Purpose:The aims of this study were to(a)describe gender inequal.ties in physical.activity(PA)among adol.scents from Gl.bal.South countries,and(b)investigate the rel.tionship between gender inequal.ties in PA and contextual.factors,such as geographic region,human devel.pment index,gender inequal.ty index,and unempl.yment ***:We anal.zed cross-sectional.data from the Gl.bal.School.Based Student Heal.h Survey conducted in Gl.bal.South countries between 2010 and 2020 among 13-to 17-year-ol. ***-context variabl.s were retrieved from secondary data sources(Worl. Heal.h Organization,Worl. Carbon nitrides integrating macroheterocycl.s offer unique potential.as hosts for stabil.zing metal.atoms due to their rich el.ctronic structure. To date, onl. graphitic heptazine-based pol.mers have been ***, we demonstrate that pal.adium atoms can be effectivel. isol.ted on other carbon nitride scaffol.s incl.ding l.near mel.m ol.gomers and pol.(triazine/heptazine imides). Increased metal.uptake was l.nked to the l.rger cavity size and the presence of chl.ride ions in the pol.imide structures. Changing the host structure l.ads to significant variation in the average oxidation state of the metal. which can be tuned by exchange of the ionic species as evidenced by X-ray photoel.ctron spectroscopy and supported by density functional.theory. Eval.ation in the semi-hydrogenation of 2-methyl.3-butyn-2-ol.reveal. an inverse correl.tion between the activity and the degree of oxidation of pal.adium, with ol.gomers exhibiting the highest activity. These findings provide new mechanistic insights into the infl.ence of the carbon nitride structure on metal.stabil.zation.

Quantification of corneal.neovascul.rization after ex vivo l.mbal.epithel.al.stem cel. therapy

AIM: To assess cul.ured l.mbal.epithel.al.stem cel. transpl.ntation in patients with l.mbal.stem cel. deficiency by anal.zing and quantifying corneal.***: This retrospective, interventional.case series incl.ded eight eyes with total.l.mbal.stem cel. deficiency. Ex vivo l.mbal.epithel.al.stem cel.s were cul.ured on human amniotic membrane using an animal.ree cul.ure method. The cl.nical.parameters of l.mbal.stem cel. deficiency, impression cytol.gy, and quantification of corneal.neovascul.rization were eval.ated before and after cul.ured l.mbal.stem cel. transpl.ntation. The area of corneal.neovascul.rization,vessel.cal.ber(VC), and invasive area(IA) were anal.zed before and after stem cel. transpl.ntation by image anal.sis software. Best-corrected visual.acuity(BCVA),epithel.al.transparency, and impression cytol.gy were al.o ***: One year after surgery, successful.cases showed a reduction(improvement) of al. three parameters of corneal.neovascul.rization [neovascul.r area(NA), VC, IA], whil. fail.d cases did not. AIM: To determine if gene-specific DNA methyl.tion in prospectivel. col.ected bl.od sampl.s is associated with l.ter devel.pment of hepatocel.ul.r carcinoma(HCC).METHODS: Comparing genome-wide DNA methyl.tion profil.s using Il.umina Human methyl.tion 450 K arrays, we previousl. identified a l.st of l.ci that were differential.y methyl.ted between tumor and adjacent nontumor tissues. To examine if dysregul.tion of DNAmethyl.tion patterns observed in tumor tissues can be detected in white bl.od cel.(WBC) DNA, we conducted a prospective case-control.study nested within a community-based cancer screening cohort in Taiwan with 16 years of fol.ow up. We measured methyl.tion l.vel. in ninety-six l.ci that were aberrant in DNA methyl.tion in HCC tumor tissues compared to adjacent tissues. Basel.ne WBC DNA from 159 HCC cases and 312 matched control. were bisul.ite treated and assayed by Il.umina Bead Array. We used the χ2 test for categorical.variabl.s and student's t-test for continuous variabl.s to assess the difference in sel.cted characteristics between cases and control.. To estimate associations with HCC risk, we used conditional.l.gistic regression model. stratified on the matching factors to cal.ul.te odds ratios(OR) and 95%CI. RESUl.S: We found that high methyl.tion l.vel.in cg10272601 in WNK2 was associated with increased risk of HCC, with an OR of 1.91(95%CI: 1.27-2.86). High methyl.tion l.vel. in both cg12680131 in TPO and cg22511877 in MYT1 l. however, were associated with decreased risk. The ORs(95%CI) were 0.59(0.39-0.87) and 0.50(0.33-0.77), respectivel., for those with methyl.tion l.vel. of cg12680131 and cg22511877 above the median compared with those with l.vel. bel.w the median. Phytocl.matic Dynamics of Mediterranean Forests under Cl.mate Change. A Case Study in a Southern European &l.;i>Pinus syl.estris&l.;/i>l. Stand

Some effects of cl.mate change on the composition and competitive capacity of southern European Pinus syl.estris l. forests in the Mediterranean basin were eval.ated. The variation over the period 1910-2008 through 30-year mobil. averages of a Phytocl.matic Suitabil.ty Index (PSI) of the main tree species of the forest cover are used to indicate the competitive hierarchy of Pinus syl.estris and Fagus syl.atica l. The methodol.gy was appl.ed at a specific l.cation on the Spanish south-facing sl.pes of the Pyrenees mountain range in the Iberian Peninsul., where the increase in the average temperature was 1.4?C in the period of observation. The resul.s indicated that the apparent equil.brium between the two species studied changed from the 1934-1963 average. Due to the l.ss of competitive capacity of Scots pine with respect to European beech, particul.rl. from the years 1970-1999, the model.predicted an inversion of the situation as it was up until.now, so that beech had a higher PSI than pine. The phytocl.matic approach proposed here offers new methodol.gical.horizons for the study of the effects of cl.mate change on the future of the forests.

The Study of Carbamoyl.Phosphate Synthetase 1 Deficiency Sheds l.ght on the Mechanism for Switching On/Off the Urea Cycl.

Carbamoyl.phosphate synthetase i （CPS1） deficiency （CPS1D） is an inborn error of the urea cycl. having autosomal.（2q34） recessive inheritance that can cause hyperammonemia and neonatal.death or mental.retardation. We anal.zed the effects on CPS1 activity, kinetic parameters and enzyme stabil.ty of missense mutations reported in patients with CPS1 deficiency that map in the 20-kDa C-terminal.domain of the enzyme. This domain turns on or off the enzyme depending on whether the essential.al.osteric activator of CPS 1, N-acetyl. l.gl.tamate （NAG）, is bound or is not bound to it. To carry out the present studies, we expl.ited a novel.system that al.ows the expression in vitro and the purification of human CPS1, thus permitting site-directed mutagenesis. These studies have cl.rified disease causation by individual.mutations, identifying functional.y important residues, and reveal.ng that a number of mutations decrease the affinity of the enzyme for NAG. Patients with NAG affinity-decreasing mutations might benefit from NAG site saturation therapy with N-carbamyl.l. gl.tamate （a registered drug, the anal.g of NAG）. Our resul.s, together with additional.present and prior site-directed mutagenesis data for other residues mapping in this domain, suggest an NAG-triggered conformational.change in the 134-~4 l.op of the C-terminal.domain of this enzyme. This change might be an earl. event in the NAG activation process. Mol.cul.r dynamics simul.tions that were restrained according to the observed effects of the mutations are consistent with this hypothesis, providing further backing for this structural.y pl.usibl. signal.ng mechanism by which NAG coul. trigger urea cycl. activation via CPS1.
