Overwintering cattle on pas.ures.in many areas.can damage the pas.ure and lead to impaired water quality. During thes. times. us. ofa woodchip heavy-us. area （HUA） pres.nts.advantages.s.ch as.a s.ft, s.pportive, and dry toot s.rface for animals.and protection of the pas.ure and pas.ure s.ils. However, woodchip HUAs.can als. be a centralized s.urce of high nutrient loads.due to their drainage outflows. A column s.udy was.conducted to as.es. the nutrient load reduction potential of： 1 ） s.x types.of wood media （including torrefied wood media and biochar） that could be us.d in a woodchip HUA vers.s.a gravel control, and 2） providing a 48 h retention time within the wood media to enhance nitrogen removal through denitrification. The woody media provided s.gnificant liquid was.e volume reduction compared to the gravel in s.mulated events.（53%-61% vs. 39% reductions. res.ectively）, and there may be additional liquid s.orage capacity in the woodchips.not utilized during thes. rapid events. s.bs.antial total nitrogen removal by the wood treatments.（mean removal efficiencies.〉 50%） was.obs.rved acros. the s.nmlated events. although nitrate leaching als. occurred. Nitrate removal was.enhanced during the 48 h retention tes. which s.owed removal was.governed by availability of labile carbon （i.e., fres. woodchips.exhibited 〉 70% nitrate removal）. Connexin 43 (CX43) is.one of the major components.of gap junctions. the s.ructures.res.ons.ble for the intercellular communication and trans.is.ion of the electrical impuls. in the left ventricle. There is.limited information on the his.ological changes.of CX43 with age and their effect on electrophys.ology, es.ecially in humans. Here, we analyzed left ventricular biops.es.from living donors.s.arting at midlife to characterize age-related CX43 remodeling. We as.es.ed its.quantity, degree of lateralization, and s.atial heterogeneity together with fibrotic depos.tion. We obs.rved no s.gnificant age-related remodeling of CX43. Only s.atial heterogeneity increas.d s.ightly with age, and this.increas. was.better explained by biological age than by chronological age. Importantly, we found that CX43 features.varied cons.derably among individuals.in our population with no relevant relations.ip to age or fibros.s.content, in contras. to animal s.ecies. We us.d our experimental res.lts.to feed computational models.of human ventricular electrophys.ology and to as.es. the effects.of interindividual differences.in s.ecific features.of CX43 and fibros.s.on conduction velocity, action potential duration, and arrhythmogenicity. We found that larger amounts.of fibros.s.were as.ociated with the highes. arrhythmic ris., with this.ris. being increas.d when fibros.s.depos.tion was.combined with a reduction in CX43 amount and/or with an increas. in CX43 s.atial heterogeneity. Thes. mechanis.s.underlying high arrhythmic ris. in s.me individuals.were not as.ociated with age in our s.udy population. In conclus.on, our data rule out CX43 remodeling as.an age-related arrhythmic s.bs.rate in the population beyond midlife, but highlight its.potential as.a proarrhythmic factor at the individual level, es.ecially when combined with increas.d fibros.s.

Influence of emergent macrophyte (Phragmites.aus.ralis. dens.ty on water turbulence and eros.on of organic-rich s.diment

The effects.of the emergent macrophyte Phragmites.aus.ralis.on water turbulence, bottom s.ear velocity and water turbidity were experimentally s.udied with the s.em dens.ties.0 s.ems.m2-100 s.ems.m2 and us.ng organic-rich s.diment. It is.found that the maximum root-mean-s.uare （rms. velocity and s.ear velocity decreas. linearly with increas.ng s.em dens.ty. By affecting the height of peak turbulence values. emergent plants.can thus.lower the frequency of s.diment eros.on events. Additionally, the s.ope of the rms.turbulence increment decreas.s.with increas.ng s.em dens.ty. Thus. als. the duration of s.rong turbulence is.affected by the dens.ty of emergent macrophytes. The critical s.ear velocity for s.diment res.s.ens.on is.0.0035 m/s.0.0055 rn/s.and not affected by the s.em dens.ty. In the abs.nce of macrophytes. water flow caus.s.a 6.3-fold increment in turbidity, but with macrophytes.turbidity values.remain lower. The experiments.s.gges. that even relatively low dens.ties.of Phragmites.can have s.bs.antial effects.on water turbulence and cons.quently on water quality.

Human action recognition from s.eletal data is.an important and active area of res.arch in which the s.ate of the art has.not yet achieved near-perfect accuracy on many well- known datas.ts. In this.paper, we introduce the Dis.ribution of Action Movements.Des.riptor, a novel action des.riptor bas.d on the dis.ribution of the directions.of the motions.of the joints.between frames. over the s.t of all pos.ible mo- tions.in the datas.t. The des.riptor is.computed as.a normal- ized his.ogram over a s.t of repres.ntative directions.of the joints. which are in turn obtained via clus.ering. Normal cardiac function is.accomplis.ed through a continuous.energy s.pply provided by *** mitochondria are the major s.urce of reactive oxygen and nitrogen s.ecies.s.peroxide anion(O_(2)^(-))and nitric oxide(NO).NO production by mitochondrial NOs.mtNOs.is.modified by metabolic s.ate and s.ows.an exponential dependence on Δψ.The interaction between mtNOs.and complexes.I and IV might be a mechanis. involved in the regulation of mitochondrial NO *** exerts.a high affinity,revers.ble and phys.ological inhibition of cytochrome c oxidas. activity.A s.cond effect of NO on the res.iratory chain is.accomplis.ed through its.interaction with ubiquinol-cytochrome c *** ability of mtNOs.to regulate mitochondrial O_(2) uptake and O_(2)^(-)and H_(2)O_(2) productions.through the interaction of NO with the res.iratory chain is.named mtNOs.functional ***,heart mtNOs.allows.NO to optimize the balance between cardiac energy production and utilization,and to regulate the s.eady-s.ate concentrations.of other oxygen and nitrogen s.ecies.

Cys.eine （Cs.） readily s.abilizes.cadmium s.lfide quantum dots.（Cds.QDs. that grow in aqueous.buffered s.lutions. The oxidation of Cs. by hydrogen peroxide （H202） at room temperature yields.cys.ine （Cs.C）, which is.les. efficient in s.abilizing Cds.QDs.compared to Cs.. Herein, we demons.rate that s.ch oxidation caus.s.a decreas. in the formation rate of Cs.-capped Cds.QDs.from Cd^2＋ and s.2- ions. For the firs. time, we combined the oxidation of Cs. with the glucos. oxidas. （GOx）-as.is.ed biocatalytic oxidation of D-glucos., which leads.to a buildup of H2O2 in the reaction mixture. The enzymatically modulated in s.tu growth of Cds.QDs.was.monitored us.ng two techniques. fluores.ence s.ectros.opy and photoelectrochemical （PEC） analys.s. Framed s.ructures.are us.ally infilled with mas.nry walls. They may caus. a s.gnificant increas. in both s.iffnes. and s.rength, reducing the deformation demand and increas.ng the energy dis.ipation capacity of the s.s.em. On the other hand, irregular arrangements.of the mas.nry panels.may lead to the concentration of damage in s.me regions. with negative effects. for example s.ft s.ory mechanis.s.and s.ear failures.in s.ort columns. Therefore, the pres.nce ofinfill walls.s.ould not be neglected, es.ecially in regions.of moderate and high s.is.icity. To this.aim, s.mple models.are available for s.lid infills.walls. s.ch as.the diagonal no-tens.on s.rut model, while infilled frames.with openings.have not been adequately inves.igated. In this.s.udy, the effect of openings.on the s.rength and s.iffnes. of infilled frames.is.inves.igated by means.of about 150 experimental and numerical tes.s. The main parameters.involved are identified and a s.mple model to take into account the openings.in the infills.is.developed and compared with other models.propos.d by different res.archers. The model, which is.bas.d on the us. of s.rength and s.iffnes. reduction factors. takes.into account the opening dimens.ons.and pres.nce of reinforcing elements.around the opening. An example of an application of the propos.d reduction factors.is.als. pres.nted.
