A series of numerical analyses has been performed on the characteristics of heat transfer in a closed-loop vertical ground heat exchanger(U-loop).A 2-D finite element analysis was conducted to evaluate the temperature distribution over the cross section of the U-loop system involving high-density polyethylene(HDPE) pipe/grout/soil to compare the sectional efficiency between the conventional U-loop and a new latticed HDPE pipe system,which is equipped with a thermally insulating lattice in order to reduce thermal interference between the inlet and outlet *** addition,a 3-D finite volume analysis(FLUENT) was adopted to simulate the operation of the closed-loop vertical ground heat exchanger with the consideration of the effect of a distance between the inlet and outlet pipes,grout's thermal properties,the effectiveness of the latticed HDPE pipe system,and the rate of circulation *** was observed that the thermal interference between the two strands of U-loop is of importance in enhancing efficiency of the ground heat ***,it is recommended to modify the configuration of the conventional U-loop system by equipping the thermally insulating lattice between the two pipe strands.

In this study, a series of numerical analyses was performed in order to evaluate the performance of full-scale closed-loop vertical ground heat exchangers constructed in Wonju, South Korea. The circulating HDPE pipe, borehole and surrounding ground formation were modeled using FLUENT, a finite-volume method (FVM) program, for analyzing the heat transfer process of the ground heat exchanger system. Two user-defined functions (UDFs) accounting for the difference in the temperature of the circulating inflow and outflow fluid and the variation of ground temperature with depth were adopted in the FLUENT modeling. The thermal conductivities of grouts (cement vs. bentonite) measured in laboratory were used as input values in the numerical analyses to compare the thermal efficiency of the cement and bentonite grouts used for installing the closed-loop vertical ground heat exchanger. A series of numerical analyses was carried out to simulate in-situ thermal response tests performed in the construction site. From the comparison between the in-situ thermal response test results and numerical simulations, the average thermal conductivity of the ground formation in the construction site is back-calculated as approximately 4 W/mK. This value can be used in evaluating the long-term performance of the closed-loop vertical ground heat ex changer.

With increasing demands of virtual reality(VR) applications, efficient VR rendering techniques are becoming essential. Because VR stereo rendering has increased computational costs to separately render views for the left and right eyes, to reduce the rendering cost in VR applications, we present a novel traversal order for tile-based mobile GPU architectures: Z^2 traversal order. In tile-based mobile GPU architectures,a tile traversal order that maximizes spatial locality can increase GPU cache efficiency. For VR applications, our approach improves upon the traditional Z order *** render corresponding screen tiles in left and right views in turn, or simultaneously, and as a result, we can exploit spatial adjacency of the two tiles. To evaluate our approach, we conducted a trace-driven hardware simulation using Mesa and a hardware simulator. Our experimental results show that Z^2 traversal order can reduce external memory bandwidth requirements and increase rendering performance.

Cross-sectional visualisation of the cellular and subcellular structures of human atherosclerosis in vivo is significant,as this disease is fundamentally caused by abnormal processes that occur at this scale in a depth-dependent ***,due to the inherent resolution-depth of focus tradeoff of conventional focusing optics,today’s highestresolution intravascular imaging technique,namely,optical coherence tomography(OCT),is unable to provide crosssectional images at this resolution through a coronary ***,we introduce an intravascular imaging system and catheter based on few-mode interferometry,which overcomes the depth of focus limitation of conventional highnumerical-aperture objectives and enables three-dimensional cellular-resolution intravascular imaging in vivo by a submillimetre diameter,flexible *** of diseased cadaver human coronary arteries and living rabbit arteries were acquired with this device,showing clearly resolved cellular and subcellular structures within the artery wall,such as individual crystals,smooth muscle cells,and inflammatory *** capability of this technology to enable cellularresolution,cross-sectional intravascular imaging will make it possible to study and diagnose human coronary disease with much greater precision in the future.

Background： Blood pressure （BP） variability has been associated with stroke risk. We elucidated the association between systolic BP （SBP） variation and outcomes in patients with nonlobar intracerebral hemorrhage （ICH） following intensive antihypertensive treatment upfront. Methods： We screened consecutive patients with spontaneous ICH who underwent intensive antihypertensive treatments targeting BP 〈140 mmHg between 2008 and 2016. SBPs were monitored hourly during the acute period （〈7 days after symptom onset） in the intensive care unit. SBP variability was determined in terms of range, standard deviation （SD）, coefficient of variation （CoV）, and mean absolnte change （MAC）. The primary outcomes included hematoma growth and poor clinical outcome at 3 months （modified Rankin Scale [mRS] score 〉3. The secondary outcome was an ordinal shift in mRS at 3 months. Results： A total of 104 individuals （mean age, 63.0 ± 13.5 years： male, 57.7%） were included in this study. In multivariable model, MAC （adjusted odds ratio [OR], ***; 95% confidence interval [CI]： 1.02-1.21; P = 0.01 2） rather than the range of SD or CoV, was significantly associated with hematoma growth even after adjusting for mean SBP level. Sixty-eight out of 104 patients （65.4%） had a poor clinical outcome at 3 months. SD and CoV of SBP were significantly associated with a 3-month poor clinical outcome even after adjusting for mean SBR In addition, in multivariable ordinal logistic models, the MAC of SBP was significantly associated with higher shift of mRS at 3 months （adjusted OR, 1.08; 95% CI： 1.02-1.15： P = 0.008）. Conclusions： The MAC of SBP is associated with hematoma growth, and SD and COV are correlated with 3-month poor outcome in patients with supratentorial nonlobar ICH. Therelbre, sustained SBP control, with a reduction in SBP variability is essential to reinforce the beneficial effect of intensive antihypertensive treatment.

FADD is an adapter protein known to transmit apoptotic signals from death domain-containing members of the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNF-R) family. However, characterization of FADD-deficient lymphocytes showed that FADD is also crucial for lymphocyte development and proliferation.
