Peripheral nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. Since the availability of autologous nerve transplants for nerve repair is very limited, alternative treatment strategies are sought, including the use of tubular nerve guidance conduits(tNGcs). However, the use of tNGcs results in poor functional recovery and central necrosis of the regenerating tissue, which limits their application to short nerve lesion defects(typically shorter than 3 cm). Given the importance of vascularization in nerve regeneration, we hypothesized that enabling the growth of blood vessels from the surrounding tissue into the regenerating nerve within the tNGc would help eliminate necrotic processes and lead to improved regeneration. In this study, we reported the application of macroscopic holes into the tubular walls of silk-based tNGcs and compared the various features of these improved silk^(+) tNGcs with the tubes without holes(silk^(–) tNGcs) and autologous nerve transplants in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomography and histological analyses, we were able to prove that the use of silk^(+) tNGcs induced the growth of blood vessels from the adjacent tissue to the intraluminal neovascular formation. A significantly higher number of blood vessels in the silk^(+) group was found compared with autologous nerve transplants and silk^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at the distal coaptation point compared with the silk^(–) tNGcs at 7 weeks postoperatively. In the 15-mm(critical size) sciatic nerve defect model, we again observed a distinct ingrowth of blood vessels through the tubular walls of silk^(+) tNGcs, but without improved functional recovery at 12 weeks postoperatively. Our data proves that macroporous tNGcs increase the vascular supply of regenerating nerves and facilitate improved axonal regeneration in a short-defect model but not in a critical-size defect model. The behavior of matrix converter(Mc) drive systems under the condition of Mc short-circuit faults is comprehensively investigated. Two isolation strategies using semiconductors and high speed fuses(HSFs) for Mc short-circuit faults are examined and their performances are compared. The behavior of Mc drive systems during the fuse action time under different operating conditions is explored. The feasibility of fault-tolerant operation during the fuse action time is also studied. The basic selection laws for the HSFs and the requirements for the passive components of the Mc drive system from the point view of short-circuit faults are also discussed. Simulation results are used to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed isolation strategies.

This paper presents the results from unidirectional shaking table tests of two reduced scale steel models of a building frame, with one and two floors, respectively. These frames incorporate friction dissipators at every floor. The inputs are sine-dwells and artificial and registered earthquakes. This study is part of a larger research project aiming to assess the seismic efficiency of friction dissipators by means of an integrated numerical and experimental approach. Inside this framework, the main objectives of these experiments are to：（i） collect a wide range of results to calibrate a numerical model derived within the project, （ii） clarify some of the most controversial issues about friction dissipators （including behavior for inputs containing pulses, capacity to reduce resonance peaks, introduction of high frequencies in the response, and self- generated eccentricities）, （iii） better understand their dynamic behavior, （iv） provide insight on the feasibility and reliability of using simple friction dissipators for seismic protection of building structures and （v） characterize the hysteretic behavior of these devices. Most of these objectives are satisfactorily reached and relevant conclusions are stated.

The SeridóBelt,at the extreme northeast of Brazil,is one of the several Neoproterozoic mobile belts related to the Brasiliano/Pan-African Orogeny in Western *** lithostratigraphy of the SeridóBelt comprises basal quartzites and metaconglomerates(Equador Formation)overlain by hornblende-bearing paragneisses,calc-silicate rocks and marbles(Jucurutu Formation)and biotiteschists(SeridóFormation).We investigated the sedimentary provenance of these rocks based on an integration of compiled whole-rock geochemistry,Sm-Nd isotopes,U-Pb detrital zircon ages and a new set of whole-rock trace elements *** Formation quartzites have major and trace elements patterns that resemble cratonic sandstones,with a typical felsic provenance consistent with the isotopic composition of plutonic Archean to Paleoproterozoic basement *** proxies suggest that these rocks were deposited in fresh waters under anoxic conditions and moderate to intense weathering conditions(cIA=58–79).A shift in provenance led to an increase in intermediate-mafic sources during the deposition of the Jucurutu and Seridó*** elements from rock types in these units are nearly identical,yet they differ on the contents of some high field-strength elements(e.g.,Sc,V and Ni),which are higher in the SeridóFormation than average *** proxies show similar depositional environments,with brackish to marine conditions for the Jucurutu and Seridóformations under anoxic to euxinic *** conditions are consistently lower in the Jucurutu Formation(cIA=58–66)in comparison with the SeridóFormation(cIA=60–88).compiled U-Pb data suggest maximum depositional ages of 633±11 Ma and 633±6 Ma for Jucurutu and Seridóformations,respectively,suggesting deposition following the ca.645–635 Ma Marinoan *** compared the geochemistry of the SeridóFormation schists with currently exposed basement rocks and showed a strong affinity with Neoproterozoic arc-related

The emergence of new technological tools for territorial analysis,such as cloud-based GIS,or GIS viewers,compels us to closely examine its usefulness in geographic education. Specifically,it raises the professors and teachers’ questions: what to teach? how to teach? and what will students learn? This research responds to these three questions by interviewing Spanish experts who know how to use these tools to teach geography at university and secondary school levels. The delphi technique was applied to achieve this,which established consensus and led to the following results from experts’ own experience: (1) that GIS help to understand territory in an experiential and non-memoristic way and (2) they enable the development of spatial thinking. This paper concludes that changes in methodologies and integrate technical knowledge into teacher training are needed.

A series of lanthanide materials of type lnOcl or ln2O3(ln = Eu, Nd) were successfully prepared via a convenient and straightforward two-step procedure. Firstly, and by using chitosan and PS-co-P4 VP as polymeric supports, macromolecular complexes of type chitosan ·lncl3and PS-co-P4 VP·lncl3 were prepared. These macro molecular complexes were treated in solid state at 800 ℃ under air, leading to the corresponding lnOcl or ln2O3materials(ln = Eu, Nd) with moderate to good yields. The nature of the asprepared lanthanide materials(lnOcl and/or ln2O3) is strongly influenced by the polymeric template(i.e.,chitosan or PS-co-P4 VP), the lanthanide salt precursor, and the polymer/lanthanide molar ratio. Thus, when chitosan · Eucl3and PS-co-P4 VP·Eucl3are used as macromolecular precursors, a mixture of crystalline phases of both EuOcl and Eu2O3are obtained. However, when chitosan· Ndcl3and PS-co-P4 VP· Ndcl3are used, a sole pure crystalline phase of NdOcl is obtained. The nano structured lanthanide materials were characterized by means of XRD(X-ray diffraction of powder), SEM, EDS, TEM, and HRTEM. The luminescent spectra of the asprepared EuOcI/Eu2O3mixture materials show an emission pattern whose intensity is strongly influenced by the nature of the polymeric precursor, as well as on the metal/polymer molar ratios.
