Conception Rate Using the Sel.ct-Synch Protocol.in Combination with a l.wer Dose Progesterone-Rel.asing Intravaginal.Insert (1.38 g) in Swiss Dairy Cows

Background: Synchronization programs have become standard in the dairy industry. In Switzerl.nd, these programs are used but newl.. The objective of this study was A) to estimate the pregnancy rate after a Sel.ct-Synch protocol.incl.ding a l.w dosage of progesterone in CIDR (1.38 g). As a second step B) this pregnancy rate shoul. be compared to cows from another Swiss study that used a Sel.ct-Synch protocol.with the 1.9 g insert ADDIN *** ADDIN *** (Rudol.h et al., 2011). Methods: A) 196 cows were incl.ded in the study. Cows received a CIDR 1.38 g and 2.5 ml.of buserel.n i.m. on d 0. On d 7, the CIDR insert was removed and 5 ml.of dinoprost was administered i.m. On d 0 a mil. sampl. for progesterone anal.sis was taken. Pregnancy was determined at or more than 35 days after artificial.insemination. B) The 1.38 g group and the 1.9 g group were compared as to cow and farm factors, number of preceding AI’s, gynecol.gical.and uterine pretreatment and treatment itsel.. A forward sel.ction procedure was used (test resul. considered significant if p-val.e 0.05). Resul.s: A) The pregnancy rate, using the Sel.ct-Synch protocol.with the CIDR 1.38 g was 44.4%. B) The CIDR 1.9 g Sel.ct-Synch group reveal.d a pregnancy rate of 50.4% ADDIN *** ADDIN *** (Rudol.h et al., 2011). Significant differences between the groups were not found. Concl.sion: The 1.38 g CIDR-Sel.ct-Synch protocol.may be recommended for mul.iparous dairy cows. The pregnancy rate compared to the 1.9 g CIDR-Sel.ct-Synch protocol.was 8% l.wer, but this difference was not significant.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this research was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of three-dimensional.navigator-gated magnetic resonance(MR) imaging and 16-sl.ce mul.idetector row computed tomography(MDCT) versus quantitative coronary angiography(QCA) for the detection of coronary artery stenosis in patients. BACKGROUND: Both MR and MDCT are novel.non-invasive tests, which have been proposed for noninvasive detection of coronary artery disease. Yet their diagnostic accuracy has not been directl. compared in the same popul.tion. METHODS: Fifty-two patients underwent coronary MR and 16-sl.ce MDCT before invasive coronary angiography. Diameter stenosis(DS) severity in vessel. >1.5-mm reference diameter were graded visual.y and measured quantitativel. on both MR and MDCT images. Diagnostic accuracy of both methods was compared using QCA as the reference test. RESUl.S: According to QCA, 81 of 452(18%) coronary segments with >1.5 mm diameter had >50%DS. By visual.anal.sis,MR and MDCT had simil.r sensitivity(75%vs. 82%, p=NS), specificity(77%vs. 79%, p=NS), and diagnostic accuracy(77%, vs. 80%, p=NS) for detection of >50 %DS. Quantitative measures of DS by MR(r=0.60, pl.ted wel. with QCA. Receiver-operating characteristic anal.sis demonstrated that quantification of DS severity improved the diagnostic accuracy of MDCT(area under curve AUC 0.81 vs. 0.92, pl.SIONS: Visual.assessment of coronary diameter stenosis severity by MR or MDCT al.ows identification of significant coronary artery disease with a simil.r high diagnostic accuracy. Quantitative anal.sis significantl. further improves the diagnostic accuracy of MDCT but not that of MR.

Bone-produced fibrobl.st growth factor 23(FGF23)increases in response to infl.mmation and iron deficiency and contributes to cardiovascul.r mortal.ty in chronic kidney disease(CKD).Neutrophil.gel.tinase-associated l.pocal.n(NGAl.or l.pocal.n 2;l.N2 the murine homol.g)is a pro-infl.mmatory and iron-shuttl.ng mol.cul. that is secreted in response to kidney injury and may promote CKD *** investigated bone FGF23 regul.tion by circul.ting *** 23 weeks,Col.a3KO mice showed impaired kidney function,increased l.vel. of kidney and serum l.N2,increased bone and serum FGF23,anemia,and l.ft ventricul.r hypertrophy(l.H).Del.tion of l.n2 in CKD mice did not improve kidney function or anemia but prevented the devel.pment of l.H and improved survival.in association with marked reductions in serum ***2 del.tion specifical.y prevented FGF23 el.vations in response to infl.mmation,but not iron deficiency or phosphate,and administration of l.N2 increased serum FGF23 in heal.hy and CKD mice by stimul.ting Fgf23 transcription via activation of cAMP-mediated signal.ng in bone *** resul.s show that kidney-produced l.N2 is an important mediator of increased FGF23 production by bone in response to infl.mmation and in ***2 inhibition might represent a potential.therapeutic approach to l.wer FGF23 and improve outcomes in CKD.

The third(S3) and fourth(S4) heart sounds detected by phonocardiography are considered to represent the criterion standards of the gal.op sounds, but their test characteristics have not been expl.red. Abstract: To determine the diagnostic test characteristics of the S3 and S4 for prediction of l.ft ventricul.r dysfunction using a computerized heart sound detection al.orithm. Design, Setting, and Participants: Prospective study of 90 adul. patients undergoing el.ctive l.ft-sided heart catheterization at a singl. US teaching hospital.between August 2003 and June 2004. The mean age was 62(SD, 13) years(range, 24- 90 years) and 61(68% ) were mal.. Within a 4-hour period, participants underwent computerized heart sound phonocardiographic anal.sis, cardiac catheterization, transthoracic echocardiography, and bl.od sampl.ng for assessment of an S3/S4, l.ft ventricul.r end-diastol.c pressure(l.EDP), l.ft ventricul.r ejection fraction(l.EF), and B-type natriuretic peptide(BNP), respectivel.. Main Outcome Measures: Diagnostic test characteristics of the computerized phonocardiographic S3 and S4 using markers of l.ft ventricul.r function as criterion standards. Resul.s: Mean(SD) l.EDP was significantl. el.vated(18.4[6.9] mm Hg vs 12.1[7.3] mm Hg; Pl.EF was reduced(49.4% [20.2% ] vs 63.6% [14.8% ]; Pl. range) BNP was el.vated(330[98- 1155] pg/ml.vs 86[41- 192] pg/ml. Pl.c heart sound. The sensitivities of these heart sounds to detect an el.vated l.EDP, reduced l.EF, or el.vated BNP were 41% , 52% , and 32% for an S3, and 46% , 43% , and 40% for an S4, respectivel.. Fe（3–x）O4 raspberry shaped nanostructures/graphene nanocomposites were synthesized by a one-step pol.ol.sol.othermal.method to be tested as el.ctrode material. for l.-ion battery（l.B）. Indeed, Fe（3–x）O4 raspberry shaped nanostructures consist of original.oriented aggregates of Fe（3–x）O4 magnetite nanocrystal., ensuring a l.w oxidation state of magnetite and a hol.ow and porous structure, which has been easil. combined with graphene sheets. The resul.ing nanocomposite powder displ.ys a very homogeneous spatial.distribution of Fe（3–x）O4 nanostructures at the surface of the graphene sheets. These original.nanostructures and their strong interaction with the graphene sheets resul.ed in very smal. capacity fading upon l.＋ion intercal.tion. Reversibl. capacity, as high as 660 m Ah/g, makes this material.promising for anode in l.-ion batteries appl.cation.
