AIM： To compare the clinical characteristics of infectious keratopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus（T2DM） and nondiabetes mellitus（NDM） and to investigate risk factors for infectious keratopathy in T2DM patients. METHODS： Totally 230 patients with T2DM and 168 with NDM diagnosed as infectious keratopathy were hospitalized at Qingdao Eye Hospital from 2001 to 2015. Data including sex, age, occupation, season, smoking and alcohol consumption habits, duration between onset and treatments, duration of hospitalization were collected. Initially identified indicators were analyzed with a multivariate logistic regression. Glycosylated hemoglobin A1 c（Hb A1 c） in patients with T2DM was analyzed. The infectious keratopathies in the two groups were categorized and ***： The diabetic group consisted of 146（63.5%） males and 84（36.5%） females. The NDM group consisted of 111（66.1%） males and 57（33.9%） females. There was no signigicantly difference in sex distribution between the two groups（P〉0.05）. There were significant differences in age, occupation of patients, season of the onset of diseases, duration between onset and treatment, and durations of hospitalization between the two groups（P〈0.05）. In most of the patients in the diabetic group, the duration between onsetand treatment was ≤3 mo, and most was ≥3 mo in the NDM group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age and season were related to the development of corneal infection in the T2DM group（OR=1.709, 1.706）. In the T2DM group, Hb A1 c was 9.09%±2.12%. There were statistically significant differences in the incidences of bacterial keratitis and herpes simplex keratitis in the two groups（P〈0.05）, but no significant statistical difference was found between fungal keratitis and amoebic keratitis（P〉0.05）. CONCLUSION： Advanced age and the summer and winter seasons are identified as risk factors for infectious keratopathy in T2DM patients, and T2DM patients are more prone to bacterial keratitis.

First multi-wavelength photometric light curves(LCs)of the short-period eclipsing binary(EB)1 SWASP J034439.97+030425.5(hereafter J0344)are presented and analyzed by using the 2013 version of the Wilson-Devinney(W-D)*** explain the asymmetric LCs of J0344,a cool star-spot on the less massive component was *** photometric solutions suggest that J0344 is a W-subtype shallow contact EB with a contact degree of f=4.9%±3.0%and a mass ratio of q=2.456±***,an obvious third light was detected in our *** calculated the average luminosity contribution of the third light to the total light,and that value reaches up to 49.78%.Based on the O-C method,the variations of the orbital period were studied for the first *** O-C diagram reveals a secular decrease superimposed on a cyclic *** orbital period decreases at a rate of d P/dt=-6.07×10-7 d yr-1,which can be explained by the mass transfer from the more massive component to the less massive ***,its O-C diagram also shows a cyclic oscillation with an amplitude of 0.0030 d and a period about 7.08 yr,which can be explained by the presence of a third body with a minimum mass of M3 min=0.15±0.02 M⊙.The third component may play an important role in the formation and evolution of J0344 by drawing angular momentum from the central system.

Association between coronary artery calcification and cognitive function in a Chinese community-based population

Efficient CO_(2) electroreduction coupled with semi-dehydrogenation of tetrahydroisoquinoline by MOFs modified electrodes

Electroreduction of CO_(2) into formate catalyzed by metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) is a promising avenue to promote the carbon cycle,but the oxygen evolution reaction(OER) process in anode usually limited the reaction ***,a new framework {(Me_(2) NH_(2))[bi(L)]·4 DMF·2 H_(2) O}_n(V12) was constructed and structurally characterized(L=5,5'-(1,3,6,8-tetraoxo-1,3,6,8-tetrahydrobenzo [lmn][3,8]phenanthroline-2,7-diyl) dibenzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid;DMF=N,N-dimethylformamide).V12 possesses large one-dimensional channels with the size of 1.5 × 0.7 nm and exhibits good stability in common *** V12 was modified on electrode via electrodeposition,as-synthesized sample exhibits impressive catalytic performance for the transformation of CO_(2) into formate with Faraday efficiency of93.2% and current density of 11.78 mA cm^(-2) at-0.9 V(***).Control experiments revealed that the MOFs electrodeposition strategy significantly improves the charge transfer rate and introduces more structural defects,which promotes the reaction ***,tetra hydroisoquinoline is added as an accelerant in the anode to achieve the simultaneous generation of formate and *** importantly,the cell voltage is reduced from 2.79 to 2.52 V at 10 mA cm^(-2) in a two-electrode system due to more positive reaction *** work provides an enlightening strategy for using MOFs to establish an effective system to achieve CO_(2) reduction while obtaining high value-added oxidation products.

Pear Blossom Blast Caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae in China

This study was done to determine the causal organism of the pear blossom and bud blast in China. It was identified by a bacteriological test, electro-microscopic observation, Koch＇s postulate test, biolog, fatty acid methyl esters （FAMEs）, and a polymerase chain reaction （PCR） test, and compared with the standard reference strains. Six representative strains out of 20 pathogenic bacterial isolates from 16 diseased samples showed characteristics similar to three standard strains of Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae from Belgium. They were identified as P. syringae pv. syringae with a biolog similarity of 0.57-0.86 and FAMEs similarity of 0.58-0.81. The bacterium was reisolated from the symptomatic plants and blossoms. Identification as P. syringae pv. syringae was confirmed by using PCR primers and sequence tests, and compared with the above-mentioned results. The data supported the fact that the pear blossom and bud blast in China could be caused by P. syringae pv. syringae.

Novel abdominal negative pressure lavage-drainage system for anastomotic leakage after R0 resection for gastric cancer

BACKGROUND Anastomotic leakage(AL) is a severe complication associated with high morbidity and mortality after radical gastrectomy(RG) for gastric cancer(GC).We hypothesized that a novel abdominal negative pressure lavage-drainage system(ANPLDS) can effectively reduce the failure-to-rescue(FTR) and the risk of reoperation, and it is a feasible management for *** To report our institution's experience with a novel ANPLDS for AL after RG for *** The study enrolled 4173 patients who underwent R0 resection for GC at our institution between june 2009 and December 2016. ANPLDS was routinely used for patients with AL after January 2014. Characterization of patients who underwent R0 resection was compared between different study periods. AL rates and postoperative outcome among patients with AL were compared before and after the ANPLDS therapy. We used multivariate analyses to evaluate clinicopathological and perioperative factors for associations with AL and FTR after *** AL occurred in 83(83/4173, 2%) patients, leading to 7 deaths. The mean time of occurrence of AL was 5.6 days. The AL rate was similar before(2009-2013, period1) and after(2014-2016, period 2) the implementation of the ANPLDS therapy(1.7% vs 2.3%, P = 0.121). Age and malnourishment were independently associated with AL. The FTR rate and abdominal bleeding rate after AL occurred were respectively 8.4% and 9.6% for the entire period; however, compared with period 1, this significantly decreased during period 2(16.2% vs 2.2%, P = 0.041;18.9% vs 2.2%, P = 0.020, respectively). Moreover, the reoperation rate was also reduced in period 2, although this result was not statistically significant(13.5% vs2.2%, P = 0.084). Additionally, only ANPLDS therapy was an independent protective factor for FTR after AL(P = 0.04).CONCLUSION Our experience demonstrates that ANPLDS is a feasible management for AL after RG for GC.
