We describe the development of quinolylnitrones(QNs)as multifunctional ligands inhibiting cholinesterases(ChEs:acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase—h BChE)and monoamine oxidases(hMAO-A/B)for the therapy of neurodegenerative *** identified QN 19,a simple,low molecular weight nitrone,that is readily synthesized from commercially available *** 19 has no typical pharmacophoric element to suggest ChE or MAO inhibition,yet unexpectedly showed potent inhibition of h BChE(iC50=1.06±0.31 nmol/l)and h MAO-B(iC_(50)=4.46±0.18μmol/l).The crystal structures of 19 with hBChE and hMAO-B provided the structural basis for potent binding,which was further studied by enzyme *** 19 acted as a free radical scavenger and biometal chelator,crossed the blood—brain barrier,was not cytotoxic,and showed neuroprotective properties in a 6-hydroxydopamine cell model of Parkinson's *** addition,in vivo studies showed the anti-amnesic effect of 19 in the scopolamine-induced mouse model of AD without adverse effects on motoric function and ***,chronic treatment of double transgenic APPswe-PS1δE9 mice with 19 reduced amyloid plaque load in the hippocampus and cortex of female mice,underscoring the disease-modifying effect of QN 19.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a serious inflammatory disease with rising incidence both in the adult and pediatric populations. it has been shown that mitochondrial injury and energy depletion are the earliest intracellular events in the early phase of AP. Moreover, it has been revealed that restoration of intracellular ATP level restores cellular functions and defends the cells from death. We have recently shown in a systematic review and meta-analysis that early enteral feeding is beneficial in adults; however, no reviews are available concerning the effect of early enteral feeding in pediatric AP. in this minireview, our aim was to systematically analyse the literature on the treatmentof acute pediatric pancreatitis. The preferred reporting items for systematic review(PRiSMA-P) were followed, and the question was drafted based on participants, intervention, comparison and outcomes: P: patients under the age of twenty-one suffering from acute pancreatitis; i: early enteral nutrition (per os and nasogastric- or nasojejunal tube started within 48 h); C: nil per os therapy; O: length of hospitalization, need for treatment at an intensive care unit, development of severe AP, lung injury (including lung oedema and pleural effusion), white blood cell count and pain score on admission. Altogether, 632 articles (Pub Med: 131; EMBASE: 501) were found. After detailed screening of eligible papers, five of them met inclusion criteria. Only retrospective clinical trials were available. Due to insufficient information from the authors, it was only possible to address length of hospitalization as an outcome of the study. Our mini-meta-analysis showed that early enteral nutrition significantly(SD = 0.806, P = 0.034) decreases length of hospitalization compared with nil per os diet in acute pediatric pancreatitis. in this minireview, we clearly show that early enteral nutrition, started within 24-48 h, is beneficial in acute pediatric pancreatitis. VlF/lF (20 - 300 kHz) radio waves propagation is affected by different factors such as meteorological conditions, solar bursts and geomagnetic activity. At the same time, variations of some parameters in the ground, in the atmosphere and in the ionosphere occurring during the preparatory phase of earthquakes can produce disturbances in the propagation of the previous signals along their radio paths: these disturbances are the radio precursors. Since 2009, several VlF/lF radio receivers have been installed throughout Europe in order to realize a European (VlF/lF) radio network for studying the VlF/lF radio precursors of earthquakes, called the iNFREP network. in this paper, at first the description of the present situation of the iNFREP network is presented, that is: the location of the receivers, the location of the VlF/lF transmitters whose signal is sampled, the daily download of the data collected by the receivers on the iNFREP server and the method of data analysis used in order to individuate possible radio precursors. Then the results obtained on the occasion of recent (2016-2017) seismic activities which occurred in the “sensitive” zone of the iNFREP network are presented. The first case examined is the October 30, 2016 earthquake with Mw = 6.5, which occurred in Central italy, near Norcia small town;this earthquake was preceded by a strong shock (Mw = 5.9) which occurred 4 days before. The second case presented is the strong (Mw = 6.7) offshore earthquake which occurred on July 20, 2017, near the coast of Turkey and kos island (Greece) and the third case is the August 8, 2017 earthquake with Mw = 5.0, which also occurred near the coast of Turkey and kos island (Greece). in all the previous cases radio anomalies were revealed in some radio signals collected by the receiver located in Cyprus. Background： in the early stages of atrial remodeling, aortic stiffness might be an indication of an atrial myopathy, in particular, atrial fibrosis. This study aimed to investigate the association between left atrial （lA） mechanical function, assessed by two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography, and aortic stiffness in middle-aged patients with tile first episode of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation （AF）. Methods： This prospective study included 34 consecutive patients with the first episode of AF, who were admitted to kartal kos.;uyolu Research and Training Hospital between May 2013 and October 2015, and 31 age- and gender-matched healthy controls. During the 1^st month （mostly in the first 2 weeks） following their first admission, 34 patients underwent the first pulse wave measurements. Then, 21 patients were recalled for their second pulse wave measurement at 11.8 ± 6.0 months following their initial admission. Echocardiographic and pulse wave findings were compared between these 34 patients and 31 healthy controls. We also compared the pulse wave and echocardiographic findings between the first and second measurements in 21 patients. Results： Pulse wave analysis showed no significant differences between tile AF patients and healthy controls with respect to PWV （ 10.2 ± 2.5 m/s vs. 9.7 ± 2.1 m/s： P = 0.370）, augmentation pressure （9.6 ± 7.4 mmHg vs. 9. 1± 5.7 mmHg; P = 0.740）, and aortic pulse pressure （AoPP; 40.4 ± 14.0 mmHg vs. 42. 1 ±7.6 mmHg, P = 0.550）. The first lA positive peak of strain was inversely related to the augmentation pressure （r 0.30; P = 0.02） and aortic systolic pressure （r - 0.26, P - 0.04）. Comparison between the two consecutive pulse wave measurements in 21 patients showed similar results, except for AoPP. in 21 patients, the AoPP at the second measurement （45.1± 14.1 mmHg） showed a significant increase compared with AoPP at the first measurement （39.0 ±10.6 mmHg, P = 0.028）, which was also higher than that of healthy controls （42.1
