Well-preserved graptolites of the genus Kiaerograptus are first reported from the upper Tremadocian Yinchupu Formation in the Nanba section,Yiyang,Hunan Province,South China,including four species,i.e.,Kiaerograptus lauzonensis(Erdtmann,1966),Kiaerograptus stoermeri(Erdtmann,1965),Kiaerograptus cf.supremus?lindholm,1991,and Kiaerograptus sp.,which are robust in form.Based on these new specimens,the Kiaerograptus biozone is established for the first time in South China,increasing the late Tremadoc graptolite biozones in South China from four to five,in ascending order as follows:the Adelograptus tenellus biozone,the Aorograptus victoriae biozone,the Kiaerograptus biozone,the Sagenograptus murrayi biozone,and the Hunnegraptus copiosus biozone.A review of the occurrence records for robust Kiaerograptus species worldwide reveals that the distribution is restricted to the Aorograptus victoriae biozone and Kiaerograptus biozone in the late Tremadocian.This limited stratigraphical distribution makes Kiaerograptus a valuable taxon for precise biostratigraphical correlation at both the regional and global scales.

Numerical simulation of Marangoni effect induced by species transfer across iron droplet–molten slag interface

A mathematical model accounting for unsteady mass transfer across interface of a stationary iron droplet immersed into molten slag was established through the volume of fluid coupled with level set method.The Marangoni effect induced by mass transfer was reproduced successfully,and the hydrodynamic instability phenomena at the interface,such as the Marangoni convection flow,the evolution of the interfacial tension during the mass transfer,and the influence of Marangoni effect on the mass transfer rate,were revealed.The results show that the Marangoni convection flow develops quickly and behaves as an ordered structure in the forms of four pairs of the convection cell at the edge of the droplet once the oxygen transfer across the interface starts.The average convection flow velocity along the interface is high,even more than 0.025 m/s,depending on the droplet diameter,which facilitates the mass transfer.The Marangoni convection flow of the large droplet develops more easily than that of the small droplet,and the larger the droplet diameter is,the higher the convection flow velocity and the mass transfer rate are.Moreover,it is shown that the droplet diameter influences the impacting region of the Marangoni convection flow and its duration period.

Unsupervised domain adaptation(UDA) aims to transfer the knowledge from a label-rich source domain to an unlabeled target domain. Current approaches mainly focus on aligning the target domain’s data distribution with the source domain, but lacking attention to allowing target data to guide which features need to be captured. Source data dominates feature extraction. As a result, target embedding would lose some vital discriminative features and limit UDA in complex tasks. In this paper, we argue that utilizing auxiliary tasks to capture target-intrinsic patterns, which do not depend on source supervision, could further enhance UDA. Multiple auxiliary tasks understand the instance concept from different perspectives.Our findings show that exploiting the conceptual consistency of multiple auxiliary tasks to characterize the common part of these various understandings should reveal the target’s hidden ground truth. Furthermore, we propose a novel method named multiple self-supervision conceptual consistency domain adaptation(MSCC). Experiments and analysis on benchmark datasets show the effectiveness of our idea and method.

Quantum entanglement generation on magnons assisted with microwave cavities coupled to a superconducting qubit

We present protocols to generate quantum entanglement on nonlocal magnons in hybrid systems composed of yttrium iron garnet(YIG)spheres,microwave cavities and a superconducting(SC)qubit.In the schemes,the YIGs are coupled to respective microwave cavities in resonant way,and the SC qubit is placed at the center of the cavities,which interacts with the cavities simultaneously.By exchanging the virtual photon,the cavities can indirectly interact in the far-detuning regime.Detailed protocols are presented to establish entanglement for two,three and arbitrary N magnons with reasonable fidelities.

Minimum-energy formation achievement problems for networked multiagent systems are investigated,where information networks with leaderless and leader-follower structures are respectively addressed and information networks are randomly switching.The critical feature of this work is that the energy constraint is minimum in the sense of the linear matrix inequality,but limited-budget control and guaranteed-cost control cannot realize a minimum-energy formation.Firstly,the leaderless minimum-energy formation control problem is converted into an asymp-totic stability one via a nonsingular transformation and state space decomposition,and based on linear matrix inequality techniques,sufficient conditions for analysis and design of leaderless minimum-energy formation achievement are proposed,respectively,which can be solved by the generalized eigenvalue method.Then,main results of minimum-energy formation achievement of leaderless networked multiagent systems are extended leader-follower networked multiagent systems,where the asymmetric property of the leader-follower information network is well dealt with by two nonsingular transformations.Finally,two simulation examples are shown to verify the main results for minimum-energy formation achievements of leaderless and leader-follower networked multiagent systems,respectively.

BACKGROUND Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis(PAP)and X-linked agammaglobulinemia(XLA)are rare diseases in children.Many theories infer that immunodeficiency can induce PAP,but these reports are almost all review articles,and there is little clinical evidence.We report the case of a child with both PAP and XLA.CASE SUMMARY A 4-month-old boy sought medical treatment due to coughing and difficulty in breathing for>2 wk.He had been hospitalized multiple times due to respiratory infections and diarrhea.Chest computed tomography and alveolar lavage fluid showed typical PAP-related manifestations.Genetic testing confirmed that the boy also had XLA.Following total lung alveolar lavage and intravenous immunoglobulin replacement therapy,the boy recovered and was discharged.During the follow-up period,the number of respiratory infections was significantly reduced,and PAP did not recur.CONCLUSION XLA can induce PAP and improving immune function contributes to the prognosis of children with this type of PAP.

Molecular and functional characterization of three novel carboxylesterases in the detoxification of permethrin in the mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus

Carboxylesterases (CarEs) belong to a super family of multifunctional enzymes associated with the degradation of endogenous and exogenous compounds. Many insect CarEs are known to play important roles in catalyzing the hydrolysis of organophosphates (OPs), carbamates, and synthetic pyrethroids (SPs). The elevation of esterase activity through gene amplification and overexpression of estα2 and estβ2 genes contributes to the development of resistance to OP insecticides in the mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus. Three additional CarE genes are upregulated in permethrin-resistant Cx. quinquefasciatus according to an RNA-seq analysis, but their function remains unknown. In this study, we, for the first time, characterized the function of these three novel genes using in vitro protein expression, an insecticide metabolism study and molecular docking analysis. All three CarE genes were significantly overexpressed in resistant mosquito larvae, but not adults, compared to susceptible strain. No gene copy differences in these three genes were found in the mosquitoes tested. In vitro high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) revealed that CPIJ018231, CPIJ018232, and CPIJ018233 metabolized 30.4% ± 2.9%, 34.7% ± 6.8%, and 23.2% ± 2.2% of the permethrin, respectively. No mutations in resistant strains might significantly affect their CarE hydrolysis ability. A docking analysis further confirmed that these three CarEs from resistant strain all potentially metabolize permethrin. Taken together, these three carboxylesterase genes could play important roles in the development of permethrin resistance in Cx. quinquefasciatus larvae through transcriptional overexpression, metabolism, and detoxification.
