and their EPs were confirmed by pathology.Results: No statistically significant differences were observed in live birth rates among the three groups (58.64%vs. 58.20%vs. 56.60%,P = 0.964). Furthermore, the rates of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, premature live birth, and pregnancy complications were comparable among the three groups (P >0.05). After adjusting for potential confounding factors, no significant differences in pregnancy outcomes were reported between the groups (adjusted odds ratios [OR] and 95% credible intervals [CI] for live birth rate, HRTvs. NC: 1.119, 0.660–1.896,P = 0.677; GnRHa-HRTvs. NC: 1.165, 0.610–2.226,P = 0.643). Additionally, the pregnancy outcomes of the FET cycle were not influenced by the endometrial preparation protocols in the subgroups when stratified by maternal age (P >0.05).Conclusion: GnRHa-HRT did not improve the pregnancy outcomes of the single euploid FET in patients with a history of EPs.

Numerical study on the effective thermal conductivity and thermal tortuosity of porous media with different morphologies

Effective thermal conductivity and thermal tortuosity are crucial parameters for evaluating the effectiveness of heat conduction within porous media. The direct pore-scale numerical simulation method is applied to investigate the heat conduction processes inside porous structures with different morphologies. The thermal conduction performances of idealized porous structures are directly compared with real foams across a wide range of porosity. Real foam structures are reconstructed using X-ray computed tomography and image processing techniques, while Kelvin and Weaire-Phelan structures are generated through periodic unit cell reconstruction. The detailed temperature fields inside the porous structures are determined by solving the heat conduction equation at the pore scale. The results present that the equivalent thermal conductivity of Kelvin and Weaire-Phelan structures is similar to and greater than that of the real foam structure with the same strut porosity. The thermal tortuosity of real foam structure is relatively larger and the heat conduction path becomes straighter by adopting the anisotropic design. The thermal tortuosity of the fluid channels for Kelvin, Weaire-Phelan, and real foam structures is close to one. The thermal conductivity of porous structures with heat transfer fluid increases as the thermal conductivity ratio of fluid to solid becomes larger. A small porosity of porous media leads to a larger equivalent thermal conductivity due to the dominant contribution of porous skeleton in the heat conduction process. Correlations derived from parallel and series models, as well as the Maxwell-Eucken models,provide decent predictions of effective thermal conductivity, with an average error of less than 8% in the entire range of thermal conductivity ratio.

Sarcopenia in cirrhotic patients: Does frailty matter while waiting for a liver transplant?

Sarcopenia reflects patient frailty and should be routinely assessed due to its high prevalence in cirrhotic patients awaiting liver transplants.Pre-transplant nutritional optimization should be tailored for patients with a definitive diagnosis of sarcopenia,therefore improving functional status at transplant and reducing posttransplant mortality.Hepatologists and transplant surgeons should have raised awareness regarding sarcopenia and the reflected frailty that hinder posttransplant outcomes.The policymakers should also take into account when modifying the organ allocation model that sarcopenia or frailty might become a decisive factor in allocating organs for cirrhotic patients,in order to ensure post-transplant survival and quality of life.

Rare esophageal carcinoma-primary adenoid cystic carcinoma of the esophagus: A case report

BACKGROUND Esophageal adenoid cystic carcinoma(EACC)is an exceedingly rare malignant tumor of the esophagus,posing significant challenges in the clinic.CASE SUMMARY This report detailed the case of a 72-year-old male whose diagnosis of EACC was confirmed through postoperative histopathological examination.The patient underwent thoracoscopy-assisted radical resection of the esophageal tumor,coupled with lymph node dissection.Pathological findings revealed an adenoid cystic carcinoma infiltrating the entire layer of the muscularis propria,locally extending into the outer membrane of the esophageal fiber,involving the cardia and exhibiting no lymph node metastasis.The patient’s condition was classified as primary EACC,T3N0M0,per the American Joint Committee on Cancer(2017;8th edition).One month after surgery,the patient received postoperative adjuvant radiation therapy.CONCLUSION In addressing the rarity and high potential for biopsy misdiagnosis of EACC,this study delved into its diagnostic methods and treatment.

MiR-142-3p Regulates ILC1s by Targeting HMGB1 via the NF-κB Pathway in a Mouse Model of Early Pregnancy Loss

Objective Innate lymphoid cells(ILCs)are a class of newly discovered immunocytes.Group 1 ILCs(ILC1s)are identified in the decidua of humans and mice.High mobility group box 1(HMGB1)is predicted to be one of the target genes of miR-142-3p,which is closely related to pregnancy-related diseases.Furthermore,miR-142-3p and HMGB1 are involved in regulating the NF-κB signaling pathway.This study aimed to examine the regulatory effect of miR-142-3p on ILC1s and the underlying mechanism involving HMGB1 and the NF-κB signaling pathway.Methods Mouse models of normal pregnancy and abortion were constructed,and the alterations of ILC1s,miR-142-3p,ILC1 transcription factor(T-bet),and pro-inflammatory cytokines of ILC1s(TNF-α,IFN-γand IL-2)were detected in mice from different groups.The targeting regulation of HMGB1 by miR-142-3p in ILC1s,and the expression of HMGB1 in normal pregnant mice and abortive mice were investigated.In addition,the regulatory effects of miR-142-3p and HMGB1 on ILC1s were detected in vitro by CCK-8,Annexin-V/PI,EliSA,and RT-PCR,respectively.Furthermore,changes of the NF-κB signaling pathway in ILC1s were examined in the different groups.For the in vivo studies,miR-142-3p-Agomir was injected in the uterus of abortive mice to evaluate the abortion rate and alterations of ILC1s at the maternal-fetal interface,and further detect the expression of HMGB1,pro-inflammatory cytokines,and the NF-κB signaling pathway.Results The number of ILC1s was significantly increased,the level of HMGB1 was significantly upregulated,and that of miR-142-3p was considerably downregulated in the abortive mice as compared with the normal pregnant mice(all Pling pathway(Pling pathway was inhibited in the miR-142-3p Agomir group(all P<0.05).Conclusion miR-142-3p can regulate ILC1s by targeting HMGB1

Engineering single-atom Mn on nitrogen-doped carbon to regulate lithium-peroxide reaction kinetics for rechargeable lithium-oxygen batteries

Precision engineering of catalytic sites to guide more favorable pathways for li_(2)O_(2) nucleation and decom-position represents an enticing kinetic strategy for mitigating overpotential,enhancing discharge capac-ity,and improving recycling stability of li-O_(2) batteries.In this work,we employ metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)derivation and ion substitution strategies to construct atomically dispersed Mn-N_(4) moieties on hierarchical porous nitrogen-doped carbon(Mn SAs-NC)with the aim of reducing the over-potential and improving the cycling stability of li-O_(2) batteries.The porous structure provides more chan-nels for mass transfer and exposes more highly active sites for electrocatalytic reactions,thus promoting the formation and decomposition of li_(2)O_(2).The li-O_(2) batteries with Mn SAs-NC cathode achieve lower overpotential,higher specific capacity(14290 mA h g^(-1) at 100 mAg^(-1)),and superior cycle stability(>100 cycles at 200 mA g^(-1))compared with the Mn NPs-NC and NC.Density functional theory(DFT)cal-culations reveal that the construction of Mn-N_(4) moiety tunes the charge distribution of the pyridinic N-rich vacancy and balances the affinity of the intermediates(liO_(2) and li_(2)O_(2)).The initial nucleation of li_(2)O_(2) on Mn SAs-NC favors the O_(2)-→liO_(2)→li_(2)O_(2) surface-adsorption pathway,which mitigates the overpoten-tials of the oxygen reduction(ORR)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER).As a result,Mn SAs-NC with Mn-N_(4) moiety effectively facilitates the li_(2)O_(2) nucleation and enables its reversible decomposition.This work establishes a methodology for constructing carbon-based electrocatalysts with high activity and selectivity for li-O_(2)batteries.
