Metal complexes as organelle-targeting antitumor agents

Drug discovery and drug delivery are two main aspects for disease treatments. Increasing therapeutic index, including improving efficacy and minimizing toxicity, can surely be benefited from targeting transport and release of drugs. Compared to tissue targeting and cells targeting, organelle-targeting is more important because it is the intracellular therapeutic active site.[1] herein, series of organelle-target Ir（Ⅲ） and Ru（Ⅱ） complexes were developed.[2-4] The organelle specific were confirmed by co-staining with commercial dyes and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry（ICP-MS）. Their antitumor activities were examined in vitro and in vivo and the mechanism were also evaluated. On this basis, a tentative summary for the relationship between complex structure and organelle-targeting was presented.

Bright anti-Stokes fluorescence(ASF)in the first near-infrared spectral region(nIR-I,800 nm–900 nm)under the excitation of a 915 nm continuous wave(CW)laser,is observed in Indocyanine Green(ICG),a dye approved by the Food and Drug Administration for clinical *** dependence of fluorescence intensity on excitation light power and temperature,together with fluorescence lifetime measurement,establish this ASF to be originated from absorption from a thermally excited vibrational level(hot-band absorption),as shown in our experiments,which is stronger than the upconversion fluorescence from widely-used rare-earth ion doped *** test the utility of this ASF nIR-I probe for advanced bioimaging,we successively apply it for biothermal sensing,cerebral blood vessel tomography and blood stream ***,in combination with l1057 nanoparticles,which absorb the ASF of ICG and emit beyond 1100 nm,these two probes generate multi-mode images in two fluorescent channels under the excitation of a single 915 nm CW *** channel is used to monitor two overlapping organs,urinary system&blood vessel of a live mouse,while the other shows urinary system *** in intraoperative real-time monitoring,such multi-mode imaging method can be beneficial for visual guiding in anatomy of the urinary system to avoid any accidental injury to the surrounding blood vessels during surgery.

The thickness dependence of mechanical properties of nacre in Cristaria plicata shell was studied under three-point bending *** results show that the mechanical behavior of nacre exhibits a strong thickness *** bending strength firstly increases with the increase of specimen thickness and then becomes roughly constant as the thickness reaches a certain value of∼***,the mean value of work per unit volume increases constantly with increasing specimen thickness;meanwhile,the cracking mode changes from penetration into the platelets to deflection along the *** theoretical analyses indicate that the thickness-dependent mechanical properties of nacre are mainly caused by the variation in the number of inter-lamellar *** more the number of inter-lamellar interfaces is,the higher the strength and work of fracture of nacre under bending tests will ***,as the number of inter-lamellar interfaces reaches a certain value(e.g.,in the present specimen with 2.5mm thickness),the strength tends to remain constant,while the work of fracture still ***,the present research findings are expected to provide a valuable guidance for the interfacial design of nacre-like materials with high strength and toughness.

The biodiversity of natural or semi-natural native,old oak woodlands have high conservation importance,especially in landscapes of monocultural forest plantations and arable *** a wider variety of microhabitats and foraging sources,such old oak forests can provide essential habitat for native forest bird *** conducted a study using bird point counts to compare the forest bird communities of old pedunculate oak(Quercus robur)remnants with native and non-native plantations in central.h.ngary in a landscape of mostly arable fields,settlements,and monocultural *** surveys were carried out in old oak forest remnants,middle-aged oak,white poplar(Populus alba),hybrid poplar(Populus×euramericana),black locust(Robinia pseudoacacia),and pine(Pinus spp.)*** has been carried out in nine study sites,where all six habitat types were represented(with a few exceptions),to determine total abundance,species richness,Shannon–Wiener diversity,species evenness,dominant and indicator species,and guild *** found that old oak forest remnants were the most diverse habitats among the studied forest types,while hybrid poplar and pine plantations exhibited the lowest avian *** avian guilds most sensitive to the loss of old oak forest remnants were ground foragers,bark foragers,cavity-nesters,residents,and Mediterranean migratory *** habitats were more diverse than non-native *** results suggest that it is important to conserve all remaining high biodiversity old oak stands and to avoid clear-cutting of monocultural plantations in favour of practices such as mixed-species plantations,longer rotation lengths,or retention forestry.

It is necessary to understand all the prerequisites, which result in gas hydrate formation for safe design and control of a variety of processes in petroleum industry. Thermodynamic hydrate inhibitors (ThIs) are normally used to preclude gas hydrate formation by shifting hydrate stability region to lower temperatures and higher pressures. Sometimes, it is difficult to avoid hydrate formation and hydrates will form anyway. In this situation, kinetic hydrate inhibitors (KhIs) can be used to postpone formation of gas hydrates by retarding hydrate nucleation and growth rate. In this study, two kinetic parameters including natural gas hydrate formation induction time and the rate of gas consumption were experimentally investigated in the presence of monoethylene glycol (MEG), l-tyrosine, and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) at various concentrations in aqueous solutions. Since hydrate formation is a stochastic phenomenon, the repeatability of each kinetic parameter was evaluated several times and the average values for the hydrate formation induction times and the rates of gas consumption are reported. The results indicate that from the view point of hydrate formation induction time, 2 wt% PVP and 20 wt% MEG aqueous solutions have the highest values and are the best choices. It is also interpreted from the results that from the view point of the rate of gas consumption, 20 wt% MEG aqueous solution yields the lowest value and is the best choice. Finally, it is concluded that the combination of PVP and MEG in an aqueous solution has a simultaneous synergistic impact on natural gas hydrate formation induction time and the rate of gas consumption. Furthermore, a semi-empirical model based on chemical kinetic theory is applied to evaluate the hydrate formation induction time data. A good agreement between the experimental and calculated hydrate formation induction time data is observed.
