γ＋jet events provide a tomographic measurement of the medium formed in heavy ion collisions at lHC *** events with a well identified high p T direct photon and measuring the correlation distribution of hadrons emitted oppositely to the photon in AlICE,allows us to determine,with a good approximation,both the jet fragmentation function and the back-to-back azimuthal alignment of the direct photon and the *** these two observables measured in pp collisions with the ones measured in AA collisions will reveal the modifications of the jet structure induced by the medium formed in AA collisions and consequently will infer the medium properties.

Different tests were carried out to assess the efficiency of replacing plant protection products used at the main application points in citrus fruit packinghouses with natural treatments. The efficiency of an aqueous treatment containing potassium sorbate was found to significantly reduce decaying in Marisol mandarins previously inoculated with Penicillium digitatum and Penicillium italicum. The same food preservative was used in conjunction with a fruit detergent and was applied on Washington navel oranges and the reduction in the appearance of decaying was similar to that obtained using Guazatine. Finally, two different essential oils were tested. One was combined with a coating and the KS, whilst the other was applied as a fumigant. In the case of wax treatments, it was found that the combination of essential oil or KS with Imazalil at half the dose （0.1%） was equivalent to treatment with a higher dose of Imazalil （0.2%） thus making it possible to reduce the dose of plant protection products used without reducing decay control effectiveness. The treatment with a fumigant with essential oil has a level of efficiency similar to Imazalil against PI. These treatments can be considered a viable alternative to the use of plant protection products.

The use of a waste-based secondary fuel in clinker kilns is a widely used practice. nevertheless, specific studies to understand the destruction mechanism of exhaust pollutants in cement raw material (CRM) are limited. This work focuses on the possible catalytic effect of the interaction of exhaust gases from the combustion of sewage sludge with various solids beds, including CRM. Catalyst based on vanadium pentoxide and denOx commercial catalyst, based on Ti/Zr/Pt, were used. The behaviors of volatile compounds, polycyclic aromatic compounds and dioxins and furans are analyzed in the presence or absence of the different materials. Some compounds are produced when interacting the pollutants with the beds, and some others are destroyed. Results show that the presence of CRM at the outlet of the combustion gases is beneficial for the decrease in pollutant emission, confirmed by a catalytic effect of CRM at medium temperatures.

Background:Postural control has been associated with the functional impairment in persons with multiple sclerosis(pwMS).However,there is a need for reliable methods to assess postural control in early stages of the disease,when subtle changes can be difficult to *** aims of this study were to assess the absolute and relative reliability of a standing and a sitting posturographic protocol in minimally(Expanded Disability Status Scale≤2)and moderately(2.5≤Expanded Disability Status Scale≤4)impaired pwMS,and to analyze relationships among postural control and functional mobility and gait ***:To assess postural control in an upright stance,14 minimally and 16 moderately impaired pwMS performed six 70 s trials in tandem stance,3 with their weaker leg behind(TSWl)and 3 with their stronger leg behind(TSSl).Additionally,participants completed five 70 s trials using an unstable sitting protocol(US)to assess trunk *** mean radial errors of TSWl,TSSl,and US trials were calculated as postural control ***,participants performed the Timed Up and Go test(TUG)and the Timed 25-foot Walk test(T25FW)to measure their functional mobility and gait speed,*** was evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC3,1)and the standard error of measurement(SEM).Analyses of variances were carried out to assess between-group ***’g index(dg)was used to estimate the effect size of *** correlation analyses(r)were performed to examine the relationships among the postural control and the functional ***:Posturographic tests showed a high reliability in both minimally(0.87≤ICC≤0.92;9.32%≤SEM≤11.76%)and moderately(0.80≤ICC≤0.92;10.33%≤SEM≤15.33%)impaired ***,T25FW and TUG displayed a high consistency in minimally(0.89≤ICC≤0.94;3.43%≤SEM≤5.17%)and moderately(0.85≤ICC≤0.93;5.57%≤SEM≤6.56%)impaired *** impaired pwMS showed a better performance on the TUG,T25FW

The Hispanic population of the United States has become, in recent times, into a powerful electoral force whose vote is historically oriented towards the Democratic Party of the incumbent US President Barack H. Obama. Obviously, this growing electoral strength is reflected into its political presence in the American life that has been accomplished with their numeric inclusion in the US Congress. Although in the recent decades several studies have arisen on the status of the Hispanic community in the United States from both sides of the Atlantic, these have been primarily focused on casuistic, demographic, developmental or educational aspects. But only a few of them, if any, has focused exclusively on the numerical and symbolical representation of the community in the political arena, and more specifically into the main legislative body of the country, the US Congress. And therein it lays the purpose of this article. We intend to investigate not only the historical presence of Hispanic legislators in Congress but also and especially their political influence in the current U.S. Congress. Finally, and prior to the conclusions drawn throughout the paper, we will analyze the political influence of the Hispanic congresswomen in the current 114th Congress. As we will be breaking down, this group has been changing gradually from a poor oppressed minority into one of the most dynamic groups of the country, introduced at all levels of government.

Cerebral Blood Flow Measurement in the Assessment of Post-Traumatic Cerebral Contusions

Brain trauma (BT) is extremely common in the Western society, and has been identified as the main cause of death and disability in the under-40 age group. Many aspects of the pathophysiological mechanisms involved and the effect of changes in cerebral metabolism are unclear. The aim of this study was to establish the rela- tionship between anatomical changes and deranged cerebral perfusion in patients with cerebral contusions, using Computed Tomography (CT) and Single Proton Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT). Twenty- two (22) patients who had suffered BT were recruited. All patients underwent SPECT and CT head scans on the same day. 18 were men. Patient average age was 45.6. Patients were assessed using the Glasgow scale (average 10.6). Cause of trauma included traffic accidents (9 patients) and falls (13 patients). A 4-slice spiral CT scan was performed. For each contusion, areas of bleeding, edema, and healthy perilesional tissue were distinguished. SPECT was performed with 20 mCi of 99 mTcECD using a dual-head gamma camera (128 × 128 matrix). CT scan revealed a single lesion in 12 patients, and more than one lesion in 10. The biggest le- sions found on CT were located in the frontal region in 13 patients;temporal region in 4;and parietal region in 1;four patients had poorly defined lesions. A total absence of perfusion was visible in 18 patients in the hemorrhagic area and in 14 patients in the edema, In 7 cases SPECT showed hypoperfusion that did not cor- respond to any morphological changes on the CT scan. Quantitative of fused lesions appearing on both CT scan and SPECT revealed severe perfusion defects in the hemorrhagic area (17.8%) and in the edema (29.4%). In our study, regional cerebral blood flow add relevant information on encephalic damage in pa- tients with BT.
