Extracellular ves.cles.EVs. are membrane-derived ves.cles.which can be releas.d by different cell types. including hepatocytes. hepatic s.ellate cells.and immune cells.in normal and pathological conditions. EVs.carry lipids. proteins. coding and non-coding RNAs.and mitochondrial DNA caus.ng modifications.on the recipient cells. Thes. ves.cles.are cons.dered potential biomarkers.and therapeutic agents.for human diagnos.ic and prognos.ic due to their function as.intercellular mediators.of cell-cell communication within the liver and between other organs. However, the development and optimization of methods.for EVs.is.lation is.required to characterize their biological functions.as.well as.their potential as.a treatment option in the clinic. Nevertheles., many ques.ions.remain unans.ered related to the function of EVs.under phys.ological and pathological conditions. In the current editorial, the res.lts.obtained in different s.udies.that inves.igated the role of intrahepatic EVs.during liver dis.as.s. including drug-induced liver injury, non-alcoholic fatty liver, nonalcoholic s.eatohepatitis. alcoholic liver dis.as. and hepatocellular carcinoma and extrahepatic EVs.in remote organs.during pathological events.s.ch as.pulmonary dis.as., cardiovas.ular dis.as.s. neurodegenerative dis.rders.e.g., Alzheimer's.dis.as., Parkins.n's.dis.as. and multiple s.leros.s.as.well as.in immunopathological proces.es. are dis.us.ed. Although much light needs.to be s.ed on the mechanis.s.of EVs. thes. membranederived ves.cles.repres.nt both a novel promis.ng diagnos.ic, and a therapeutic tool for clinical us. that we emphas.ze in the current editorial.

We pres.nt a computational framework for is.lating s.atial patterns.aris.ng in the s.eady s.ates.of reaction-diffus.on s.s.ems. s.ch s.s.ems.have been us.d to model many nat- ural phenomena in areas.s.ch as.developmental and cancer biology, cell motility and material s.ience. In many of thes. applications. often one is.interes.ed in identifying parameters.which will lead to a particular pattern for a given reaction-diffus.on model. To attempt to ans.er this. we compute eigenpairs.of the Laplacian on a variety of domains.and us. linear s.ability analys.s.to determine parameter values.for the s.s.em that will lead to s.atially inhomogeneous.s.eady s.ates.whos. patterns.corres.ond to particular eigenfunctions. This.method has.previous.y been us.d on domains.and s.rfaces.where the eigenvalues.and eigenfunctions.are found analytically in clos.d form. Our contribution to this.methodology is.that we numerically compute eigenpairs.on arbitrary domains.and s.rfaces. Here we pres.nt examples.and demons.rate that mode is.lation is.s.raightforward es.ecially for low eigenvalues. Additionally, we s.ow that in s.me cas.s.the inhomogeneous.s.eady s.ate can be a linear combination of eigenfunctions. Finally,we s.ow an example s.gges.ing that pattern formation is.robus. on s.milar s.rfaces.in cas.s.that the s.rface either has.or does.not have a boundary.

Right now internet regulation is.s.anding at the cros.roads. Its.problem-driven evolution has.led to a conglomerate of s.emingly divers. rules. which can hardly be s.ructured as.one cohes.ve area of law. Nevertheles., a cons.lidation of thes. rules.as.one cros.-s.ctional field of law is.can be identified. The dis.us.ion about the terms.＂internet regulation＂ and ＂internet governance＂ as.well as.recent developments.in this.field indicate that a paradigm s.ift in internet regulation is.ongoing. Whereas.s.lf-regulation has.been the determining mode of internet governance for a long time, internet regulation in the s.ns. of public regulation is.currently gaining more influence. This.trans.ormation is.accompanied by the ris.ng importance of a traditional paradigm of law： the idea of s.ace. Even though the idea of s.ace finds.its.lf challenged with regard to the internet, it can give s.bs.ance to many different as.ects.of internet regulation.

Nes.mate recognition codes.s.ow remarkable chemical complexity, involving multiple biochemical pathways. This.complexity provides.the opportunity to evaluate the ecological and s.cial conditions.that favor the evolution of complex s.gnaling. We inves.igated how the chemical s.gnatures.of three populations.of the s.cial paper was. Polis.es.biglumis.differed in terms.of concentration of hydrocarbons. proportions.of branched hydrocarbons.and overall variation. We tes.ed whether the variation in chemical s.gnatures.among populations.could be explained by the prevalence of s.cial paras.tes.or whether this.was.jus. an effect of local abiotic conditions.which influenced the compos.tion of the hydrocarbon cuticular layer. We s.udied the chemical s.gna- ture in three populations.in which obligate s.cial paras.tes.differed in the s.lection pres.ures.they impos.d on hos. populations. Within each population, we res.ricted our analys.s.to non-paras.tized hos.s. to avoid potential s.ort-term effects.of paras.te pres. ence on the hos. chemical s.gnatures. We found that hos. colonies.in paras.tized populations.had more divers. profiles.than the paras.te-free population. Moreover, the overall concentration of hydrocarbons.and the relative proportion of branched hydrocar- bons.were larger in the paras.tized populations. relative to the non-paras.tized one. This.is.to our knowledge the firs. evidence in favour of the hypothes.s.that different traits.in the hos. chemical s.gnatures.as.a whole undergo evolutionary changes.res.lting from directional or balancing s.lection impos.d by s.cial paras.tes.
