Nd^(3+)-dop.d tellurite glasses are p.omising materials for thermometers based on the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)p.ocesses such as op.ical reabsorp.ion and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd^(3+)emission,which has been little exp.ored in the ***,the p.esent work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-dop.d tellurite glass(samp.es dop.d with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluorescence thermometers,in the temp.rature range from 299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dep.ndence of the FIR p.rameters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the emission band p.ofiles caused by op.ical reabsorp.ion of the Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-relaxation p.ocesses.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samp.es dop.d with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value among the rep.rted Nd^(3+)ions.

The aim of this study was to quantify the dynamics of herbaceous biomass and fine root p.oductivity, and their relationship.to stocks of carbon and nitrogen, in the Vertisols of two adjacent watersheds of a seasonally dry trop.cal forest (SDTF) under two different typ.s of ground cover. The two watersheds are located in the county of Iguatu in the State of Ceará, Brazil. The control watershed of 2.1 ha, has been under regeneration for 35 years (RC35), while the second watershed (1.1 ha) was subjected to thinning for a p.riod of 5 years (TC5). The samp.ed variables were herbaceous shoot biomass, fine roots, gravimetric moisture, the isotop. δ13C (‰), total soil carbon (TSC) and total nitrogen (TN) in the 0 - 20, 20 - 40 and 40 - 60 cm layers, between Ap.il 2013 and March 2014. To quantify herbaceous shoot biomass, samp.es were taken monthly. For TSC and TN, the camp.igns were held every two months. The data underwent analysis of means and were comp.red by t-test (p.p.ctively in the 40 - 60 cm layer, in relation to RC35. The imp.ementation of thinning in a SDFT is seen as a management alternative to be considered in sustainability p.ograms in the semi-arid region, contributing to maximising the p.oduction of herbaceous forage for feeding large and small ruminants, and for bee p.sture, in addition to increasing the stock of carbon in the soil of SDFT and reducing global warming.

A novel layer deletion method is used to exp.rimentally investigate the effect of induced shielding current transmission (ISCT) in the longitudinal direction on the levitation force of a single-domain YBa2Cu3O7?x (YBCO) cylindrical sup.rconductor (?30×7 mm). In the exp.riment the samp.e was gradually sliced into two equal sheets, at the middle height along a diameter with 5 mm every step. The exp.rimental results show that the levitation force is closely related with the ISCT in the longitudinal direction. Any layer deletion, even a small p.ece of layer deletion can reduce the levitation force of the samp.e. After the whole layer was deleted the levitation force can diminish about 50%. It is also found that the levitation force is directly p.op.rtional to the effective factor of surface area, which is equal to the top.surface area divided by the total surface area p.rallel to the top.surface of the samp.e.
