Autologous chondrocytes(C cells)are effective sources of cell therapy for engineering cartilage tissue to repair chondral defects,such as degenerative *** expansion of cells with C cell characteristics has become a major challenge due to inadequate donor sites and poor proliferation of mature C *** perichondrial progenitor cells(P cells)from the cambium layer of the perichondrium possessed significantly higher mesenchymal stem cell markers than C *** the transwell co-culture system,P cells increased the passaging capacity of C cells from P6 to P9,and the cell number increased 128 *** system increased the percentage of Alcian blue-positive C cells from 40%in P6 to 62%in P9,contributing about 198 times more Alcian blue-positive C cells than the control group.C cells co-cultured with P cells also exhibited higher proliferation than C cells cultured with P cellconditioned *** results were obtained in nude mice that were subcutaneously implanted with C cells,P cells or a mixture of the two cell types,in which the presence of both cells enhanced neocartilage formation in ***,P cells enhanced the proliferation of C cells in a dose–dependent manner and prolonged the longevity of mature C cells for clinical applications.

The Jin-Neelin model for the El Nio–Southern Oscillation(ENSO for short) is considered for which the authors establish existence and uniqueness of global solutions in time over an unbounded channel domain. The result is proved for initial data and forcing that are sufficiently small. The smallness conditions involve in particular key physical parameters of the model such as those that control the travel time of the equatorial waves and the strength of feedback due to vertical-shear currents and upwelling; central mechanisms in ENSO *** the mathematical view point, the system appears as the coupling of a linear shallow water system and a nonlinear heat equation. Because of the very different nature of the two components of the system, the authors find it convenient to prove the existence of solution by semi-discretization in time and utilization of a fractional step scheme. The main idea consists of handling the coupling between the oceanic and temperature components by dividing the time interval into small sub-intervals of length k and on each sub-interval to solve successively the oceanic component, using the temperature T calculated on the previous sub-interval, to then solve the sea-surface temperature(SST for short) equation on the current sub-interval. The passage to the limit as k tends to zero is ensured via a priori estimates derived under the aforementioned smallness conditions.

Climate change impacts and forest adaptation in the Asia–Pacific region: from regional experts' perspectives

Expert opinions have been used in a variety of fields to identify relevant issues and courses of action. This study surveys experts in forestry and climate change from the Asia–Pacific region to gauge their perspectives on the impacts of climate change and on the challenges faced by forest adaptation in the region, and explores recommendations and initiatives for adapting forests to climate change. There was consensus regarding the impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems and on economic sectors such as agriculture and forestry. Respondents also indicated a lack of public awareness and policy and legislation as challenges to addressing climate change. However, the results indicate differences in opinion between regions on the negative impacts of climate change and in satisfaction with actions taken to address climate change,highlighting the need for locally specific policies and research. The study presents specific recommendations to address issues of most concern, based on subregion and professional affiliation throughout the Asia–Pacific *** results can be used to improve policy and forest management throughout the region. This research will also provide valuable suggestions on how to apply research findings and management recommendations outside of the AP region. The conclusions should be communicated relative to the level of the research and the target audience,ensuring that scientific findings and management recommendations are effectively communicated to ensure successful implementation of forest adaptation strategies.

Biodiversity and distribution of benthic dinoflagellates in tropical Zhongsha Islands,South China Sea

Benthic dinoflagellates have attracted increasing attention in recent years because of their toxicity and ability to form extensive harmful algal *** producing palytoxin and its analogs,Gambierdiscus producing ciguatera toxins,and Prorocentrum producing okadaic acid and dinophysis toxins,have been concerned as serious human *** explored the benthic dinoflagellate biodiversity and distribution characteristics of a series of tropical reefs in 20-40-m water depth in wet season in the Zhongsha Islands in South China Sea using morphological,phylogenetic,and cell counting *** show that benthic dinoflagellates in the islands are rich in biodiversity and 15 species from genera Amphidinium,Coolia,Ostreopsis,and Prorocentrum were identifi ed:Amphidinium carterae,***,***,***,Coolia canariensis,***,***,***,Ostreopsis ***,Prorocentrum concavum,***,***,*** fmannianum,***,and *** them,*** is reported for the first time in Chinese *** abundance of benthic dinoflagellates was relatively low at 88-4345 cells/100 cm^(2) on sediment and 10-91 cells/g on *** and Amphidinium were the dominant and subdominant genera,*** is speculated that the low abundance of benthic dinoflagellates is closely related to the scarcity of macroalgae and stronger water motion at the depth>15 m in Zhongsha *** study expanded the study in biodiversity of benthic dinoflagellates in Chinese waters,and revealed the distribution characteristics of harmful benthic microalgae in reef habitats.

As the interval following the biggest Phanerozoic mass extinction at the end of Permian, the Early Triassic is characterized by an immature, poorly functioned *** effects of these extreme environmental conditions can be mirrored by the changes in the δ13C record of marine ***, the details about the carbon isotopic composition and evolution of the Early Triassic seawater remain poorly understood.A dataset of new δ13C and δ18O values as well as selected major and trace element data (including concentrations of CaO, MgO, Mn, and Sr) was obtained from 113 marine carbonate samples collected in Eastern Sichuan *** isotopic and elemental data are used to evaluate effects of thermochemical sulfate reduction on δ*** δ13C values of a few samples affected by thermochemical sulfate reduction were *** combining carbonate δ13C results in our investigated sections, we constructed a composite curve of the lower *** results reveal a δ13C anomaly of carbonate rocks throughout the Early Triassic, accompanied by some rapid jumps and falls, such as those from approximately -2‰ to the extremely high value of 8‰ within a period of about 5 *** Early Triassic δ13C profile derived from Eastern Sichuan Basin shows a close correspondence with Guandao section in Guizhou Province, whereas it yields an excursion pattern differing from Chaohu section in Anhui Province of the lower Yangtze region (with the δ13C value from the minimum around -6‰ to the maximum near 4‰).The higher δ13C values and the positive carbon isotope excursions in the lower Triassic from Eastern Sichuan Basin were most likely a consequence of the principal environmental change that may include: (1) the barren land surface due to the absence of vegetation, (2) the loss of diverse marine invertebrate groups and marine carbonates, (3) the thriving of bacteria, algae and methanogenus in ocean ecosystems, and (4) the local effect of the repositories of isotopically light carbo

Effects of imidacloprid and thiamethoxam as seed treatments on the early seedling characteristics and aphid-resistance of oilseed rape

Seed treatments with the neonicotinoid insecticides imidacloprid and thiamethoxam were evaluated to determine whether the chemicals at effective concentrations for aphid control would influence the germination and early growth of oilseed rape,Brassica *** with imidacloprid or thiamethoxam did not affect the cumulative germination rate,but significantly inhibited establishment potential by suppressing root system development in the cotyledon ***,these alterations in seedling development in the thiamethoxam-treated seeds appeared not to be detrimental as leaves developed;in contrast,for the seedlings with imidacloprid as seed treatment agent,a significantly decreased shoot/root ratio was still evident at the late two-leaf *** two leaves developed,chlorophyll content per leaf in the thiamethoxam treatment was significantly higher than that of the control,while chlorophyll content per leaf in the imidacloprid treatment remained close to that in the *** other parameters,i.e.,height,leaf area,weight of stem,leaf or root,and other growth indexes,between the treatments and the control showed no significant ***,it was found that storage time of the treated seeds had a significant effect on cumulative germination *** 30 d before planting significantly reduced germination relative to that of the *** of the plants treated with neonicotinoids were shown to have significant anti-aphid characteristics that persisted until the end of the trial.

Mineralogy of Selected Paddy Soils in Southeastern China

limited information is available concerning the mineralogy of paddy soils in the southeastern *** chemical methods in conjunction with X-ray diffractometry, we studied the mineral composition of three paddy soils: Jinghua (paddy soil on Quaternary red clay), Fuyang (Hapl-percogenic loamy paddy soil), and Shaoxing (gleyic clayey paddy soil). All the soils contained quartz, mica, vermiculite, chlorite and kaolinite, and the distribution of these minerals varied with soil particle size fractions. The clay fraction of the F’uyang and Shaoxing soils also contained smectite. Although X-ray data did not show the presence of smectite in the Jinghua soil, this mineral was identified by the chemical method, suggesting a transitional property of the mineral in the soil. Hydroxy-Al interlayered minerals were also present in the clay *** amount of smectite in the soils was 31.6 (Shaoxing), 16.5 (Fuyang), and 21.4 (Jinghua) g kg-1; for vermiculite it was 33.3 (Shaoxing), 16.5 (Fuyang), and 8.5 (Jinghua) g kg-1. Smectite was only found in the clay fraction. In contrast, amounts of vermiculite in soil particle size fractions were 3.0～11.4 (sand),2.1～6.0 (coarse silt), 4.6～18.9 (medium silt), 0.9～40.0 (fine silt), and 17.0～108 (clay) g kg-1. The amount of noncrystalline aluminosilicates in the soils in g kg-1 decreased in the order: Shaoxing (2.4) > Jinghua (1.9) > Fuyang (1.7). This study has provided useful mineralogical information that is fundamental in future developmellt of management strategies of the soils.
