Interactive Design of Cubic IPH Spline Curves

Indirect Pythagorean hodographs(IPH)spline curves are a set of curves which have rational Pythagorean hodographs after reparameterization by a fractional quadratic transformation.In this paper,the authors provide an algorithm to interactively design a cubic IPH spline curve from any given control polygon.The method has the same friendly interface and properties as those for B-splines,meanwhile facilitates intuitive and efficient construction of open and closed IPH spline curves.The key idea is to solve the ratios of a set of auxiliary points associated with the edges and then construct a piecewise cubic IPH spline curve which has as high as possible continuity,i.e.,the absolute curvature value of the adjacent curve segments are the same.A very interesting observation is that for any open control polygon,a quadratic B-spline curve can have continuous absolute curvature by carefully choosing the knots as the function of the control points.

Homocysteine(Hcy)is a sulfur-containing amino acid derived from the essential amino acid methionine(Met).Circulating levels of Hcy in animals can be increased by feeding on Met-enriched diets,which is generally considered harmful.Spiders are one of the largest groups of obligate carnivores and feed on animals high in protein and Met.We analyzed the Hcy metabolism pathways in 18 species of 3 taxa(Mammalia,Insecta,and Arachnida)and found that the betaine-dependent remethylation pathway(BRP)was present in all carnivorous arachnid species and mammals but absent in insects and red spider mites.We then studied the Hcy metabolism pathway in Pardosa pseudoannulata.In P.pseudoannulata,Hcy is metabolized through the transsulfuration pathway,BRP,and S-methylmethionine-dependent remethylation pathway.Because of a prior duplication event of the betaine homocysteine S-methyltransferase(BHMT)gene in the BRP,BHMTa and BHMTb are present in tandem in the genome of P.pseudoannulata.The high expression levels of BHMTa and its high abundance in detoxification tissues indicate that it plays an important role in the BRP;the ability of BHMTa and BHMTb to remethylate Hcy using betaine as substrate was similar.Compared with other Hcy metabolic enzyme genes,BHMT responded quickly to the application of Hcy or betaine.In sum,the BRP is important in Hcy metabolism in P.pseudoannulata and in other spider species.

Multi-Traffic Targets Tracking Based on an Improved Structural Sparse Representation with Spatial-Temporal Constraint

Vehicles or pedestrians tracking is an important task in intelligent transportation system. In this paper, we propose an online multi-object tracking for intelligent traffic platform that employs improved sparse representation and structural constraint. We first build the spatial-temporal constraint via the geometric relations and appearance of tracked objects, then we construct a robust appearance model by incorporating the discriminative sparse representation with weight constraint and local sparse appearance with occlusion analysis. Finally, we complete data association by using maximum a posteriori in a Bayesian framework in the pursuit for the optimal detection estimation. Experimental results in two challenging vehicle tracking benchmark datasets show that the proposed method has a good tracking performance.

In this study,a systematic refinement method was developed for non-uniform Catmull-Clark subdivision surfaces to improve the quality of the surface at extraordinary points(EPs).The developed method modifies the eigenpolyhedron by designing the angles between two adjacent edges that contain an EP.Refinement rules are then formulated with the help of the modified eigenpolyhedron.Numerical experiments show that the method significantly improves the performance of the subdivision surface for non-uniform parameterization.

Functional proteins are the most versatile macromolecules.They can be obtained by extraction from natural sources or by genetic engineering technologies.The outstanding selectivity,specificity,binding activity,and biocompatibility endow engineered proteins with outstanding performance for disease therapy.Nevertheless,their stability is dramatically impaired in blood circulation,hindering clinical translations.Thus,many strategies have been developed to improve the stability,efficacy,bioavailability,and productivity of therapeutic proteins for clinical applications.In this review,we summarize the recent progress in the fabrication and application of therapeutic proteins.We first introduce various strategies for improving therapeutic efficacy via bioengineering and nanoassembly.Furthermore,we highlight their diverse applications as growth factors,nanovaccines,antibody-based drugs,bioimaging molecules,and cytokine receptor antagonists.Finally,a summary and perspective for the future development of therapeutic proteins are presented.

Stroke is a devastating disease with high morbidity and mortality.Animal models are indispensable tools that can mimic stroke processes and can be used for investigating mechanisms and developing novel therapeutic regimens.As a heterogeneous disease with complex pathophysiology,mimicking all aspects of human stroke in one animal model is impossible.Each model has unique strengths and weaknesses.Models such as transient or permanent intraluminal thread occlusion middle cerebral artery oc-clusion(MCAo)models and thromboembolic models are the most commonly used in simulating human ischemic stroke.The endovascular filament occlusion model is characterized by easy manipulation and accurately controllable reperfusion and is suitable for studying the pathogenesis of focal ischemic stroke and reperfusion in-jury.Although the reproducibility of the embolic model is poor,it is more conveni-ent for investigating thrombolysis.Rats are the most frequently used animal model for stroke.This review mainly outlines the stroke models of rats and discusses their strengths and shortcomings in detail.

Highly stable and efficient bifunctional air cathode catalyst is crucial to rechargeable metal-air batteries.Herein,a ternary nanoalloy layer composed of noble and base metal coated on a three-dimensional porous Ni sponge as the bifunctional cathode is synthesized through in-situ anchoring strategy,which can effectively keep the multimetal nanoparticles from agglomeration and improve the density of active sites and catalytic activity.The prepared catalyst displays an excellent catalytic performance with lower overpotential and long-term stability.The Zn-air batteries with the as-prepared cathodes possess a large power density of 170 mW/cm2,long cycling stability up to 230 cycles,and a high specific capacity of 771 mA h/g.Furthermore,the corresponding li-air batteries deliver a discharge capacity of 22429 mA h/g.These superior properties of the metal-air batteries can be attributed to the combined influence of design and composition of electrode,which is of great significance to improve the electrochemical catalytic activity,providing great potential of wide application in expanded rechargeable energy systems.

In the ever-evolving landscape of cancer research and treatment,the quest for novel and non-invasive imaging techniques has become crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective therapy.This study[1]successfully developed a good manufacturing practices(GMP)grade ^(89)Zr-labeled anti-Claudin18.2(CLDN18.2)recombinant humanized antibody TST001.^(89)Zr-DFO-TST001 exhibited high radiochemical purity(>99%)and specific activity(24.15±1.34 GBq/mmol).It demonstrated good specificity and rapid tumor accumulation in vivo and in vivo.Through immuno-PET imaging,it enables non-invasive visualization and quantification of CLDN18.2 expression level in CLDN18.2-positive gastrointestinal tumor models.

The data and time complexities are about 2;chosen plaintexts and2;24-round encryptions respectively.
