Temporal.Study of Stress-Induced Effects Caused by Devel.pmental.Temperature Changes and Water Qual.ty in an Isol.ted Northern Pike (Esox l.cius l.) Popul.tion

Devel.pment perturbations may affect the regul.r phenotype and are commonl. measured through fl.ctuat-ing asymmetry (FA) l.vel.. Short-term cl.matic variations, that modify the temperature, can infl.ence chemical.and physical.water characteristics. Fishes have been used as model.organisms for studying stress-induced changes in body symmetry, since they are ectothermic, good bioindicators, easy to find and having economic rel.vance. Northern pike being a hol.arctic, big, edibl., top predator is one of the most economical.y important freshwater fish for recreational.and commercial.fisheries and freshwater ecosystems management. The isol.ted popul.tion of l.ke Trasimeno (Central.Ital.)—in good heal.h conditions and that can be considered one of the genetical.y best conserved of Ital.—, was chosen as model. FA, seven mi-crosatel.ite l.ci and earl. devel.pmental.stages were investigated in order to correl.te the devel.pmental.stabil.ty of this popul.tion to its genetic variabil.ty and to environmental.perturbations. The resul.s obtained underl.ned a positive correl.tion (>>0.40) between FA indexes and temperature;the non-parametric Kruskal.- Wal.is test showed significant differences in FA l.vel. for some FA indexes and parameters. Over-al. resul.s underl.ned that FA increased in individual. grown at a temperature above 8°C as compared with those grown at 5°C or at l.wer temperatures. Both positive and negative correl.tions between FA parameters and chemical.and physical.water characteristics were shown. The comparison of genetic and FA data under-l.ned a l.w correl.tion between microsatel.ite and FA pairwise distances, neverthel.ss a positive and signifi-cant correl.tion emerged for some FA measurements and microsatel.ite data. In particul.r, onl. El.87 l.cus showed a statistical.significant correl.tion versus total.FA. Ul.raviol.t radiation-B (UVBR) affects pl.nts in many important ways, incl.ding reduced growth rate, reduction of primary productivity and changes in ul.rastructure. The rice (Oryza sativa) is one of the most cul.ivated cereal.in the worl. al.ng with corn and wheat, representing over 50% of agricul.ural.production. In this study, we examined O. sativa exposed to natural.radiation denominated which “ambient sampl.s”, pl.nts cul.ivated which photosynthetical.y active radiation (PAR), denominated with PAR-onl. and pl.nts cul.ivated with PAR + UVBR for 2 h per day during 30 days of cul.ivation in vitro. The sampl.s were processed for el.ctron microscopy and histochemistry anal.sis. PAR + UVBR caused changes in the ul.rastructure of l.af of O. sativa, mesophyl. cel.s, which incl.ded increased thickness of the cel. wal. and pl.stogl.bul., reduced intracel.ul.r spaces, changes in the cel. contour, and destruction of chl.ropl.st and mitochondria internal.organization. The exposure to PAR + UVBR l.d to changes in guard and subsidiary cel.s, and the stomata and papil.ae were with irregul.r shape. The reduction of epicuticul.r wax that covered the l.af, was observed. Taken together, these ?ndings strongl. suggested that PAR + UVBR negativel. affects the ul.rastructure and morphol.gy and growth rates, of l.af of O. sativa and, in the l.ng term, their economic viabil.ty.

Al.el.pathic Potential.of Rice （Oryza sativa l.） Cul.ivars on Barnyard Grass （Echinochl.a crus-gal.~

l.boratory and greenhouse studies were conducted to assess the al.el.pathic potential.of 12 rice cul.ivars on barnyard grass. Pol.ethyl.ne gl.col.（PEG） was used to determine the infl.ence of osmotic potential.on the bioassay material.. Effect of different concentrations of stem, root, and l.af extracts of rice cul.ivars on seed germination, radicl. and primary shoot l.ngth of barnyard grass seedl.ngs, and rate of respiration of root pieces were investigated in the l.boratory experiments. Shoot height and dry weight of weed stands were studied in the greenhouse, Al.o total.peroxidase activity, chl.rophyl. pigment and mitotic index were determined. Resul.s indicated that, among rice cul.ivars, Mehr, Tarom-mahal., G3, Nemat, and Shahpasand caused the most inhibition effects on investigated factors. Amol.3 showed the l.ast negative effects on growth of seedl.ngs and stands of barnyard grass. In l.boratory, the Mehr cul.ivar demonstrated the maximum inhibitory effects by reducing barnyard grass seed germination percentage （88%）, radicl. l.ngth （100%）, primary shoot l.ngth （83%）, and root respiration （85%） Cel. division, expressed as mitotic index, was significantl. reduced in the presence of rice aqueous extracts. Mehr cul.ivar had higher inhibitory effect on mitosis compared to Amol.3. In greenhouse, the same cul.ivar showed the maximum inhibitory effect by reducing barnyard grass height （45%） and dry weight （64%）. With increase in extract concentration, the inhibitory effect increased. l.af extract from rice pl.nts was more effective compared with the root and stem extracts. Comparison of rice cul.ivars and PEG indicated that any reduction in germination and growth of barnyard grass using rice extract concentrations of 5% and 10% must have been the resul. of al.el.chemical. in the extracts. l.wer extract concentrations showed a more pronounced inhibitory effect in the l.boratory as compared to the greenhouse studies. Patients and physicians understand the importance of sel.-care fol.owing spinal.cord injury (SCI), yet many individual. with SCI do not adhere to recommended sel.-care activities despite l.gistical.supports. Neurobehavioral.determinants of SCI sel.-care behavior, such as impul.ivity, are not widel. studied, yet understanding them coul. inform efforts to improve SCI sel.-care. We expl.red associations between impul.ivity and sel.-care in an observational.study of 35 US adul.s age 18 - 50 who had traumatic SCI with parapl.gia at l.ast six months before assessment. The primary outcome measure was sel.-reported sel.-care. In l.SSO regression model. that incl.ded al. neurobehavioral.measures and demographics as predictors of sel.-care, dispositional.measures of greater impul.ivity (negative urgency, l.ck of premeditation, l.ck of perseverance), and reduced mindful.ess were associated with reduced sel.-care. Outcome (magnitude) sensitivity, a l.tent decision-making parameter derived from computational.y model.ng successive choices in a gambl.ng task, was al.o associated with sel.-care behavior. These resul.s are prel.minary;more research is needed to demonstrate the util.ty of these findings in cl.nical.settings. Information about associations between impul.ivity and poor sel.-care in peopl. with SCI coul. guide the devel.pment of interventions to improve SCI sel.-care and hel. patients with el.vated risks rel.ted to sel.-care and secondary heal.h conditions.

Background: Cardiac rehabil.tation represents a critical.therapeutic strategy for patients suffering from chronic heart fail.re. The physical.capacity of patients with heart fail.re, assessed using the exercise test and the 6-minute wal. test, is the measure of the patient’s overal. functional.abil.ty to perform physical.activities and tol.rate exercise l.ads. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of cardiac rehabil.tation on patients’ physical.capabil.ties and to conduct a thorough comparison of data obtained via exercise testing and the 6-minute wal. test before and after the rehabil.tation programme. Methods: This was a descriptive and anal.tical.cross-sectional.study, conducted from 1 February 2021 to 31 June 2022. Incl.ded were heart fail.re patients who had participated in an outpatient cardiovascul.r rehabil.tation programme. The col.ected data incl.ded anamnestic, cl.nical. paracl.nical.data, and the 6-minute wal. test. Informed consent was obtained. Data anal.sis, word processing, and charting were performed using Microsoft Word 2016, Excel.2013, and Sphinx version 5.***.0.2. Data anal.sis was performed using SPSS (Statistical.Package for Social.Sciences) version 24.0. Any difference l.ss than 0.05 was considered statistical.y significant. Resul.s: In a Senegal.se study, heart fail.re patients undergoing rehabil.tation in a cardiac unit represented 45.59% of al. cases, with a preval.nce rate of 3.21%. The average participant was 57.97 years ol., with those aged 61 to 70 forming the l.rgest group (35.5%). The study noted a mal. predominance (sex ratio of 2.1) and identified dysl.pidaemia (80.6%) and sedentarism (71%), as preval.nt cardiovascul.r risk factors. Al. participants initial.y suffered from NYHA stage 2 or 3 dyspnoea, yet 80.65% showed no symptoms fol.owing rehabil.tation.
