Removal of veterinary antibiotics from anaerobically digested swine wastewater using an intermittently aerated sequencing batch reactor

A lab-scale intermittently aerated sequencing batch reactor（IASBR）was applied to treat anaerobically digested swine wastewater（ADSW）to explore the removal characteristics of veterinary *** removal rates of 11 veterinary antibiotics in the reactor were investigated under different chemical organic demand（COD）volumetric loadings,solid retention times（SRT）and ratios of COD to total nitrogen（TN）or COD/*** sludge sorption and biodegradation were found to be the major contributors to the removal of veterinary *** balance analysis revealed that greater than 60%of antibiotics in the influent were biodegraded in the IASBR,whereas averagely 24%were adsorbed by sludge under the condition that sludge sorption gradually reached its *** showed that the removal of antibiotics was greatly influenced by chemical oxygen demand（COD）volumetric loadings,which could achieve up to 85.1%±1.4%at 0.17±0.041 kg COD/m-3/day,while dropped to 75.9%±1.3%and 49.3%±12.1%when COD volumetric loading increased to 0.65±0.032 and1.07±0.073 kg COD/m-3/day,***,the dominant antibiotics in ADSW,were removed by 87.9%in total at the lowest COD loading,of which 30.4%were contributed by sludge sorption and 57.5%by biodegradation,*** contrast,sulfonamides were removed about 96.2%,almost by *** SRT seemed to have little obvious impact on antibiotics removal,while a shorter SRT of 30–40 day could reduce the accumulated amount of antibiotics and the balanced antibiotics sorption capacity of *** COD/TN ratio was found not a key impact factor for veterinary antibiotics removal in this work.

Crystal orientation and morphology of a lamellae in wrought titanium alloys: On the role of microstructure evolution in b processing

To obtain high-quality aviation forgings of titanium alloys, b forging is an essential processing step which must be considered throughout a production process. In this work, the effect of b forging on the crystal orientation and morphology of lamellar a was experimentally investigated in a two-phase titanium alloy. Strong dynamic recovery during b working resulted in the formation of low-angle grain boundary(LAGBb) inside b grains. The lamellar a can penetrate through the LAGBb, leading to similar intra a LAGBs on subgrain boundaries. Deformation banding occurs at high strain rates, and both diffusive and sharp boundaries of deformation bands can be observed.A continuous change of the b orientation in diffusive boundaries results in the formation of fine and disordered a lamellae without intra-lamellar boundary to hold the Burgers orientation relationship(OR). On sharp boundaries, it is prone to producing continuous grain boundary a(aGB) with a highly similar orientation along the boundaries. Meanwhile, there may exist several lower-angle boundaries within the grain boundary a for a smoother orientation change on the b grain boundary.

ST13,a proliferation regulator,inhibits growth and migration of colorectal cancer cell lines

Background and objective:ST13, is the gene encoding the HSP70 interacting protein (HIP). Previous research has shown that ST13 mRNA and protein levels are down-regulated in colorectal cancer (CRC) tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues. This study aims at the role of ST13 in the proliferation and migration of CRC cells. Methods:The transcript level of ST13 in different CRC cell lines was evaluated by quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). ST13-overexpressed and ST13-knockdown CRC cells were constructed respectively by lentiviral transduction, followed by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, plate colony formation, cell-cycle analysis, and migration assays to evaluate the influence of ST13 on proliferation and migration in vitro. Moreover, a mouse xenograft study was performed to test in vivo tumorigenicity of ST13-knockdown CRC cells. Results: Lentivirus-mediated overexpression of ST13 in CRC cells in-hibited cell proliferation, colony formation, and cell migration in vitro. In contrast, down-regulation of ST13 by lentiviral-based short hairpin RNA (shRNA) interference in CRC cells significantly increased cell proliferation and cloning efficiency in vitro. In addition, down-regulation of ST13 expression significantly increased the tumorigenicity of CRC cells in vivo. Conclusions:ST13 gene is a proliferation regulator that inhibits tumor growth in CRC and may affect cell migration.

Virtual sensing for gearbox condition monitoring based on kernel factor analysis

Vibration and oil debris analysis are widely used in gearbox condition monitoring as the typical indirect and direct sensing techniques. However, they have their own advantages and disadvantages. To better utilize the sensing information and overcome its shortcomings, this paper presents a virtual sensing technique based on artificial intelligence by fusing low-cost online vibration measurements to derive a gearbox condition indictor, and its performance is comparable to the costly offline oil debris measurements. Firstly, the representative features are extracted from the noisy vibration measurements to characterize the gearbox degradation conditions. However, the extracted features of high dimensionality present nonlinearity and uncertainty in the machinery degradation process. A new nonlinear feature selection and fusion method,named kernel factor analysis, is proposed to mitigate the aforementioned challenge. Then the virtual sensing model is constructed by incorporating the fused vibration features and offline oil debris measurements based on support vector regression. The developed virtual sensing technique is experimentally evaluated in spiral bevel gear wear tests,and the results show that the developed kernel factor analysis method outperforms the state-of-the-art featureselection techniques in terms of virtual sensing model accuracy.

Compounding soils to improve cropland quality:A study based on field experiments and model simulations in the loess hilly-gully region,China

In recent years,research has focused heavily on the investigation of functionalized ammonium polyphosphate(APP)flame retardants to improve the fire safety of epoxy resins(EP).The reason for this is the dual nature of APP's performance in fire protection of *** article provides a comprehensive overview of the advances in the use of functionalized APP flame retardants to improve the fire resistance of EP *** then presents the improvement of the modification of the functionalized APP flame retardants in terms of the hydrophobicity,compatibility and catalytic ability of the flame retardants,as well as the effects on the fire resistance,heat resistance,smoke reduction and mechanical properties of the EP *** the summary and comparison of the relevant studies,it is clear that the functionalized APP flame retardants can effectively improve the fire safety of EP composites and offset the adverse effects of APP in EP flame retardant *** addition,APP flame retardants can obtain various excellent functions through the use of materials with different properties,and the interaction between APP and materials can also lead to more efficient fire ***,the current problem is to find ways to streamline the process and minimise the costs associated with functionalized APP flame retardants,as well as to use them effectively in industrial *** hope that this review can provide valuable hints and insights for the practical application of functionalized APP in EP and perspectives for future research.

Comprehensive Evaluation of OxyCup Process for Steelmaking Dust Treatment Based on Calculation of Mass Balance and Heat Balance

Through the mass balance and thermal balance calculation for a typical OxyCup （or OxiCup） furnace process featuring a capacity of 380 kt/a of steel plant residuMs, the material flow and thermal flow diagrams were firstly obtained. Then, the performance of the main fuel in the OxyCup process, i.e. coke and carbon dust, was ana lyzed, and the results indicated that coke was mainly used as the stock column skeleton for the furnace and exothermal agent with a weak reduction ability; whereas carbon dust was mixed in the C-brick to reduce the iron oxide. In addition, the comparison between OxyCup process and traditional blast furnace process indicated that the reduction and melting processes in the OxyCup process were relatively isolated, while in the traditional blast furnace process, they were mixed with each other in the high temperature zone. Moreover, oxidizing atmosphere is necessary in part of the OxyCup furnaces to ensure the complete combustion of part of the coke, while only reducing atmosphere is al lowed in traditional blast furnaces. Finally, it was confirmed that oxygen enrichment can make a remarkable increase of the energy income and high temperature blast makes oMy a small contribution to energy income as the energy from the combustion of carbon takes up nearly 90% of the total income.
