A new target design is presented to model high-energy radiative accretion shocks in polars. In this paper, we present the experimental results obtained on the GEKKO XII laser facility for the POlAR project. The experimental results are compared with 2 D FCI2 simulations to characterize the dynamics and the structure of plasma flow before and after the collision. The good agreement between simulations and experimental data confirms the formation of a reverse shock where cooling losses start modifying the post-shock region. With the multi-material structure of the target,a hydrodynamic collimation is exhibited and a radiative structure coupled with the reverse shock is highlighted in both experimental data and simulations. The flexibility of the laser energy produced on GEKKO XII allowed us to produce high-velocity flows and study new and interesting radiation hydrodynamic regimes between those obtained on the lUlI2000 and Orion laser facilities.

In this paper, we present a model characterizing the interaction of a radiative shock(RS) with a solid material, as described in a recent paper(Koenig et al., Phys. Plasmas, 24, 082707(2017)), the new model is then related to recent experiments performed on the GEKKO XII laser facility. The RS generated in a xenon gas cell propagates towards a solid obstacle that is ablated by radiation coming from the shock front and the radiative precursor, mimicking processes occurring in astrophysical phenomena. The model presented here calculates the dynamics of the obstacle expansion,which depends on several parameters, notably the geometry and the temperature of the shock. All parameters required for the model have been obtained from experiments. Good agreement between experimental data and the model is found when spherical geometry is taken into account. As a consequence, this model is a useful and easy tool to infer parameters from experimental data(such as the shock temperature), and also to design future experiments.

Capillary Electrophoresis for the Simultaneous Determination of Metals by Using Ethylenediamine Tetraacetic Acid as Complexing Agent and vancomycin as Complex Selector

A new separation system of capillary electrophoresis for the simultaneous determination of metals by using ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid （EDTA） as complexing agent and employing vancomycin as complex selector was described. The Z-shape cell capillary electrophoresis was used to enhance the sensitivity for the determination of the complexes of Cu（Ⅱ）, Ni（Ⅱ）, Co（Ⅱ） and Fe（Ⅲ） with EDTA. The partial filling method （co-current mode） was used in order to increase the selectivity of the electrophoretic method, meanwhile vancomycin was not present at the detector path during the detection of metal-EDTA complexes. The vancomycin concentration, phosphate concentration and pH of the buffer strongly influenced mobility, resolution and selectivity of the studied analytes. Under the optimal condition, the relative standard deviations （n=5） of the migration time and the peak area were less than 3.14% and 7.35%, respectively. Application of the Z-shape cell capillary electrophoresis method with UV detection and vancomycin loading led to the reliable determination of these metal ions in tap water and the recoveries were 97%-101%. The detection limits based on a signal to noise ratio of 3 ： 1 were found in the range of 2-10 μg·l^-1.

Structure and Deformation of Intermetallic Beryllides

Intermetallic beryllides are potential light-weight, high-temperature structural materials. In this paper. the processing techniques, microstructure. deformation, and oxidation properties of intermetallic beryllides are described. In addition to nickel beryllides (NiBe). which is treated as a model *** high beryllium-containing refractory beryllides, such as Nb2 Be17. VBe12. are also *** room temperature deformation and high-temperature creep properties of these beryllides are repor4ed. At room temperature. NiBe exhibits certain tensile ductility (~ 1 .3%). but all other beryllides are essentially brittle. Nonetheless, these beryllides become ductile at temperatures above approximately 1000℃. Their creep properties are presented. The creep properties are compared with those of intermetallic aluminides. Also. a comparison is made between the ductile-to-brittle transition behaviour of intermetallic beryllides and that of aluminides. Although beryllides are generally oxidation resistant at high temperatures, some beryllides, e.g., ZrBe13, suffer the pest reaction during oxidation at intermediate tem peratures. Deformation of metallic glasses with special emphasis in supercooled liquid region

Upon deforming a metallic glass at low temperatures, shear tends to localize and this leads to a brittle behavior. However, in the high temperature, and particularly in the supercooled liquid region, homogeneous deformation begins to take place. A bulk amorphous Zr 10Al 5Ti 17.9Cu 14.6Ni alloy was observed to exhibit the Newtonian behavior at low strain rates but becomes non Newtonian at high strain rates in the supercooled liquid region. Structures of the amorphous material, both before and after deformation, were examined using X ray diffraction and high resolution electron microscopy. Results showed the presence of nanocrystallites in the deformed samples. Thus, the non Newtonian behavior is attributable to the concurrent crystallization of the amorphous structure during deformation. A mechanistic model is presented to interpret the observed non Newtonian result. A phenomenological approach is also used to develop the deformation map for bulk metallic glasses in the supercooled liquid region.

Water Vapor Variability in the Tropical Western Pacific from 20-year Radiosonde Data

The 20-year (1976-1995) daily radinsonde data at 17 stations in the tropical western Pacific was ana- lyzed. The analysls shows that the atmosphere is more humid in a warmer climate on seasonal,inter-annual and long-term (20-year) time scales, implying a positive water vapor feedback The vertlcal structure of the long-term trends in relative humidity (RH) is distinct from that on short-term (seasonal and inter-annual) time scales, suggesting that observed water vapor changes on short time scales could not be considered as a surrogate of long-term climate change. The increasing trend of RH (3%-5% / decade) in the upper troposphere is stronger than that in the lower troposphere (1 %-2% / decade). Such verthal structure would amplify positive water vapor feedback in comparison to the common assumption of constant RH changes vertically. The empicical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis of vertical structure of RH varmtions shows distinct features of the vert1cal structure of the first three EOFs. The first three EOFs are optimal for repre- sentation of water vapor profiles and provide some hints on physical mechanisms respons1ble for observed humidity variability. Vaisala radiosondes were used at nine stations, and VIZ radiosondes used at other eight stations The Vaisala data are corrected for temperature-dependence error using the correction siheme developed by NCAR / ATD and Vaisala. The comparison of Vaisala and VIZ data shows that the VIZ-measured RHs after October 1993 have a moist bias of - 10% at RHs l changes in- cluding both instruments and reporting practice have been made at Vaisala stations and introduce errors to long-term RH variations.

Effects on Sum and Difference Patterns by Adaptive Null

This paper presents a simple method of forming sum and difference patterns with adaptivenulls. The effects on the sidelobe level and the pointing null of difference pattern by adaptive null areanalyzed. The result that the increment value of the envelope of the sidelobe level under the effect ofa null is less than l.6dB is proved. The formula about shift value of the pointing null which is thefunction of the jammer direction and array parameters is given in the paper.
