Macrophages-Based Immunotherapy for the Brain Diseases

The fundamental difficulties of immunotherapy for the brain diseases are delivery of therapeutic molecules to cross the blood-brain barrier(BBB),to transfect non-dividing neurons and macrophages,and to edit gene in and/or out in the diseased tissues. Regulation of immune responses is particular important in immunotherapy in brain cancer,stroke,traumatic brain injury,and brain infections. Immunotherapy appears to have significant therapeutic potential for the treatment of neurological conditions by regulation of immune responses to prevent irreversible destructive mechanisms. The systemic and brain immune responses to treatment closely contributed to long-term therapeutic efficacy. We have been developed three platforms by targeting macrophages. First,manipulating macrophages to "turn off" neuropathologyical signals and to "turn on" therapeutic immune responses. This immunoswitch allows to develop the effective immunotherapies for the brain diseases. Second,we used a targeting peptide,rabies virus glycoprotein(RVG),to bind core-shell nanoparticles(RVG-NPs) for dual targeting the brain and macrophages. RVG-NPs enhanced trans-BBB and favored to macrophages and microglia. Using NPs to deliver plasmid DNA(pDNA) into macrophages,we obtained the higher transfection efficiency. The pDNA-NPs showed to effectively edit foreign gene in and delete target gene out. Moreover,macrophage is cellular immune regulator that target to the brain diseased site treatment of brain diseases. Thus,macrophages based immunotherapy is a promising strategy in neurological ailments.

In early 2000,large domestic shipyards introduced shipbuilding 3D computer-aided design (CAD) to the hull production design process to define manufacturing and assembly *** production design process accounts for most of the man-hours (M/H) of the entire design process and is closely connected to yard production because designs must take into account the production schedule of the shipyard,the current state of the dock needed to mount the ship’s block,and supply ***,many shipyards are investigating the complete automation of the production design process to reduce the M/H for ***,these problems are still currently unresolved,and a clear direction is needed for research on the automatic design base of manufacturing rules,batches reflecting changed building specifications,batch updates of boundary information for hull members,and management of the hull model change history to automate the production design *** this study,a process was developed to aid production design engineers in designing a new ship’s hull block model from that of a similar ship previously built,based on AVEVA *** automation system that uses the similar ship’s hull block model is proposed to reduce M/H and human errors by the production design ***,scheme files holding important information were constructed in a database to automatically update hull block model ***,for batch updates,the database’s table,including building specifications and the referential integrity of a relational database were *** particular,this study focused on reflecting the frequent modification of building specifications and regeneration of boundary information of the adjacent panel due to changes in a specific ***,the rollback function is proposed in which the database (DB) is used to return to the previously designed panels.

Fold-thrust belts generally exhibit significant variations in structural styles such as differences in thrust geometries and frequencies in imbrication. A natural laboratory of this pattern is preserved in the central Alberta Foothills of the Canadian Rockies, where differences in thrust geometries are represented by the existence vs. non-existence of triangle zones. To seek the factors that make this difference in these regions in terms of structural geometry, stratigraphic thickness variations and mechanical stratigraphy of the sedimentary layers, structural interpretation is conducted based on admissible cross-sections and well log interpretations. In northern region, a backthrust is detached from an incompetent layer(*** Unit of the Wapiabi Formation), which gets thinner from the Foothills to the Plains, indicating that it is developed where the shale layers are pinched out where triangle zone is developed. Backthrust is also developed in the southern region, where mechanical strengths of strata(viz. Bearpaw Formation)increase toward the foreland. In the central region, however, only forethrusts are developed along the weak continuous decollement layers(viz. Turner Valley and Brazeau formations), forming an imbricate fan without development of the triangle zone. Incompetent layers such as the top Wapiabi(Nomad),Brazeau(Bearpaw), Coalspur and Paskapoo formations are also pinched out laterally, forming fault glide horizons in different stratigraphic levels in each region. These results indicate that, along the transport direction, triangle zone is developed in relation to the stratigraphic pinch out of the Nomad Unit in the northern region, and is formed associated with the variations in strengths of the layers constituting the Bearpaw Formation in the southern region. Landslides are natural disasters which can pose a serious threat to human and property in many areas around the world. The Transient Rainfall Infiltration and Grid-based Regional Slope-stability (TRIGRS) model was used to investigate the rainfall-induced shallow landslides in a forested mountain region, Korea. Various input data for TRIGRS model include time-varying rainfall, topographic characteristics, soil depth, material strength, and hydraulic properties. A series of calculations were conducted in determining the slope stability over the Jangheung region in Korea during the storm occurred on August 6, 1998. The results show that TRIGRS model captured about 64.1% of landslides that were extracted from the IKONOS2 imageries. The model demonstrated how the factor of safety changed with time during a storm considering both the transient and spatial responses of pore water pressure in its slope stability calculation.

As the increasing number of Phasor Measurement Units(PMUs) are deployed, wide area protection in power systems has been gaining interest. In particular, fault detection, fault classification and fault area estimation are essential to reduce the damage of faults, and even prevent catastrophic cascades of failures. In this paper, we present a scheme for fault area estimation using PMUs and traveling wave theory. The purpose of this paper is to formulate a scheme for fault area estimation by calculating the approximate fault location based on traveling wave *** research has targeted at reliable operation of wide transmission system through the estimation of fault *** verify the suggested scheme, the various simulations are performed in practical Korean power transmission *** simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a good performance with high accuracy for estimating fault area.

Effect of Si Content on Mechanical Properties of a Mo and V Free Low Alloy Cast Steel for Automobile Cold Pressing Die

The effects of Si content on combinations of important properties such as hardness, hardenability, and weldability in addition to strength increment were systematically investigated to develop a Mo and V free low alloy cast steel for automobile cold pressing die insert. For the evaluation of the applicability as the die insert, the mechanical properties were measured after spheroidization annealing （SA）, quenching and tempering （Q/T）, and flame hardening （FH） treatments, respectively. The developed 0.8%-1.6%Si containing Mo and V free alloy cast steels showed excellent matrix strengthening effect, hardenability, and weldability, fulfilling the industrial criterion of the mechanical properties for the die insert.
