In this study the copper and lead adsorption efficiency onto banana peels powder was investigated. The agroindustrial waste recovery represents one of the Circular Economy pillars. In the view of the synthesis of an environmentally friendly adsorbent material, the powder was used without any preliminary chemical or thermal activation, but only after simple washing, drying and grinding. The bio-adsorbent was characterized by the FTIR technique and tested in batch mode on synthetic aqueous solutions containing Pb and Cu in the range 10–90 mg·l^(-1). A selection of two(langmuir, Freundlich) and three(Sips, Redlich–Peterson, Koble–Corrigan) parameter isotherm models was chosen to fit adsorption equilibrium data by non-linear regression procedure. The best fit isotherm model was selected relying on the error function with the lowest average percentage error(APE) value, among those characterized by the highest R^2 values. As expected, the three-parameter models are found to better represent both metals bio-adsorption, with APE and R^2 values always lower and higher, respectively, than the corresponding values obtained for the two-parameter models.

Breast cancer(BC)is the most common cancer among women,and current available therapies often have high success ***,BC might acquire drug resistance and sometimes *** knowledge about the most aggressive forms of BC points to the role of specific cells with stem properties located within BC,the so-called“BC stem cells”(BCSCs).The role of BCSCs in cancer formation,growth,invasiveness,therapy resistance and tumor recurrence is becoming increasingly *** growth and metastatic properties of BCSCs are regulated by different pathways,which are only partially *** steroid receptors(SSRs),which are involved in BC etiology and progression,promote BCSC proliferation,dedifferentiation and ***,in the literature,there is incomplete information about their ***,there are contrasting conclusions about the expression and role of the classical BC hormonal biomarkers,such as estrogen receptor alpha(ERα),together with scant,albeit promising information concerning ER beta(ERβ)and androgen receptor(AR)properties that control.different transduction pathways in *** this review,we will.discuss the role that SRs expressed in BCSCs play to BC progression and recurrence and how these findings have opened new therapeutic possibilities.

AIM: To investigate the efficacy and safety of ranibizumab(RZB group) and dexamethasone implant(DEX group) intravitreal treatments in patients with treatment-na?ve center involved diabetic macular edema(DME) by means of functional and morphological ***: This retrospective cohort study included 50 eyes of 50 patients with DME treated either with RBZ or DEX. Best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA) and microperimetry were evaluated at baseline and during a 6-month follow-up. In addition, central macular thickness(CMT) by means of structural optical coherence tomography(OCT) and retinal capillary plexus density and choriocapillary density by means of OCT angiography were assessed in all ***: Functional and morphological parameters significantly improved during the study period in both groups. BCVA improved significantly in both groups witha greater increase in the DEX group compared to the RBZ group(P=0.030). Microperimetry significantly differed during follow-up between the two treatments(P=0.031). In both groups CMT significantly decreased(Plly significant differences between the two groups. A statistically significant increase of deep capillary plexus density was detected in both groups at 30 d after therapy. The retreatment rate was 0.70±0.10 and 0.65±0.10 in the RBZ group and 0.65±0.10 and 0.50±0.11 in DEX group at 120 and 180 d respectively. Two out of 25 patients in DEX group showed intraocular pressure increase requiring hypotonic eye ***: Both treatments are very effective for DME treatment during 6 mo of follow-up with a lower retreatment rate in DEX group.

Hydrocarbons separation in petrochemical industries is a key,energy-consuming stage in the manufacture of high-quality added-value products—hence the need for more efficient materials and environmentally friendly methodologies to improve this *** this context,we have studied the effect of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)pore functionalization in hexane isomers separation,isolating the robust isoreticular zinc(ll)bipyrazolates Zn(BPZ),showing no pore decoration,Zn(Me_(2)BPZ),the pores of which are decorated with apolar methyl groups,and Zn(BPZ(NH_(2))_(2)),the spacers of which possess polar lewis-basic functions(H_(2)BPZ=1H,1'H-4,4'-bipyrazole;H_(2)Me_(2)BPZ=3,3'-dimethyl-1H,1'H-4,4'-bipyrazole;H_(2)BPZ(NH_(2))_(2)=3,5-diamino-1H,1'H-4,4'-bipyrazole;DMF=dimethylformamide).After characterizing Zn(BPZ(NH_(2))_(2))as per its crystal structure and thermal behaviour,and all the three MOFs as per their textural properties,we investigated,from the experimental and computational points of view,the impact of the square one-dimensional channels decoration on the separation of the hexane isomers,demonstrating the relevance of pore constrictions in the resolution of the title alkanes mixture.

Geochemical Evaluation of the Permian Ecca Shale in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa:Implications for Shale Gas Potential

Shale gas has been the exploration focus for future energy supply in South Africa in recent time. Specifically, the Permian black shales of the Prince Albert, Whitehill, Collingham, Ripon and Fort Brown Formations are considered to be most prospective rocks for shale gas exploration. In this study,outcrop and core samples from the Ecca Group were analyzed to assess their total organic carbon(TOC), organic matter type, thermal maturity and hydrocarbon generation potential. These rocks have TOC ranging from 0.11 to 7.35 wt%. The genetic potential values vary from 0.09 to 0.53 mg HC/g,suggesting poor hydrocarbon generative potential. Most of the samples have Hydrogen Index(HI) values of less than 50 mg HC/g TOC, thus suggesting Type-Ⅳ kerogen. Tmax values range from 318℃ to601℃, perhaps indicating immature to over-maturity of the samples. The vitrinite reflectance values range from 2.22% to 3.93%, indicating over-maturity of samples. Binary plots of HI against Oxygen Index(OI), and HI versus Tmax show that the shales are of Type II and mixed Type Ⅱ-Ⅲ *** on the geochemical data, the potential source rocks are inferred as immature to over-matured and having present-day potential to produce gas.

We report a numerical method to analyze the fractal characteristics of far-field diffraction patterns for two-dimensional Thue-Morse (2-D TM) structures. The far-field diffraction patterns of the 2-D TM structures can be obtained by the numerical method, and they have a good agreement with the experimental ones. The analysis shows that the fractal characteristics of far-field diffraction patterns for the 2-D TM structures are determined by the inflation rule, which have potential applications in the design of optical.diffraction devices.
