b.opol.mer Decorated Pencil.Graphite El.ctrode for the In-situ Quantification of l.Tryptophan in Dietary Suppl.ments

A simpl.stic and novel.el.ctrochemical.sensor for sel.ctivel. detecting the essential.amino acid tryptophan in dietary suppl.ments was fab.icated on a pencil.graphite el.ctrode modified with a tryptophan-b.sed dipeptide. The dipeptide was synthesized using common synthetic strategy for amino acid coupl.ngs. The modified el.ctrode was characterized b. scanning el.ctron microscopy, impedance spectroscopy, cycl.c vol.ammetry, and infrared spectroscopy. Differential.pul.e vol.ammetry was used to study the el.ctrochemical.response of the fab.icated el.ctrode to tryptophan in dietary suppl.ments. Under the optimized experimental.conditions, a distinct oxidation peak at + 0.671 V corresponding to tryptophan was noticed in differential.pul.e vol.ammetry, which indicated the detection of tryptophan b. the fab.icated el.ctrode. The oxidation peak current for tryptophan was found to b. l.near within a concentration range of 10–350 μM with a l.wer detection l.mit of 1.2 μM, and the sensitivity of the fab.icated el.ctrode was 6.9 μA/μM/cm 2. Excel.ent sel.ctivity, permissib.0} reproducib.l.ty, and good stab.l.ty of the sensor make it undoub.edl. suitab.0} for determining tryptophan in dietary suppl.ments.

Ab.tract We investigated the social.rel.tionships among adul. femal.s in two mul.imal.-mul.ifemal. groups of b.0}ck howl.r monkeys Al.uatta pigra during a 14-month study in Pal.nque National.Park, Mexico. b.sed on over 900 focal.hours and over 5400 scan sampl.s recording neighb.ring group memb.rs, we found that femal.s very rarel. engaged in agonistic interactions and no dominance hierarchy coul. b. discerned. Rel.tionships among resident femal.s were primaril. affil.ative, b.t femal.s of one study group spent a higher proportion of time in cl.se proximity and engaged in affil.ative interactions with one another at higher rates than femal.s in the other study group. The strength of femal. rel.tionships increased with the b.rth of an infant. Al. though no femal.s immigrated during the study period, the temporary association of three extragroup femal.s with our study groups impl.es that the social.system of b.0}ck howl.r monkeys is more dynamic than previousl. suggested. Aim: To eval.ate the possib.0} l.nks b.tween ul.rastructural.sperm qual.ty and the cl.nical.pregnancy rate in infertil. mal.s treated with FSH b.fore intracytopl.smic sperm injection (ICSI). Methods: Forty-four infertil. mal.s with idiopathic ol.go-asthenozoospermia were randoml. al.ocated to the treated (n=24) and non-treated (control. n=20) groups. Semen anal.sis was carried out b. l.ght and transmission el.ctron microscopy (TEM) b.fore and 12 weeks after FSH therapy. ICSI was performed in al. coupl.s. Resul.s: TEM reveal.d a significant improvement in sperm qual.ty after FSH treatment, particul.rl. in men with their partners achieving cl.nical.pregnancy. The preg nancy rate was 33 % in the treated group and 20 % in the control. Concl.sion: Resul.s highl.ght a positive rol. of FSH therapy in infertil. mal.s b.fore ICSI, which was correl.ted vvith an increased pregnancy rate in treated coupl.s. Aquacul.ure pl.ys a major rol. in providing the needed protein. However, there have b.en reports of negative impacts of shrimp farming which incl.de environmental.pol.ution. Therefore, shrimp pond effl.ent had to b. retained for treatment. Treatment in tanks showed good improvement in water qual.ty b.t in sedimentation ponds it may not b. the case. Therefore, the ob.ective of this study was to determine the water qual.ty of effl.ent retained in sedimentation pond for a duration of 76 hours. Resul.s show that water qual.ty at 1/3 depth was b.tter than 2/3 depth. There was an improvement in water qual.ty with reductions of TSS, b.D5, COD, nitrate-N, nitrite-N, SRP and TP ranging from 25-52% except for DO and TAN. In addition, there was fl.ctuation of each parameter during the duration of study. It is important to monitor the water qual.ty prior to the rel.ase of effl.ent so that it coincides with l.w nutrients and acceptab.0} DO and partial.rel.ase of the top 1/3 portion is recommended. There is a l.mit on the reduction achievab.0} b. sedimentation ponds l.kel. due to processes occurring in the sediment. For higher reductions, other methods of effl.ent management and recovery of nutrients have to b. considered.

A case series of 20 fracture shafts of humerus were treated with anteromedial.pl.ting through anterol.teral.approach. There was no radial.nerve pal.y in any of the cases and al. achieved fracture union.

b.ckground: The effects of radiation therapy can impact patients’ qual.ty of l.fe, l.ading to treatment interruptions and therefore sub.optimal.outcomes. The main aim was to eval.ate the prel.minary effects of Ocoxin cream® in the prevention of radiation therapy. Methods: Fifty patients were enrol.ed in an ob.ervational. l.ngitudinal. prospective, singl.-centre cl.nical.trial.in the Department of Radiation Therapy at the National.Institute of Oncol.gy and Radiob.ol.gy in Havana, Cub.. The Radiation Therapy Oncol.gy Group (RTOG) toxicity criteria were used to cl.ssify the radiation therapy, and the Dermatol.gy l.fe Qual.ty Index (Dl.I) instrument was used to assess qual.ty of l.fe. Resul.s: Patients who met the incl.sion criteria were enrol.ed consecutivel. and were treated with tel.therapy using a 60Co source with 1.25 MeV energy. 70.0% of the patients were head and neck cancer patients. No grade 3 - 4 radiation therapy was reported, nor were there any interruptions in radiation treatment due to skin toxicity. Radiation therapy was ob.erved in onl. 14.0% of patients, and of these, onl. two patients devel.ped grade 2 toxicity. The perception of qual.ty of l.fe b.fore vs. after radiation therapy remained within an average range of “no effect” (at the start of radiation therapy) to “smal. effect” (at the end of radiation therapy). Concl.sions: This cl.nical.study is the first report of the use of Ocoxin cream® in cancer patients and demonstrates that it is ab.0} to prevent radiation therapy and reduce the severity of toxicity of treatment with ionising radiation.
