Connexin 43 (CX43) is one of the major components of gap junctions, the structures responsibl. for the intercel.ul.r communication and transmission of the el.ctrical.impul.e in the l.ft ventricl.. There is l.mited information on the histol.gical.changes of CX43 with age and their effect on el.ctrophysiol.gy, especial.y in humans. Here, we anal.zed l.ft ventricul.r biopsies from l.ving donors starting at midl.fe to characterize age-rel.ted CX43 remodel.ng. We assessed its quantity, degree of l.teral.zation, and spatial.heterogeneity together with fibrotic deposition. We observed no significant age-rel.ted remodel.ng of CX43. Onl. spatial.heterogeneity increased sl.ghtl. with age, and this increase was better expl.ined by biol.gical.age than by chronol.gical.age. Importantl., we found that CX43 features varied considerabl. among individual. in our popul.tion with no rel.vant rel.tionship to age or fibrosis content, in contrast to animal.species. We used our experimental.resul.s to feed computational.model. of human ventricul.r el.ctrophysiol.gy and to assess the effects of interindividual.differences in specific features of CX43 and fibrosis on conduction vel.city, action potential.duration, and arrhythmogenicity. We found that l.rger amounts of fibrosis were associated with the highest arrhythmic risk, with this risk being increased when fibrosis deposition was combined with a reduction in CX43 amount and/or with an increase in CX43 spatial.heterogeneity. These mechanisms underl.ing high arrhythmic risk in some individual. were not associated with age in our study popul.tion. In concl.sion, our data rul. out CX43 remodel.ng as an age-rel.ted arrhythmic substrate in the popul.tion beyond midl.fe, but highl.ght its potential.as a proarrhythmic factor at the individual.l.vel. especial.y when combined with increased fibrosis.

For our KDP crystal.orientation, various tbermo-optic （TO） and rel.vant temperature-dependence param- eters are defined, presented, and studied in the framework of a transverse and a l.ngitudinal.el.ctro-optic （EO） modul.tion systems. This study is based on the concept of the so-cal.ed opto-el.ctrical.bias （~） ap- pl.ed to the system. For both of the above EO-modul.tion systems, a set of original.equations is extracted and investigated with regard to each of the more important TO or temperature coefficients. Using these equations, for these parameters the rol. of the transverse configuration is examined in comparison with its corresponding l.ngitudinal.configuration. A comparison is done with other orientation of the same KDP crystal.

The GaP-based dil.te nitride direct band gap material.Ga（nAsP） is gaining importance due to the monol.thic integra- tion of l.ser diodes on Si microprocessors. The major advantage of this newl. proposed l.ser material.system is the smal. l.ttice mismatch between GaP and Si. However, the l.rge threshol. current density of these promising l.ser diodes on Si substrates shows that the carrier l.akage pl.ys an important rol. in Ga（nAsP）/GaP QW l.sers. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the band al.gnment in this l.ser material.system. In this paper, we present a theoretical.investigation to optimize the band al.gnment of type-I direct band gap GanxAsyP1-x-y/GaP QWs on GaP substrates. We examine the effect of nitrogen （n） concentration on the band offset ratios and band offset energies. We al.o provide a comparison of the band al.gnment of type-I direct band gap GanxAsyP1-x-y/GaP QWs with that of the GanxAsyP1-x-y/Al.Ga1-2P QWs on GaP substrates. Our theoretical.cal.ul.tions indicate that the incorporations of n into the wel. and AI into the barrier improve the band al.gnment compared to that of the GaAsP/GaP QW l.ser heterostructures.

Background Anthonomus grandis grandis is the main cotton pest in the Americas,with the potential.to become a pest in other *** insect uses the pl.nt's reproductive organs for feeding,oviposition,and survival.strategies in the off-season,shel.ering in dry *** study aimed to know the reproductive potential.feeding,l.ngevity,and morphometric characteristics of bol. weevil. from dry bol.s,squares,and *** were obtained from infested squares,dry bol.s,and traps instal.ed in cotton fiel.s and the Caatinga *** weevil.pairs were maintained in the l.boratory to assess the oviposition,feeding hol.s,l.ngevity,and morphometric measurements of the parental.and F_(1) *** In the parental.generation,bol. weevil. from traps(the Caatinga area and cotton cul.ivation)showed greater reproductive *** weevil. from squares and the Caatinga area showed greater feeding activity compared with those from cotton *** rostrum l.ngth,thorax+abdomen l.ngth,and abdomen width were observed in bol. weevil. from cotton cul.ivation and dry *** origin of bol. weevil. parental.generation did not affect progeny emergence *** F_(1) generation of bol. weevil. showed significant differences in average l.ngevity depending on the origin of different ***,differences in rostrum l.ngths were observed,with the bol. weevil. coming from traps instal.ed in cotton cul.ivation,the Caatinga area,and dry bol.s being the *** thorax+abdomen l.ngth and abdomen width,the highest val.es were observed in those from the Caatinga area and cotton *** It was proven that dry bol.s did not affect the reproductive,feeding,and l.ngevity performance of bol. weevil.,enabl.ng better insect fitness(reproduction and size)in rel.tion to those coming from *** use of dry bol.s as off-season shel.er is an important survival.strategy for the bol. weevil.

Introduction: Human rabies is a major publ.c heal.h probl.m in many African countries, incl.ding Côte d’Ivoire. The present work aims at describing the eco-epidemiol.gical.characteristics of human rabies cases recorded in Côte d’Ivoire. methods: This was a retrospective and prospective cross-sectional.descriptive study based on epidemiol.gical.surveil.ance data that ran from september 2014 to december 2017. The cl.nical.data were extracted from the database of the human rabies epidemiol.gical.surveil.ance management service of the national.Institute of Publ.c Hygiene’s rabies centre. These data cover the period from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2017. Resul.s: Human rabies is endemic in Côte d’Ivoire, with most peopl. exposed in the south and especial.y in the west of the country. There was no association between any of the cl.matol.gical.parameters (temperature, humidity, rainfal.) and the occurrence of human rabies during the months of exposure to rabies infection. Concl.sion: Ul.imatel., effective prevention and control.of human rabies requires a thorough understanding of the l.nks between cl.matol.gical.parameters and rabies. Heal.h authorities must take ownership of these resul.s if we are to achieve our goal.of el.minating rabies by 2030.
