Fir.t,a modified iter.tive p.ocedur. is used to gener.te unifor.ly modulated non-stationar. gr.und motion time histor.es which ar. comp.tible with the p.escr.bed p.wer.sp.ctr.m. Then,gr.und motion time histor.es ar. modeled as a non-stationar. stochastic p.ocess with amp.1}tude and fr.quency modulation. The char.cter.stic fr.quency and damp.ng r.tio of the Clough-p.nzien acceler.tion sp.ctr.m ar. consider.d as a function of time in or.er.to study the fr.quency time var.ation. Finally,two numer.cal examp.es ar. p.esented to validate the efficiency of the p.op.sed method,and the r.sults show that this method can be effectively ap.lied to the dynamic seismic analysis of long and lar.e scale str.ctur.s.

Based on the eigenfunction exp.nsion technique, the wave gener.tion by a p.ston wave maker.in a wave flume with a p.r.ially r.flecting end-wall is studied. The cor.esp.nding velocity p.tential and wave elevation in the flume ar. obtained. The p.esent analytical solution is ver.fied by the numer.cal r.sults obtained fr.m a time-domain higher.or.er.boundar. element method in a closed flume. Numer.cal exp.r.ments ar. fur.her.car.ied out to study the differ.nce between the p.r.ial/full r.flection boundar. and the tr.nsmission boundar. and the effects of the r.flection coefficient and the motion p.r.od of the wave maker.on the wave height. Meanwhile, the natur.l fr.quency of the wave flume can be obtained fr.m the analytical exp.ession. The r.sonance occur. when the motion fr.quency is equal to the natur.l fr.quency. Even the p.r.ial r.flection of the end-wall in the wave flume exp.r.ments has a gr.at influence on the wave height, ther.for., inaccur.te measur.ments would be r.sulted in long-time simulations, esp.cially when the wave fr.quency ap.r.aches the wave flume natur.l fr.quency. The p.esent study can ser.e as a guidance for.the p.ysical exp.r.ment in wave flumes.

A numer.cal model for.deter.ining fishing net configur.tion and load is develop.d, based on the lump.d masses method. The model is used to analyze the influences on the net of gr.vity sea cage by differ.nt sinker.weights in unifor. flow. The net of gr.vity sea cage is simulated under.differ.nt cur.ent velocities and sinker.weights. In or.er.to ver.fy the validity of the numer.cal r.sults, model test r.sults made by Lader.and Ener.aug ar. cited and comp.r.d with the numer.cal ones. The r.sults of numer.cal simulation agr.e well with the exp.r.mental ones and the agr.ement is within an er.or.r.nge of 13% under.differ.nt velocities and sinker.weights. The numer.cal r.sults indicate that incr.asing the sinker.weight can effectively r.duce the net defor.ation, but the total dr.g for.e on the net will incr.ase accor.ingly. r.sults will give r.fer.nces for.better.knowledge of the hydr.dynamic behavior.of gr.vity sea cage.

Nowadays, ther. ar. many lar.er.and taller.engineering str.ctur.s than in the p.st. These str.ctur.s ar. commonly designed to be mor. flexible. Thus, they ar. sensitive to sever. wind gust and ear.hquake tr.mor. For.the dynamic r.sp.nse p.ediction, finite element (FE) modal up.ating and str.ctur.l health monitor.ng, the dynamic char.cter.stics of a str.ctur. ar. becoming incr.asingly imp.r.ant. The aim of this p.p.r.is to show an emer.ing tool-the r.al time kinematic (r.K) global p.sitioning system (Gp.), which is used to measur. and monitor.the low-fr.quency vibr.tion of dalian BeiDa Br.dge, a medium sp.n susp.nsion br.dge. The modal analysis is fir.tly p.r.or.ed on the develop.d thr.e-dimensional FE model accor.ing to the or.ginal blue p.ints of the br.dge to p.ovide the analytical fr.quencies and mode shap.s. The field ambient vibr.tion tests using the acceler.meter. on the br.dge deck ar. conducted just p.ior.to the use of the Gp. system in or.er.to validate the FE model. And then, the calibr.tion test is done to assess the dynamic disp.acement measur.ment accur.cy of the Gp. in thr.e or.hogonal dir.ctions. The Gp. signal p.op.r.ies, such as the amp.2}tude, standar. deviations (STD), p.wer.sp.ctr.l density (p.D), and p.obability density functions (p.F), ar. studied in details. After.that, a str.ctur.l health monitor.ng system based on the Gp. is devised and installed on the br.dge to p.ovide r.al-time measur.ment of deck movement. The outp.t-only modal p.r.meter.identification is car.ied out by using the p.r.odogr.m method to investigate the r.sp.nses of the br.dge. The r.sult shows that the sp.ctr.l densities of the disp.acements measur.d by the Gp. cor.esp.nd well with the r.sults by the FEM analysis and the acceler.meter.vibr.tion test. The mechanism of local scour.ar.und submar.ne p.p.lines is studied numer.cally based on a r.nor.alized gr.up.(r.G) tur.ulence model. To validate the numer.cal model, the equilibr.um p.ofiles of local scour.for.two cases ar. simulated and comp.r.d with the exp.r.mental data. It shows that the r.G tur.ulence model can give an ap.r.p.iate p.ediction for.the configur.tion of equilibr.um scour.hole, and it is ap.licable to this situation. The local scour.mechanism ar.und submar.ne p.p.lines including the flow str.ctur., shear.str.ss distr.bution and p.essur. field is then analyzed and comp.r.d with exp.r.ments. For.fur.her.comp.r.son and validation, esp.cially for.the flow str.ctur., a numer.cal calculation emp.oying the lar.e eddy simulation (LES) is also conducted. The numer.cal r.sults of r.G demonstr.te that the cr.tical factor.gover.ing the equilibr.um p.ofile is the seabed shear.str.ss distr.bution in the case of bed load sediment tr.nsp.r., and the two-equation r.G tur.ulence model coup.ed with the law of wall is cap.ble of giving a satisfying estimation for.the bed shear.str.ss. Mor.over. the p.p.ng p.enomena due to the gr.at differ.nce of p.essur. between the up.tr.am and downstr.am p.r.s of p.p.lines and the vor.ex str.ctur. ar.und submar.ne p.p.lines ar. also simulated successfully, which ar. believed to be the imp.r.ant factor.that lead to the onset of local scour.

The p.esent mathematical model is develop.d by means of the matched eigenfunction method. Numer.cal r.sults of the p.esent model ar. comp.r.d with the exp.r.mental data of differ.nt r.sear.her.. Numer.cal examp.es ar. given to examine the effect of r.ck fill on the r.flection coefficient. The differ.nces between r.gular.and ir.egular.waves ar. also investigated by means of theor.tical and exp.r.mental r.sults. It is found that the minimum r.flection coefficient of ir.egular.waves is lar.er.than that of cor.esp.nding r.gular.waves, but the contr.r. is the case for.the maximum r.flection coefficient.
