Major volcanic eruptions(MVEs)have attracted increasing attention from the scientific *** studies have explored the climatic impact of MVEs over the past two ***,proxy-based reconstructions and climate model simulations indicate divergent responses of global and China’s regional climates to ***,we used multiple data from observations,reconstructions,simulations,and assimilations to summarize the historical facts of MVEs,the characteristics and mechanisms of their climatic impact,and directions for future *** reviewed volcanic datasets and determined intensive MVE periods;these periods corresponded to the years 530–700,1200‒1460,and 1600‒1840 *** tropical MVEs,a substantial cooling effect is observed throughout the globe and China on the interannual-interdecadal time scales but an inconsistent cooling magnitude is detected between reconstructions and *** the first summer after tropical MVEs,a decrease in global and monsoonal precipitation is *** reconstructions and simulations,an increased precipitation is seen for the yangtze River Basin,while large uncertainties in precipitation changes are present for other regions of *** drought can be induced by frequent eruptions and volcanism superimposed on low solar irradiation and internal *** affect climate directly through the radiative effect and indirectly by modulating internal variability,such as the El Niño‒Southern Oscillation(ENSO)and Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation(AMO).However,changes in the phase,amplitude,and periodicity of ENSO and AMO after MVEs and the associated mechanisms remain controversial,which could account for model-reconstruction ***,other internal variability,uncertainties in reconstruction methods and aerosol‒climate models,and climate background may also induce model-reconstruction *** gaps and directions for future research are also discussed.

Effect of radiative loss mechanisms on FIR thermometric parameters of Nd^(3+)-doped lithium tellurite glasses

Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for thermometers based on the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)processes such as optical reabsorption and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd^(3+)emission,which has been little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluorescence thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dependence of the FIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the emission band profiles caused by optical reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.

Automatic modal identification via automatically interpreting the stabilization diagram provides key technique in bridge structural health *** paper reviews the progress in the area of automatic modal identification based on interpreting the stabilization *** whole identification process is divided into four steps from establishing the stabilization diagram to removing the outliers in the identification *** criteria and algorithms used in each step in the existing studies are carefully summarized and *** between typical methods in cleaning and interpreting the stabilization diagram are also *** structure benchmarks used in the existing studies to validate the proposed automatic modal identification methods are also *** on the review and comparison,the specific ratio method for cleaning the stabilization diagram,the hierarchical clustering method for interpreting the stabilization diagram and the adjusted boxplot for removing the outliers in the identification results are the most suitable methods for each *** key point of automatic modal identification based on interpreting the stabilization diagram has also discussed,and it is recommended to pay more attention to cleaning the stabilization *** study about automatic modal identification under situation with very few sensors deployed should be more *** review aims to help researchers and practitioners in implementing existing automatic modal identification algorithms effectively and developing more suitable and practical methods for civil engineering structures in the future.

Nest decoration:Black feathers prevent Crested Mynas from nest usurpation

Nests are important structures for birds to raise their offspring and for *** birds incorporate feathers into the nest,since feathers were traditionally thought to serve the function of *** in recent years have considered that some birds place feathers in conspicuous locations in the nest for decoration to trigger a fear response in the *** this study,we investigated whether decorative feathers could deter nest usurpation by Crested Mynas(Acridotheres cristatellus)by manipulating nest box *** results revealed that Crested Mynas preferred black feathers to white feathers as decorations and occupied nest boxes decorated with black feathers significantly less than those decorated with white feathers,suggesting that black decorative feathers in the nest could be more effective in preventing nest usurpation by Crested Mynas and that white decorative feathers may have other *** black feathers in the nest are prominently placed at the edge of the nest to convey the message that“this nest is occupied”or“the owner of this nest has been preyed upon”to visitor Crested Mynas,thus effectively preventing them from usurping the nest at a later stage.

AFM probe for measuring~10^(−5)ultra-low friction coefficient:Design and application

Superlubricity provides a novel approach to addressing friction and wear issues in mechanical ***,little is known regarding improving the atomic force microscope(AFM)friction coefficient measurement ***,this study established the theoretical formula for the AFM friction coefficient measurement and deduced the measurement ***,the formula was applied to the AFM probe with a rectangular cross-section *** measurement resolution is associated with the dimensional properties of the AFM probe,the mechanical properties of the cantilever material,the properties of the position-sensitive detector(PSD),and probably the anti-vibration performance of the *** is feasible to make the cantilever as short as possible and the tip as high as possible to improve the measurement *** AFM probe for measuring an ultra-low friction coefficient was designed and *** cantilever’s length,width,and thickness are 50,35,and 0.6μm,*** tip height is 23μ*** measurement resolution can reach 7.1×10^(−6) under the maximum normal ***,the AFM probe was applied to measure the superlubricity between graphene *** friction coefficient is 0.00139 under 853.08 *** work provides a promising method for measuring a~10^(−5) friction coefficient of superlubricity.

Forming process chain for manufacturing complex conical-section profiled rings:On a co-design method

The final quality of complex conical-section rings depends on co-design of multiple processes in forming process *** this study,for a complex aeroengine casing ring with a large slope and a flange on its end,a co-design method of the forming process chain is put forward towards the objective of precision forming,which not only proposes a standard process route composed of multiple processes of upsetting,punching,rectangular ring rolling,loose tooling forging and profiled ring rolling,but also presents co-design methods of dies and blanks for all the *** profiled ring rolling,a design method of preformed blank that makes the blank and the target conical-section ring have the same axial volume distribution is *** the method,the axial metal redistribution during the process can be alleviated greatly thus improving the forming stability and precision of the *** on the geometric features of designed preformed blank,design methods of blanks and dies for loose tolling forging,rectangular ring rolling,punching and upsetting are proposed *** view of the key roles of loose tooling forging(manufacturing the preformed blank)and profiled ring rolling on the final quality of the conical ring parts,inherited FE simulations for these two processes are performed to verify the proposed design methods and determine appropriate design *** is demonstrated that the proposed design method has significant advantages in improving forming ***,a suggestive value 1.5 of the rolling ratio for profiled ring rolling(a key design parameter)is given based on comprehensive consideration of multiple indicators such as ring roundness,deformation uniformity and forming *** corresponding industrial experiments performed illustrate that a high forming precision of the conical-section aeroengine casing ring is achieved.

Four late-type Galaxies with Double Radio lobes and Properties of Such Galaxies

The triggering mechanism for radio lobes from late-type galaxies is not fully *** samples are desired for a thorough investigation and *** utilizing the optical data from the newly released Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument imaging surveys and the radio sources from the NRAO VlA Sky Survey and the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-centimeter,we identify four late-type Galaxies with double Radio lobes(la GRls):J0217-3645,J0947+6220,J1412+3723 and J1736+*** previously known la GRls,we confirm the correlation between radio power P_(1.4GHz)and stellar mass M_(*)of host ***(25/35)la GRls belong to the blue cloud galaxies,while the newly identified cases in this work are located within the region of the red *** find a clear correlation between the differential radio power,i.e.,the offset from the P_(1.4GHz)-M_(*)relation,and the galaxy color,indicating that bluer galaxies at a fixed M_(*)tend to host more powerful radio ***,the majority(31/36)of la GRls are either located in a galaxy group or displaying a disturbed *** suggest that all of the galaxy mass,color and surrounding environment could play important roles in triggering radio lobes in late-type galaxies.

Seasonal increase in nest defense,but not egg rejection,in a cuckoo host

The interactions between avian brood parasites and their hosts provide an informative and easy-to-handle system for studying *** brood parasitism reduces the reproductive success of hosts,and thus,hosts have evolved anti-parasitic strategies,such as rejecting parasitic eggs and adopting aggressive nest defense strategies,to avoid the cost brought on by brood *** test whether host anti-parasitic strategies are adjusted with the risk of being parasitized when the breeding seasons of brood parasites and hosts are not synchronous,we conducted a field experiment assessing nest defense and egg recognition behaviors of the Isabelline Shrike(lanius isabellinus),a host of the Common Cuckoo(Cuculus canorus).In the local area,the host Isabelline Shrike begins to breed in April,whereas the summer migratory Common Cuckoo migrates to the local area in May and begins to lay parasitic *** showed that nest defense behaviors of the Isabelline Shrike increases significantly after cuckoo arrival,showing higher aggressiveness to cuckoo dummies,with no significant difference in attack rates among cuckoo,sparrowhawk and dove dummies,but their egg rejection did not change *** results imply that Isabelline Shrikes may adjust their nest defense behavior,but not egg rejection behavior,with seasonality.

The low Mach number limit of non-isentropic magnetohydrodynamic equations with large temperature variations in bounded domains

This paper verifies the low Mach number limit of the non-isentropic compressible magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)equations with or without the magnetic diffusion in a three-dimensional bounded domain when the temperature variation is large but *** uniform estimates of strong solutions are established in a short time interval independent of the Mach number,provided that the slip boundary condition for the velocity and the Neumann boundary condition for the temperature are imposed and the initial data is well-prepared.

HgaNets:Fusion of Visual Data and Skeletal Heatmap for Human Gesture Action Recognition

Recognition of human gesture actions is a challenging issue due to the complex patterns in both visual andskeletal features. Existing gesture action recognition (GAR) methods typically analyze visual and skeletal data,failing to meet the demands of various scenarios. Furthermore, multi-modal approaches lack the versatility toefficiently process both uniformand disparate input ***, in this paper, an attention-enhanced pseudo-3Dresidual model is proposed to address the GAR problem, called HgaNets. This model comprises two independentcomponents designed formodeling visual RGB (red, green and blue) images and 3Dskeletal heatmaps, *** specifically, each component consists of two main parts: 1) a multi-dimensional attention module forcapturing important spatial, temporal and feature information in human gestures;2) a spatiotemporal convolutionmodule that utilizes pseudo-3D residual convolution to characterize spatiotemporal features of gestures. Then,the output weights of the two components are fused to generate the recognition results. Finally, we conductedexperiments on four datasets to assess the efficiency of the proposed model. The results show that the accuracy onfour datasets reaches 85.40%, 91.91%, 94.70%, and 95.30%, respectively, as well as the inference time is 0.54 s andthe parameters is 2.74M. These findings highlight that the proposed model outperforms other existing approachesin terms of recognition accuracy.
