Biocompatibility and biotoxicity of in-situ synthesized carboxylated nanodiamond-cobalt oxide nanocomposite

A nanocomposite that incorporates cobalt oxide（Co3O4） and nanodiamond（ND） can present both high magnetism（Co3O4） and high hardness（ND）. ND particles have potential applications in a variety of fields such as protein immobilization, biosensors, therapeutic molecule delivery and bio-imaging. However,limited information is available in literature on the in-situ synthesis of biocompatible magnetic materials and also on their potential biotoxicity as a result of their entry into environmental compartments and subsequent interaction with biota. In this work, a new kind of bio-compatible magnetic material –carboxylated nanodiamond（c ND） and Co3O4 was synthesized to obtain the c ND-Co3O4 *** synthesis procedure involved in-situ and chemical reduction of cobalt chloride（CoCl（26）H2O） and sodium borohydrate（NaBH4）. The synthesized cND-Co3O4 nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The cyto-genotoxicity of the synthesized nanocomposite material was studied by using onion（Allium cepa l.） as a test model with concentrations of 5, 10 and 20 μg/ml. The study was also extended to cND and Co3O4 materials for comparison purpose. Co3O4 and cND exhibited their contrasting effects on mitosis and other cyto-genotoxic indices studied herein. This work provided fundamental data on the synthesis and the bio-toxicity of the c ND-Co3O4 nanocomposite, which, in turn, can help to expand their multidisciplinary applications.

This study is focused on the simulation and optimization of packed-bed solar thermal energy storage by using sand as a storage material and hot-water is used as a heat transfer fluid and storage as *** analysis has been done by using the COMSOl multi-physics software and used to compute an optimization charging time of the *** that control this optimization are storage height,storage diameter,heat transfer fluid flow rate,and sand bed particle *** result of COMSOl multi-physics optimized thermal storage has been validated with Taguchi ***,the optimized parameters of storage are:storage height of 1.4m,storage diameter of 0.4 m,flow rate of 0.02 kg/s,and sand particle size 12 *** these parameters,the storage diameter result is the highest influenced optimized parameter of the thermal storage fromthe ANOVA *** nominal packed bed thermal storage,the charging time needed to attain about 520 K temperature is more than 3500 s,while it needs only about 2000 s for the optimized storage which is very significant *** charging energy efficiency of the optimized is greater than the nominal and previous concrete-based storage by 13.7%,and 13.1%,respectively in the charging time of 2700 s.

Heat pipes are most frequently used for thermal management *** of right type of heat pipe for a specific scenario is utmost necessary for best *** purpose of this research is comparison of thermal performance characteristics of sintered copper wicked and grooved heat pipes,which are mostly used types of heat *** water filled heat pipes were tested through experimentation in gravity assisted *** outcomes have been compiled in terms of capillary pressure,operating temperature,thermal resistance and heat transfer *** pressure is high in sintered heat pipes compared to grooved heat pipes irrespective of groove *** heat pipes have lower operating temperature compared to sintered heat pipes at the same heat *** 8 W,compared to sintered heat pipes,grooved heat pipes have 8.24% lower condenser surface temperature,4.41% lower evaporator surface temperature and 7.79% lower saturation *** resistance of sintered heat pipe is much lower than grooved heat *** maximum relative difference of 63.8% was observed at 8 *** transfer coefficient of sintered heat pipe was observed double compared to grooved heat pipe at 8 W heat *** resistance and hence heat transfer coefficient of sintered heat pipe change almost in a linear manner with respect to heat load but unexpectedly turning point is observed in thermal resistance and heat transfer coefficient of grooved heat *** heat pipes attain equilibrium much earlier compared to sintered *** heat loads from 4 to 20 W causes variation in equilibrium establishment time from 7 to 4 min for grooved and from 10 to 7 min for sintered heat pipes.

Deep learning Based Process Analytics Model for Predicting Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Process analytics is one of the popular research domains that advanced in the recent *** analytics encompasses identification,monitoring,and improvement of the processes through knowledge extraction from historical *** evolution of Artificial Intelligence(AI)-enabled Electronic Health Records(EHRs)revolutionized the medical *** 2 Diabetes Mellitus(T2DM)is a syndrome characterized by the lack of insulin *** not diagnosed and managed at early stages,it may produce severe outcomes and at times,death *** Kidney Disease(CKD)and Coronary Heart Disease(CHD)are the most common,long-term and life-threatening diseases caused by ***-fore,it becomes inevitable to predict the risks of CKD and CHD in T2DM *** current research article presents automated Deep learning(Dl)-based Deep Neural Network(DNN)with Adagrad Optimization Algorithm i.e.,DNN-AGOA model to predict CKD and CHD risks in T2DM *** paper proposes a risk prediction model for T2DM patients who may develop CKD or *** model helps in alarming both T2DM patients and clinicians in *** first,the proposed DNN-AGOA model performs data preprocessing to improve the quality of data and make it compatible for further ***,a Deep Neural Network(DNN)is employed for feature extraction,after which sigmoid function is used for ***,Adagrad optimizer is applied to improve the performance of DNN *** experimental validation,benchmark medical datasets were used and the results were validated under sev-eral *** proposed model achieved a maximum precision of 93.99%,recall of 94.63%,specificity of 73.34%,accuracy of 92.58%,and F-score of 94.22%.The results attained through experimentation established that the pro-posed DNN-AGOA model has good prediction capability over other methods.

Muskingum equation based downstream sediment flow simulation models for a river system

Applications of sediment transport and water flow characteristics based sediment transport simulation models for a river system are presented in this *** existing water-sediment model and a new sediment-water model are used to formulate the simulation models representing water and sediment movement in a river *** sediment-water model parameters account for water flow characteristics embodying sediment transport properties of a *** models are revised formulations of the multiple water inflows model describing water movement through a river system as given by the Muskingum *** models are applied to a river system in Mississippi River basin to estimate downstream sediment concentration,sediment discharge,and water *** system and the river section parameters are estimated using a revised and the original multiple water inflows models by applying the genetic *** models estimate downstream sediment transport rates on the basis of upstream sediment/water flow rates to a *** performance is evaluated by using standard statistical criteria;downstream water discharge resulting from the original multiple water inflows model using the estimated river system parameters indicate that the revised models satisfactorily describe water movement through a river *** obtained in the study demonstrate the applicability of the sediment transport and water flow characteristics-based simulation models in predicting downstream sediment transport and water flow rates in a river system.

Improved Photoresponse of UV Photodetectors by the Incorporation of Plasmonic Nanoparticles on Ga N Through the Resonant Coupling of localized Surface Plasmon Resonance

Very small metallic nanostructures,i.e.,plasmonic nanoparticles(NPs),can demonstrate the localized surface plasmon resonance(lSPR)e ect,a characteristic of the strong light absorption,scattering and localized electromagnetic field via the collective oscillation of surface electrons upon on the excitation by the incident *** lSPR of plasmonic NPs can significantly improve the photoresponse of the *** this work,significantly enhanced photoresponse of UV photodetectors is demonstrated by the incorporation of various plasmonic NPs in the detector *** size and elemental composition of monometallic Ag and Au NPs,as well as bimetallic alloy Ag Au NPs,are fabricated on Ga N(0001)by the solid-state dewetting *** photoresponse of various NPs are tailored based on the geometric and elemental evolution of NPs,resulting in the highly enhanced photoresponsivity of 112 A W-1,detectivity of 2.4×1012 Jones and external quantum e ciency of 3.6×104%with the high Ag percentage of Ag Au alloy NPs at a low bias of 0.1 *** Ag Au alloy NP detector also demonstrates a fast photoresponse with the relatively short rise and fall time of less than 160 and 630 ms,*** improved photoresponse with the Ag Au alloy NPs is correlated with the simultaneous e ect of strong plasmon absorption and scattering,increased injection of hot electrons into the Ga N conduction band and reduced barrier height at the alloy NPs/Ga N interface.

Ammonia has been recognized as the future renewable energy fuel because of its wide-ranging applications in H_(2) storage and transportation *** order to avoid the environmentally hazardous Haber-Bosch process,recently,the third-generation ambient ammonia synthesis has drawn phenom-enal attention and thus tremendous efforts are devoted to developing efficient electrocatalysts that would circumvent the bottlenecks of the electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction(NRR)like competitive hydrogen evolution reac-tion,poor selectivity of N_(2) on catalyst ***,we report the synthesis of an oxygen-functionalized boron carbonitride matrix via a two-step pyrolysis *** conductive BNCO(1000)architecture,the compatibility of B-2p_(z) orbital with the N-2p_(z) orbital and the charging effect over B due to the C and O edge-atoms in a pentagon altogether facilitate N_(2) adsorption on the B edge-active *** optimum electrolyte acidity with 0.1 M HCl and the lowered anion crowding effect aid the protonation steps of NRR via an associative alternating pathway,which gives a sufficiently high yield of ammonia(211.5μg h^(−1) mg_(cat)^(−1))on the optimized BNCO(1000)catalyst with a Faradaic efficiency of 34.7%at−0.1 V vs *** work thus offers a cost-effective electrode material and provides a contemporary idea about reinforcing the charging effect over the secured active sites for NRR by selectively choosing the electrolyte anions and functionalizing the active edges of the BNCO(1000)catalyst.

Role of surgery and transplantation in the treatment of hepatic metastases from neuroendocrine tumor

Neuroendocrine tumors(NET) are a heterogeneous group of cancers, with indolent behavior. The most common primary origin is the gastro-intestinal tract but can also appear in the lungs, kidneys, adrenals, ovaries and other organs. In general, NET is usually discovered in the metastatic phase(40%-80%). The liver is the most common organ involved when metastases occur(40%-93%), followed by bone(12%-20%) and lung(8%-10%).A number of different therapeutic options are available for the treatment of hepatic metastases including surgical resection, transplantation, ablation, trans-arterial chemoembolization, chemotherapy and somatostatin analogues. Recently, molecular targeted therapies have been used, usually in combination with other treatment options, to improve outcomes in patients with metastases. This article emphasizes on the role of surgery in the treatment of liver metastases from NET.
