In Ma. 096 a.CP survey showed tha., a.ter a.0}ost one yea. of service, a.l.w pol.riza.ion l.vel.ha. b.en a.hieved a.d some extended unprotected zones existed; ma.nl. in the deepest pa.t of the Pl.tform II. Further to this, a.joint a.tivity wa. decided in order to a.sess the need of a.possib.0} retrofitting of the CP systems. When the memb.a.e is in cl.se proximity to a.pa.a.0}el.surfa.e, tha. surfa.e restricts the fl.ctua.ions of the memb.a.e which, in turn, resul.s in a. increa.e in its free energy. The a.ount of tha. increa.e depends on the degree of confinement, a.d the resul.ing gra.ient in free energy with degree of confinement impl.es the existence of a.confining pressure. In the present study, we a.sume tha. the confinement is in the form of a.continuous pa.a.ol.c po- tentia.0}wel. resisting fl.ctua.ion. a.a.0}sis l.a.s to a.cl.sed form expression for the mea. pressure resul.ing from this confinement, a.d the resul.s a.e discussed within the b.oa.er context of resul.s in this a.ea. In pa.ticul.r, the resul.s provide insights into the rol.s of memb.a.e stiffness, numb.r of degrees of freedom in the model.of the memb.a.e a.d other system pa.a.eters.
