A model.buil. to inves.igate reduced genetic divers.ty in Pl.is.ocene hominins.s.ows.that genetic hitchhiking can have a s.rong effect on neutral.divers.ty in the pres.nce of cul.ural.y mediated mi- gration. Under conditions.in which genetic and cul.ural.variants.are trans.itted s.mmetrical.y, neutral.genes.may al.o hitchhike to higher frequencies.on the coattail. of adaptive cul.ural.traits.through a proces. cal.ed cul.ural.hitchhiking. Cul.ural.hitchhiking has.been propos.d to expl.in why s.me s.ecies.of matril.neal.whal.s.dis.l.y rel.tivel. l.w l.vel. of mitochondrial.DNA diver- s.ty, and it may be appl.cabl. to humans.as.wel.. This.paper provides.a critical.review of recent model. of both types.of hitch- hiking in s.cial.y s.ructured popul.tions. The dail. operational.anal.s.s.and fore-cas.s.(up to day-5) of the National.Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecas.ing (NCMRWF), India, over the As.an s.mmer mons.on domain for the period June, Jul. and Augus. of 1995 are made us. for the purpos.. The s.s.ematic errors.as.ociated with the l.w l.vel.fl.w del.neate, reduction in the s.rength of trade winds.l.ading to weakening of cros. equatorial.fl.w as.wel. as.wes.erl. fl.w over Indian Ocean. The upper l.vel.errors.connote weakening of Tibetan anticycl.ne and reduction in the s.rength of return fl.w into the s.uthern Hemis.here. Further, thes. errors.evince growing tendency with increas. in the forecas. period. Apart from the general.underes.imation of kinetic energy budget terms. the model.forecas.s.fail.to repres.nt the trans.ent eddies. Rana Gruber As.is.a mining company s.tuated in northern Norway, jus. s.uth of the artic circl.. The hematite/magnetite ore is.l.w grade, s.eepl. dipping and intens.vel. fol.ed. The company excavates.about 1.2 mil.ion tonnes.of ore annual.y. The mining method is.s.bl.vel.s.oping. The final.products.are a hematite concentrate and different magnetite-products. The bits.and bytes.bas.d methods.and s.s.ems.impl.mented for production pl.nning and control.ing are pres.nted in the paper. Focus.is.on geol.gical.model.ing, util.s.tion of variations.in the depos.t and as.ociated uncertainty accumul.ting throughout the val.e chain. The methods.and s.s.ems.enabl. the mining department in greater extent than before, to del.ver fragmented ore according to the s.ecifications.given by the proces.ing pl.nt.

We des.ribe an inexpens.ve and rel.abl. detector for meas.ring NO emitted in the gas.phas. from pl.nts. The method rel.es.on the us. of a s.rong oxidizer to convert NO to NO2 and s.bs.quent capture of NO2 by a Gries. reagent trap. The s.t-up approaches.the s.ns.tivity for NO comparabl. to that of ins.ruments.bas.d on chemil.mines.ence and photoacous.ic detectors. We demons.rate the util.ty of our s.t-up by meas.ring NO produced by a variety of wel. es.abl.s.ed pl.nt s.urces. NO produced by nitrate reductas. （NR） in tobacco l.aves.and barl.y al.urone was.readil. detected, as.was.the production of NO from nitrite by the incubation medium of barl.y al.urone. Arabidops.s.mutants.that overproduce NO or l.ck NO-s.nthas. （AtNOs.） al.o dis.l.yed the expected NO s.nthes.s.phenotype when as.ayed by our s.t-up. We coul. al.o meas.re NO production from el.citor-treated s.s.ens.on cul.ured cel.s.us.ng this.s.t-up. Further, we have focus.d on the detection of NO by a widel. us.d fl.ores.ent probe 4-amino-5-methyl.mino-2＇,7＇-difl.orofl.ores.ein （DAF-FM）. Our work points.to the pitfal.s.that mus. be avoided when us.ng DAF-FM to detect the production of NO by pl.nt tis.ues. In addition to the dramatic effects.that pH can have on fl.ores.ence from DAF-FM, the widel. us.d NO s.avengers.2-phenyl. 4,4,5, 5-tetramethyl.midazol.ne- 1-oxyl.3-oxide （PTIO） oxide （cPTIO） can produce anomal.us.and unexpected to bind to dead cel.s.and remain NO-s.ns.tive. and 2-（4-carboxyphenyl.-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl.midazol.ne- 1-oxyl.3- res.l.s. Perhaps.the mos. s.rious.drawback of DAF-FM is.its.abil.ty to bind to dead cel.s.and remain NO-s.ns.tive.
