Effects of Shengjiangxiexin decoction on irinotecan-induced toxicity in patients with UGT1A1*28 and UGT1A1*6 polymorphisms

OBJECTIVE：To evaluate the efficacy of Shengjiangxiexin decoction （SXD）, prepared with a formula from Traditional Chinese Medicine （TCM）, in reducing irinotecan-induced hematological and gastrointestinal toxicities in patients with UDP-glucuro-nosyltransferase （tJGT）1A1＊28 and UGTIA1＊6 poly-morphisms. METHODS： This clinical trial included 115 patients receiving irinotecan combined with 5-fluorouracil plus I-leucovorin （FOLFIRI） treatment. All patients consented to UGT1A1＊28 and ＊6 gene polymorphism detection prior to chemotherapy. SXD were administered from 1 day prior to chemotherapy to 6 day post chemotherapy. Chemotherapy induced adverse reactions （neutropenia, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, anorexia and infection） were recorded, and short-term effect of chemotherapy was evaluated regularly. RESULTS： A total of 50 patients had ＊1/＊1 wild gen-otype, 58 patients had single allele variants with genotype ＊1/＊6 or ＊/＊28, and 7 patients had two alleles variants with genotype ＊6/＊6, ＊28/＊28 or ＊6/＊ 28. In ＊1/＊6 or ＊1/＊28 patients （high risk group）, 9 patients （15.5%） developed Ⅰ-Ⅱ grade diarrhea and no patient developed severe diarrhea; neutro-penia occurred in 19 patients （32.8%） and only 3 patients （8.6%） developed sever neutropenia. There were no significant differences in any toxic effects （neutropenia, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, anorexia or infection） between ＊6 or ＊28 variant patients （high risk group） and wild type patients. No sever toxicity was found in high risk two alleles variants patients （＊6/＊6, ＊6/＊28 or ＊28/＊28）. No significant differences were observed between UGTIA1＊6/＊28 polymorphisms and clinical response of chemotherapy. CONCLUSION： SXD could significantly reduce irinotecan-induced hematological and gastrointestinal toxicities in UGT1A1＊28 or ＊6 variant patients （high risk group）, while this treatment didn＇t affect clinical response of chemotherapy.

Perovskite oxides with diverse composition and structure have exhibited grand advances in boosting the oxygen reduction and evolution reaction(ORR/OER),which are essential for the reversible protonic ceramic electrochemical cell(R-PCEC)toward the sustainable hydrogen production and ***,enhancement of their activity and stability remains ***,we develop the Ta-regulated BaCo_(0.7)Fe_(0.3)O_(3-δ)perovskite oxygen electrode(Ba(Co_(0.7)Fe_(0.3))_(1-x)Ta_xO_(3-δ))with abundant oxygen defects and achieve the simultaneous enhancement in the electrocatalytic activity and stability toward ORR and ***-fabricated R-PCEC with(Ba(Co_(0.7)Fe_(0.3))_(0.9)Ta_(0.1)O_(3-δ))(BCFT10)oxygen electrode performs high power density of 1.47 W·cm^(-2)at 650℃in fuel cell mode,and the current density is up to-2.11 A·cm^(-2)at 1.4 V at 650℃in electrolysis mode,as well as the good stability in both the fuel cell and electrolysis ***,the cell also demonstrates a stable cycling operation between fuel cell and electrolysis mode,suggesting a great potential of BCFT10 as oxygen electrode material for R-PCECs.

Enhancing the catalytic efficiency of the Heck coupling reaction by forming 5 nm Pd octahedrons using kinetic control

Heterogeneous catalysis occurs through a process of interfacial reactions; therefore, both surface facet and size control can increase catalytic efficiency. Octahedral Pd nanocrystals, enclosed by {111} facets, should be the ideal geometrical shape for Heck coupling reactions; however, it is challenging to synthesize 5 nm Pd octahedrons with a relatively uniform size distribution using existing capping-agent techniques. Here, we used palladium as a model system to investigate how the kinetics of atomic addition could be precisely controlled using a syringe pump. As a result, our method produced Pd octahedrons as small as 5 nm, which increased the catalytic efficiency of Heck coupling reactions while reducing the weight of catalyst used.

Background:The aim of the study was to compare the dynamic defocus curve on patients post-implantation of the extended depth-of-focus(EDOF)and monofocal intraocular lens(IOL).Methods:A total of 62 age-related cataract patients receiving phacoemulsification with implantation of TECNIS Symfony(ZXRoO)or monofocal IOLs were *** binocular static and dynamic defocus curves with corrected distance visual acuity were evaluated at one month ***:The ZXR00 group achieved signifcantly better intermediate(P=0.044)and near(P=0.017)visual acuity(VA)than the monofocal *** groups had similar uncorrected and corrected distance VA(P>0.05,respectively).The dynamic defocus curve revealed a smoother decline from 0.0 D to-2.0 D in the ZXRo0 *** dynamic VA in the ZXR00 group was significantly better(Plinear regression analysis indicated that defocused static VA and cor-rected dynamic vision accommodation were significant influential factors for the defocused dynamic VA from-1.0 D to-3.0 D(Plied to evaluate the all-distance dynamic visual performance post-cataract surgery.

Effects of Land Use on Heavy Metal Accumulation in Soils and Sources Analysis

Heavy metal accumulation and its influential factors were studied in the different land use soils, which would provide a theoretical basis for controlling the content of heavy metals in soils. To identify the effects of land use on the accumulation of heavy metals in soils, 148 soil samples were collected from four land use patterns including greenhouse field, uncovered vegetable field, maize field, and forest field in Siping area of Jilin Province, China, and Cr, Ni, Cu, As, Cd, Pb, and Zn contents of those samples were determined with ICP and ICP-Mass. The result showed that there was a rather large difference in effects of the accumulation of Cr, Ni, Cu, As, Cd, and Zn in soils under different land use patterns, except Pb. Based on the assessment which compared with background concentrations in soil, the higher accumulation of heavy metals was found in greenhouse and uncovered vegetable field, much less in maize field and forest field. The mean contents of heavy metals in soils from high to low were arranged in order of greenhouse field, uncovered vegetable field, maize field, and forest field. Cd and Cu had relatively serious accumulation in soils compared to Cr, Ni, As, and Zn. The mean content of Cd in greenhouse field was 0.467 mg kg-x,which exceeded the grade II of the Chinese Soil Quality Criterion GB15618-1995 （6.5 〈pH〈7.5） for Cd standard of 0.3 mg kg^-1, while it was 5.2 times of Cd standard in the forest fields. The mean contents ofCr, Ni, Cu, As, Pb, and Zn in soils under four land use patterns were lower than the grade II of the Chinese Soil Quality Criterion. Compared with the soil cultivated years, the agricultural chemical compounds and manures application, especially the quality and quantity of applied fertilizer was one of the main reasons for leading to different accumulation of heavy metals in soils under the studied land use patterns. Solitary schwannoma of the gallbladder: A case report and literature review

Schwannomas occurring in the gallbladder are extremely rare. Preoperative diagnosis of gallbladder schwannomas appears to be very difficult because they are normally asymptomatic and are often found incidentally. Until now, only five cases have been reported in the literature. To our knowledge, the contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) features of gallbladder schwannomas have not been reported before in other studies. We treated a 55-year-old male patient with gallbladder schwannoma in China. He had no symptoms, and the lesion was incidentally found by conventional ultrasound (US) when performing a health examination. The patient had normal liver function; moreover, serum carcinoembryonic antigen and alpha-fetoprotein were within the normal ranges. The lesion showed no blood flow signals on color Doppler US, and the wall beneath the lesion was intact on CEUS. The lesion was believed to be a benign entity; in addition, gallbladder adenomyomatosis was suspected. A laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed to remove the mass. Pathological examination revealed that the tumor was mainly composed of spindle-shaped cells; neither atypical cells nor signs of malignancy were found. Immunohistochemical staining showed a strong positive S-100 protein reaction. Vimentin and CD56 staining were also positive, whereas CD34 and CD117 were negative. Finally, the lesion was diagnosed as schwannoma. Herein, we report the case; the associated literature is also reviewed. (C) 2014 Baishideng Publishing Group Inc. All rights reserved.

Phase-transfer interface promoted corrosion from PtNi10 nanoctahedra to Pt4Ni nanoframes

A novel two-phase approach towards the corrosion of PtNil0 nanoctahedra has been developed. In this strategy, the active component of Ni in oil-soluble PtNil0 nanoctahedra which resided in the upper toluene phase, suffered from etching and was then transferred into a lower aqueous phase with coordination by ethylenediaminetetraacetate （EDTA）. Due to the existence of the phase-transfer interface promoted by EDTA, the corrosion reaction proceeded at an accelerated rate under the mild conditions. Specifically, the resultant products of octahedral Pt4Ni nanoframes were successfully fabricated for the first time, and PtNi4 porous octahedra could be obtained when the dosage of EDTA-2Na was reduced. After a systematic study of this two-phase system, a ＂synergetic corrosion＂ mechanism is proposed to account for the formation of octahedral Pt4Ni nanoframes, involving contributions from many species （i.e., O2, H2O, H＋, OAm, and EDTA^4-）. As a result of the fascinating three-dimensional geometry of Pt4Ni nanoframes and PtNi4 porous octahedra, both of the corroded nanocrystals showed superior activity over the pristine PtNi^o nanoctahedra for ethanol electrooxidation in alkaline media and hydrogenation of nitrobenzene.
