The hot deformation behavior of powder met- allurgical （PM） TiAI alloys was investigated on Gleeble- 3500 thermomechanical simulator, at a temperature range of 1050-1200 ℃ with an interval of 50℃ and a strain rate range of 0.001-1.000 s-1. The results show that the flow stress of PM TiAI alloy is sensitive to deformation tem- perature and strain rate, the peak stress decreases with the increase in deformation temperature and decrease in strain rate, and dynamic recrystallization occurs during the hot compression. The deformation active energy was calcu- lated and the flow stress model during high-temperature deformation was established based on the Arrhenius equations and Zener-Hollomon parameter. The deformed microstructure consists of refined homogeneous γ and α2/γ grains.

The sediment redox potential was raised in the laboratory to estimate reduction of internal available phosphorus loads,such as soluble reactive phosphorus(SRP)and total phosphorus(TP),as well as the main elements of sediment extracts in Dianchi *** strongly reducing substances in sediments,which mainly originated from anaerobic decomposition of primary producer residues,were responsible for the lower redox *** a range of -400 to 200 mV raising the redox potential of sediments decreased TP and SRP in interstitial *** potentials exceeding 320 mV caused increases in TP,whereas SRP maintained a relatively constant minimum *** concentrations of Al,Fe, Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+),K^+,Na^+ and S in interstitial water were also related to the redox potential of sediments,suggesting that the mechanism for redox potential to regulate the concentration of phosphorus in interstitial water was complex.

Climatology of Cloud-base Height from Long-term Radiosonde Measurements in China

Clouds are critical to the global radiation budget and hydrological cycle, but knowledge is still poor concerning the observed climatology of cloud-base height （CBH） in China. Based on fine-resolution sounding observations from the China Radiosonde Network （CRN）, the method used to estimate CBH was modified, and uncertainty analyses indicated that the CBH is good enough. The accuracy of CBH estimation is verified by the comparison between the sounding-derived CBHs and those estimated from the micro-pulse lidar and millimeter-wave cloud radar. As such, the CBH climatology was compiled for the period 2006-16. Overall, the CBH exhibits large geographic variability across China, at both 0800 Local Standard Time （LST） and 2000 LST, irrespective of season. In addition, the summertime cloud base tends to be elevated to higher altitudes in dry regions [i.e., Inner Mongolia and the North China Plain （NCP）]. By comparison, the Tibetan Plateau （TP）, Pearl River Delta （PRD） and Sichuan Basin （SCB） have relatively low CBHs （〈 2.4 km above ground level）. In terms of seasonality, the CBH reaches its maximum in summer and minimum in winter. A low cloud base tends to occur frequently （〉 70%） over the TP, PRD and SCB. In contrast, at most sites over the Yangtze River Delta （YRD） and the NCP, about half the cloud belongs to the high-cloud category. The CBH does not exhibit marked diurnal variation in summer, throughout all CRN sites, probably due to the persistent cloud coverage caused by the East Asia Summer Monsson. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first CBH climatology produced from sounding measurements in China, and provides a useful reference for obtaining observational cloud base information.

Many MXenes are efficient catalysts for MgH_(2)hydrogen storage ***,the synthesis of MXenes should consume a large amount of corrosive HF to etch out the Al layers from the transition metal aluminum carbides or nitrides(MAX) phases,which is environmentally *** this work,Ti_(3)AlCN MAX without HFetching was employed directly to observably enhance the kinetics and the cycling stability of MgH_(2).With addition of10 wt% Ti_(3)AlCN,the onset dehydrogenation temperature of MgH2 was dropped from 320 to 205℃,and the rehydrogenation of MgH2 under 6 MPa H2 began at as low as50℃.Furthermore,at 300℃,it could provide 6.2 wt% of hydrogen in 10 *** cycling,the composite underwent an activation process during the initial 40 cycles,with the reversible capacity increased from 4.7 wt% to 6.5 wt%.After that,the capacity showed almost no attenuation for up to 100 *** enhancing effect of Ti_(3)AICN on MgH_(2) was comparable to many *** was demonstrated that Ti_(3)AICN did not destabilize MgH_(2) but acted as an efficient catalyst for MgH_(2).Ti_(3)AICN was observed to be the active sites for the nucleation and growth of MgH_(2)and might also help in dissociation and recombination of hydrogen *** two factors are believed to contribute to the improvement of MgH_(2).This study not only provides a promising strategy for improving the hydrogen storage performances of MgH_(2) by using noncorrosive MAX materials,but also adds evidence of nucleation and growth of MgH_(2) on a catalyst.

Genetic dissection of crown root traits and their relationships with aboveground agronomic traits in maize

The crown root system is the most important root component in maize at both the vegetative and reproductive stages. However, the genetic basis of maize crown root traits(CRT) is still unclear, and the relationship between CRT and aboveground agronomic traits in maize is poorly understood. In this study, an association panel including 531 elite maize inbred lines was planted to phenotype the CRT and aboveground agronomic traits in different field environments. We found that root traits were significantly and positively correlated with most aboveground agronomic traits, including flowering time, plant architecture and grain yield. Using a genome-wide association study(GWAS)coupled with resequencing, a total of 115 associated loci and 22 high-confidence candidate genes were identified for CRT. Approximately one-third of the genetic variation in crown root was co-located with 46 QTLs derived from flowering and plant architecture. Furthermore, 103 (89.6%) of 115 crown root loci were located within known domestication-and/or improvement-selective sweeps, suggesting that crown roots might experience indirect selection in maize during domestication and improvement. Furthermore, the expression of Zm00001d036901, a high-confidence candidate gene, may contribute to the phenotypic variation in maize crown roots, and Zm00001d036901 was selected during the domestication and improvement of maize. This study promotes our understanding of the genetic basis of root architecture and provides resources for genomics-enabled improvements in maize root architecture.
