In this work,the relationship between electronic structure and hemocompatibility of oxygen deficient rutile TiO2-x was studied by both theoretical calculation and experimental study. Based on the local density functional theory,first-principals method was performed to calculate the electronic structure of rutile TiO2 with different oxygen vacancy concentration. In the range of less than 10% of (or equal) physically realistic O vacancy concentration,the band gap of rutile TiO2 increases with increasing O vacancy concentration,leading the TiO2 changes from a p-type to an n-type semiconductor. The valance band of TiO2 is predominated by O 2p orbital,while the conduction band is occupied by Ti 3d orbital for different O vacancy concentration. The O vacancy results in the occupation of electrons at the bottom of conduction band of TiO2,and the donor density increases with increasing O vacancy concentration. When materials come in contact with blood,the n-type semiconductor feature of oxygen deficient TiO2-x with the bottom of conduction band occupied by electrons would prevent charge transfer from fibrinogen into the surface of materials,thus inhibiting the aggregation and activation of platelets,therefore improving the hemocompatibility of rutile TiO2-x.

Carbon-Doped Titanium Oxide Films by DC Reactive Magnetron Sputtering Using CO_2 and O_2 as Reactive Gas

CO2 and O2 were employed as reactive gases to fabricate carbon-doped titanium oxide films using DC reactive magnetron sputtering. Microstructure, composition and optical band gap of the films were investigated by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and UV-visible spectrophotometer, respectively. The results showed that carbon-doped titanium monoxide films （C-TiO） with a carbon concentration of 5.8 at.% were obtained in an AffCO2 mixed atmosphere. However, carbon-doped futile and anatase （C-TiO2） with a carbon concentration of about 1.4 at.% were obtained in an Ar/CO2/O2 mixed atmosphere. The optical band gaps of C-TiO and C-TiO2 were about 2.6 and 2.9 eV, respectively. Both of them were narrower than that of pure TiO2 films. Films with narrowed optical band gap energy are promising in promoting their photo-catalytic activity.

Thrombosis is the major stumbling block to the clinical application of blood-contacting ***,a quick and easy surface engineering strategy of hydrogel coating with the therapeutic gas nitric oxide(NO)generation was reported to realize up-regulation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate(c GMP)and improve hemocompatibility for diverse metal *** first introduce the active centre selenocysteine of glutathione peroxidase(GPx)to the self-assembling peptide(RADA)4,obtaining a functionalized *** the hydrogel is directly coated on the 316L stainless steel(SS)for catalytically generating NO from endogenous s-nitrosothiols(RSNO).The generated NO endows the coated surface with regulation of platelet behavior and reduction of plasmatic coagulation activation and complement system activation,hence improving antithrombotic ability in vitro and ex ***,our NO-generating hydrogel coating surface engineering strategy provides a novel solution to remove the obstacle about thrombosis of blood-contacting devices in clinic.

Polymeric membranes with the integration of various functional performances toward wastewater treatment are urgently ***,most of the polymeric membranes only exhibit a single function of highly efficiently removing one kind of *** this work,a biomimetic modification method was introduced to tailor the chemical and topological structure of the porous poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF)fibers prepared by *** polydopamine(PDA)nanoparticles were homogeneously introduced onto the surface of PVDF porous fibers via precisely tailoring the concentration of dopamine,which endowed the fibers with more polar groups and bigger roughness but did not destroy the crystalline *** fibrous membranes exhibited switchable superhydrophilicity and superlipophilicity characteristics,excellent adsorption abilities toward organic dyes,heavy metal ions and *** highest adsorption capacities achieved 917.4 mg/g toward methylene blue(MB),42.6 mg/g toward Cr(VI)and 74.6 g/g toward silicone oil,***,the membrane could rapidly remove the trace MB when water flowed through the *** membrane also exhibited excellent sterilization performances,and the bacterial eliminating rate achieved 99.9%for the *** and *** excellent light-to-heat conversion ability endowed the membrane with the selfheating ability,furtherly intensifying the wastewater treatment *** work confirms that the PDA nanoparticles-decorated PVDF porous fibers might be the new generation adsorbents used in wastewater treatment.

Because of their good performance,including biocompatibility and mechanical proper-ties,polyurethanes(PUs)are widely used in medical ***,undesired compatibility troubles,including thrombus,inflammation,and hyperplasia,still limit the applications of *** this study,copper-mediated polyurethane(PU-Cu)materials with enzyme-like catalysis were *** PU-Cu materials effectively catalysed the nitric oxide(NO)released from endogenous NO donors because of the glutathione peroxidase(GPx)-like function of copper *** PU‐Cu materials were respectively evaluated via platelet adhesion and endothelial cell(EC),smooth muscle cell(SMC),and macrophage(MA)*** electron microscopy results showed that PU-Cu materials significantly inhibited platelet adhesion and ***,PU-Cu materials not only promote the proliferation of EC but also inhibit SMC ***,MA culture results intuitively stated the anti-inflammatory ability of *** addition,experimental samples were implanted into the subcutaneous tissue of Sprague Dawley *** anti-inflammatory function of PU-Cu was further confirmed by haematoxylin-eosin staining *** regard to their excellent biological performance,PU-Cu materials are proposed for biocompatibility improvement of blood-contacting mate-rials,which should in turn provide new ideas for advanced medical devices.

NO is the earliest discovered gas signal molecule which is produced by normal healthy endothelial cells,and it has many functions,such as maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis,regulating vasodilation,inhibiting intimal hyperplasia and preventing atherosclerosis in the blood *** NO release is often observed in the pathological environment,for instance *** was discovered that NO could be released from the human endogenous NO donor by many compounds,and these methods can be used for the treatment of certain diseases in the blood *** this work,a series of copper-loaded polydopamine(PDA)coatings were produced through self-polymerization time for 24,48 and 72 *** chemical composition and structure,coating thickness and hydrophilicity of the different copper-loaded PDA coatings surfaces were characterized by phenol hydroxyl quantitative,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,ellipsometry atomic force microscopy and water contact *** results indicate that the thickness and the surface phenolic hydroxyl density of the PDA coatings increased with the polymerization *** copperloaded coating has glutathione peroxidase-like activity,and it has the capability of catalyzing NO releasing from *** surface of the coating showed desirable hemocompatibility,the adhesion and activation of platelets were inhibited on the copper-loaded *** the same time,the formation of the thrombosis was also *** copper-loaded PDA coatings could provide a promising platform for the development of blood contact materials.

Polyurethanes are widely used in interventional devices due to the excellent physicochemical ***,non-specific adhesion and severe inflammatory response of ordinary polyurethanes may lead to severe complications of intravenous ***,a novel phospholipid-based polycarbonate urethanes(PCUs)were developed via two-step solution polymerization by direct synthesis based on functional raw ***,PCUs were coated on biomedical metal sheets to construct biomimetic anti-fouling *** results of stress–strain curves exhibited excellent tensile properties of PCUs *** scanning calorimetry results indicated that the microphase separation of such PCUs polymers could be well regulated by adjusting the formulation of chain extender,leading to different biological *** vitro blood compatibility tests including bovine serum albumin adsorption,fibrinogen adsorption and denaturation,platelet adhesion and whole-blood experiment showed superior performance in inhibition non-specific adhesion of PCUs *** cells and smooth muscle cells culture tests further revealed a good anti-cell adhesion ***,animal experiments including ex vivo blood circulation and subcutaneous inflammation animal experiments indicated a strong ability in anti-thrombosis and *** results high light the strong anti-adhesion property of phospholipid-based PCUs films,which may be applied to the blood-contacting implants such as intravenous catheter or antithrombotic surface in the future.
