Responses of Tree Species to Climate Warming at Different Spatial Scales

Tree species respond to climate change at multiple scales,such as species physiological response at fine scale and species distribution (quantified by percent area) at broader spatial *** a given spatial scale,species physiological response and distribution can be correlated positively or *** consistency of such correlation relationships at different spatial scales determines whether species responses derived from local scales can be extrapo-lated to broader spatial *** this study,we used a coupled modeling approach that coupled a plot-level ecosystem process model (lINKAGES) with a spatially explicit landscape model (lANDIS).We investigated species physio-logical responses and distribution responses to climate warming at the local,zonal and landscape scales respectively,and examined how species physiological response and distribution correlated at each corresponding scale and whether the correlations were consistent among these *** results indicate that for zonal and warming-sensitive species,the correlations between species physiological response and distribution are consistent at these spatial scales,and therefore the research results of vegetation response to climate warming at the local scale can be extrapolated to the zonal and landscape *** contrast,for zonal and warming-insensitive species the correlations among different spatial scales are consistent at some spatial scales but at other *** results also suggest that the results of azonal species at the local scale near their distribution boundaries can not be extrapolated simply to broader scales due to stronger responses to climate warming in those boundary regions.

Error-based adaptive optimal tracking control of nonlinear discrete-time systems

In this paper,for the output tracking problem of nonlinear discrete-time systems,a performance index is newly defined using the adaptive dynamic programming(ADP) technique to completely eliminate tracking errors in *** contrast to traditional definitions of performance indices in other ADP-based methods,the proposed performance index is not only designed from the perspective of output tracking errors but also introduced errors of system states and control inputs at adjacent stages,which is suitable for practical situations in many industrial applications,such as the alumina production,the flotation process,and the mineral grinding *** proved that the obtained controller can make the system output fully track the given reference trajectory by applying the iterative criteria of the ADP *** addition,the proposed algorithm was implemented using a data-driven technique and neural networks to avoid analyzing and deducing the complicated dynamics of actual industrial ***,using historical data for a forced-circulation evaporation system in the alumina production process,the effect of the proposed approach was verified through a numerical simulation and compared with that of the proportional-integral controller.

This paper presents a learning-based control policy design for point-to-point vehicle positioning in the urban environment via BeiDou *** navigating in urban canyons,the multipath effect is a kind of interference that causes the navigation signal to drift and thus imposes severe impacts on vehicle localization due to the reflection and diffraction of the BeiDou ***,the authors formulated the navigation control system with unknown vehicle dynamics into an optimal control-seeking problem through a linear discrete-time system,and the point-to-point localization control is modeled and handled by leveraging off-policy reinforcement learning for feedback *** proposed learning-based design guarantees optimality with prescribed performance and also stabilizes the closed-loop navigation system,without the full knowledge of the vehicle *** is seen that the proposed method can withstand the impact of the multipath effect while satisfying the prescribed convergence rate.A case study demonstrates that the proposed algorithms effectively drive the vehicle to a desired setpoint under the multipath effect introduced by actual experiments of BeiDou navigation in the urban environment.

Reinforcement learning(Rl) has roots in dynamic programming and it is called adaptive/approximate dynamic programming(ADP) within the control community. This paper reviews recent developments in ADP along with Rl and its applications to various advanced control fields. First, the background of the development of ADP is described, emphasizing the significance of regulation and tracking control problems. Some effective offline and online algorithms for ADP/adaptive critic control are displayed, where the main results towards discrete-time systems and continuous-time systems are surveyed, ***, the research progress on adaptive critic control based on the event-triggered framework and under uncertain environment is discussed, respectively, where event-based design, robust stabilization, and game design are reviewed. Moreover, the extensions of ADP for addressing control problems under complex environment attract enormous attention. The ADP architecture is revisited under the perspective of data-driven and Rl frameworks,showing how they promote ADP formulation ***, several typical control applications with respect to Rl and ADP are summarized, particularly in the fields of wastewater treatment processes and power systems, followed by some general prospects for future research. Overall, the comprehensive survey on ADP and Rl for advanced control applications has d emonstrated its remarkable potential within the artificial intelligence era. In addition, it also plays a vital role in promoting environmental protection and industrial intelligence.

Improving the hydrostability of zeolitic imidazolate framework coatings using a facile silk fibroin protein modification method

Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIFs)are an important subclass of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)with zeolite-type topology,which can be fabricated under ambient synthesis ***,the applications of ZIFs are commonly limited due to the weak hydrostability of their metal–ligand coordination bonds,particularly under humid and aqueous *** this work,as an example,the hydrolysis behaviours of ZIF-l with a special focus on ZIF-l coatings were tested at aqueous conditions with a wide range of pHs to systematically study and fundamentally understand their structural stability and degradation *** ZIF-l powder and ZIF-l coatings were severely damaged after only 24 h in aqueous ***,the ZIF-l coatings showed two distinct hydrolyzation pathways regardless of pH conditions,exhibiting either a ring-shaped etching or unfolding *** the ZIF-l powders were hydrolyzed almost identically across all pH *** this new understanding,a facile silk fibroin(SF)protein modification method was developed to enhance the hydrostability of ZIF-l coatings in aqueous *** effect of protein concentration on surface coating was systemically ***-l coating retained its surface morphology after soaking in water and demonstrated switchable super wetting properties and superior separation performance for oil/water *** a result,the quick SF protein modification significantly enhanced the stability of ZIF-l coatings under various pHs,while retaining their switchable wetting property and excellent separation performance.

Thermophysical, Mechanical and Durability Characterization of Adobe Bricks Reinforced with Fonio (Digitaria exilis) Sounds

Buildings constructed using modern materials such as cement are energy-intensive, facilitate heat transfer and thus promote warming inside the building. However, the Sudano-Sahelian regions have a hot climate occupying a large period of the year, thus requiring not only sustainable construction materials, but also which provide thermal comfort in the building by limiting the energy demand for air conditioning. These qualifications are important for sub-Saharan African countries in general and those of the Sudano-Sahelian zone in particular, which need ecological materials with good thermal performance to limit heating inside buildings. This study is an energy recovery of agricultural waste in buildings with a view to offering the populations of the northern regions of Cameroon suitable materials at lower cost for the construction of buildings. The soil used for this study was extracted from the locality of Yagoua where the populations make abundant use of mud bricks. Fonio waste was incorporated at low levels into the earth bricks, particularly at 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, and 4%, with a view to strengthening their thermophysical and mechanical properties. The results obtained indicate that earth bricks reinforced with 4% waste showed better thermal and mechanical insulation properties compared to other formulations with an improvement of 16% and 78% respectively compared to the unreinforced samples. This research allows us to conclude that fonio waste can be used practically without expense in the building with a view to its energy recovery and will promote not only thermal comfort and the limitation of the energy supply for air conditioning, but the construction of more sustainable buildings with a cleaner environment.

Existence of Solutions of a Convolution Integral Equation

In this study, we prove the of existence of solutions of a convolution Volterra integral equation in the space of the lebesgue integrable function on the set of positive real numbers and with the standard norm defined on it. An operator P was assigned to the convolution integral operator which was later expressed in terms of the superposition operator and the nonlinear operator. Given a ball Br belonging to the space l it was established that the operator P maps the ball into itself. The Hausdorff measure of noncompactness was then applied by first proving that given a set M∈ B r the set is bounded, closed, convex and nondecreasing. Finally, the Darbo fixed point theorem was applied on the measure obtained from the set E belonging to M. From this application, it was observed that the conditions for the Darbo fixed point theorem was satisfied. This indicated the presence of at least a fixed point for the integral equation which thereby implying the existence of solutions for the integral equation.

Objective Pharmacopoeias regulate the manufacture of potentised pharmaceutical preparations used in different branches of complementary and integrative *** physicochemical properties and biological activity of these preparations are often investigated in preclinical research,yet no guidelines for experimental research currently exist in this *** present PrePoP guidelines aim to provide recommendations to promote high-quality,statistically sound,and reproducible preclinical research on potentised *** Input was gathered from researchers nominated by the relevant scientific societies using a simplified Delphi consensus approach covering the most relevant aspects of basic research methodology in the field including appropriate controls,sample preparation and handling,and *** three rounds of feedback,a consensus was finally reached on the most important aspects and considerations for conducting high-quality research on potentised *** We present a series of recommendations on a range of topics including experimental controls,system stability,blinding and randomisation,environmental influences,and procedures for the preparation of potentised samples and controls,and we address some specific challenges of this research *** This expert consensus process resulted in a robust set of methodological guidelines for research on potentised preparations and provides a valuable framework that will inform and improve the quality of subsequent research in this emerging field.

昆虫病原线虫是一种极具潜力的生防因子，因其高效的杀虫特性而受到国际生防界的广泛关注，胰岛素作为一种蛋白质多肽，已被证实对昆虫、线虫等的生长发育、寿命均有重要调控作用。为了明确胰岛素对昆虫病原线虫的影响，本试验通过对经卡森斯氏线虫Steinernemakraussei0657l和短尾异小杆线虫Heterorhabditisbrevicaudis0641TY侵染的大蜡螟Galleriamellonella注射不同浓度胰岛素，观测昆虫病原线虫的生活史及其对大蜡螟的致病力，以明确胰岛素对昆虫病原线虫生长发育、生殖力、致病力的影响。结果表明：胰岛素干预时间和干预浓度均可对卡森斯氏线虫0657l在寄主昆虫体内的生长发育产生影响，侵染当天（t）干预和高浓度（1:500）干预，会明显缩短其发育历期；侵染当天无论是高浓度还是低浓度的胰岛素干预，均会明显缩短短尾异小杆线虫0641TY的发育历期，且相比较卡森斯氏线虫0657l，胰岛素促进短尾异小杆线虫0641TY发育历期的效果更明显。在卡森斯氏线虫0657l侵染大蜡螟10 d后，注射低浓度的胰岛素，可显著提高其生殖力；在短尾异小杆线虫0641TY侵染大蜡螟1d后，注射低浓度的胰岛素，可显著提高其生殖力。胰岛素对卡森斯氏线虫0657l致病力有影响，在24 h内高浓度胰岛素可显著缩短寄主昆虫的死亡时间，但是侵染36 h后，各处理间差异不显著；而对短尾异小杆线虫0641TY致病力无影响。综上所述，胰岛素对卡森斯氏线虫0657l和短尾异小杆线虫0641TY的发育和生殖力均有影响，且对卡森斯氏线虫致病力有影响。
