Objective:The effectiveness of adjuvant treatments for resected gallbladder carcinoma(GBC)has remained unclear due to lack of randomized controlled trials;thus,the aim of present study was to evaluate the role of adjuvant treatments,including chemoradiotherapy(CRT)and/or chemotherapy(CTx),in patients with resected ***:A total of 733 GBC patients who received curative-intent surgical resection were identified in a multi-institutional *** 733 patients,372(50.8%)did not receive adjuvant treatment,whereas 215(29.3%)and 146(19.9%)received adjuvant CTx and CRT,*** locoregional recurrence-free survival(LRFS),recurrence-free survival(RFS),and overall survival(OS)of the adjuvant treatment groups were compared according to tumor stage(stage II *** III–IV).Results:In stage II disease(n=381),the 5-year LRFS,RFS,and OS were not significantly different among the no-adjuvant therapy,CTx,and CRT groups,and positive resection margin,presence of perineural invasion,and Nx classification were consistently associated with worse LRFS,RFS,and OS in the multivariate analysis(P<0.05).For stage III–IV(n=352),the CRT group had significantly higher 5-year LRFS,RFS,and OS than the no-adjuvant therapy and CTx groups(67.8%,45.2%,and 56.9%;37.9%,28.8%,and 35.4%;and 45.0%,30.0%,and 45.7%,respectively)(P<0.05).Conclusions:CRT has value as adjuvant treatment for resected GBC with stage III–IV *** study is needed for stage II disease with high-risk features.

Effect of Hoechunyangkyeok-San Extract on Melanogenesis

Forsythia fructus has been shown to have antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-aging and whitening effects. Hoechunyangkyeok-san (Forsythia viridissima-prescription) is a traditional herbal medicine, which has been clinically used for treating febrile and inflammatory disorders. This work was carried out to investigate the skin whitening effects of Forsythia viridissima-prescription extract (a hydrolyzed extract of Hoechunyangkyeok-san: SID White HYC) on skin. The effects of SID White HYC were assessed the melanin contents in B161 melanoma cells and the pigmented equivalent with HMB45 and Fontana Masson staining in 3D skin model. Then, we examined the expression of major pigment enzymes regulating melanin synthesis and melanosome transport related proteins in B16F1 cells. SID White HYC significantly inhibited the melanin synthesis (56.7% and 30.6% inhibition at 100 μg/mL, intracellular and secreted, respectively) in B16F1 cells and 3D skin model. In addition, western blotting analysis showed that SID White HYC reduced the expression of melanin synthesis and melanosome transport related proteins in B16F1 cells. In clinical trials, the cream containing 0.05% SID White HYC showed skin depigmentation effect without any irritation. These results suggest that SID White HYC may be useful inhibition of melanogenesis and melanosome transport. Therefore, SID White HYC may have potential as a skin-whitening ingredient in cosmetics.

Water-bloom with blue-green algae is very serious problem that occurs in a eutrophic water body during summer season in Korean *** resolve this problem,although various studies have been attempted,most of them were not successful due to the technical limitation.K-water has recently developed the algal harvesting system(AHS) for management of algal bloom zone to prevent the downstream algal propagation and suggested technology background for biomass resources *** was designed and manufactured with total 7 independent *** vessel of AHS is composed of two part,main and sub-body,and five individual components of suction,collection,filtering,gathering,and ultrasonic device.A test result of AHS in Daecheong Reservoir and its tributary in Korea was very *** evaluation of the efficiency of AHS was summarized in the aspect of low carbon,recycling,and water quality *** removal rate of the biomass and carbonate at 540 m/day capacity of AHS was 30.78 g chl-a/day,1.54 kg C/day,*** development and application of AHS will lead to provide the base of establishing massive algal incubation plant that allows for producing bio-resources,and will contribute to suggest various technical derivations that support low carbon and green growth.

Primary adenocarcinoma of the appendix is a rare malignancy that constitutes 〈 0.5% of all gastrointestinal neoplasms. Moreover, primary signet ring cell carc noma of the appendix is an exceedingly rare entity. We have encountered 15 cases of primary appendiceal cancer among 3389 patients who underwent appen- dectomy over the past 18 years. In the present report, we describe a rare case of primary signet ring cell carcinoma of the appendix with ovarian metastases and unresectable peritoneal dissemination occurring in a 67-year-old female patient. She underwent ap- pendectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with a laparoscopy procedure. She then received palliative systemic chemotherapy with 12 cycles of oxaliplatin, 5-flurorouracil, and leucovorin （FOIFOX-4）. The patient currently is well without progression of disease 12 mo after beginning chemotherapy.

＜正＞Focusing on increasing the utilization of small hydro turbine resources,the national government has set a target of constructing 400 small turbines by 2011 through implementation of various support *** the government is planning to increase the number of small turbines,this is just a quantitative aspect as there have been no plans established related to methods for developing or operating cutting edge small turbines from a qualitative aspect. K-water（the Korea Water Resources Corporation）has 23 small turbines and 24 large ones. Most of the hydro turbine test conditions were unable to meet standardized test requirements（IEC, ISO etc.）and this situation was even worse for small *** hope that this paper will show some cases that water turbines improved their efficiency through successful *** addition,we will elaborate on the following to provide suitable reference data for those developing water power resources.

A clothing-type wearable display can be utilized in fashion,bio-healthcare,and safety industries as well as smart textiles for the internet of things(IoTs)and wearable *** response to this trend,we demonstrate a textile display that can endure the active movements of a human *** can be applied to any kind of textile,and is durable against conditions such as rain,sweat,and *** a key technology for realizing the multi-directional wrinkle-able textile display,we fabricated a stress-lowering textile platform with an ultrathin planarization layer replicated from the flat surface of *** elastomeric strain buffer for reducing mechanical stress is also inserted into the textile ***,organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs)with red,green and blue color,thin film transistors(TFTs)fabricated at a low temperature below 150℃,and a washable encapsulation layer blocking both gas and liquid were demonstrated on the textile platform.

Prognostic value of 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography in resectable colorectal cancer

AIM:To assess the prognostic value of preoperative 18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography(FDG-PET)/computed tomography(CT) in patients with resectable colorectal ***:One hundred sixty-three patients with resectable colorectal cancer who underwent FDG-PET/CT before surgery were *** data including pathologic stage at presentation,histology,treatment,disease-free survival and the maximum standardized uptake value(SUVmax) of the primary tumor on FDG-PET/CT were retrospectively *** follow up duration was 756(range,419-1355).The primary end point was disease-free ***:Twenty-five of 163 patients(15.3%) had *** median SUVmax values of the recurrence and no-recurrence groups were 8.9(range,5-24) and 8.2(range,0-23,P = 0.998).Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis showed no significant association between SUVmax and recurrence(area under the curve = 0.5,P = 0.998,95% CI:0.389-0.611).Because a statistically significant value was not found,SUVmax was dichotomized at its median of *** disease-free survival curve was analyzed using the median SUVmax(8.6) as the cut *** and multivariate analysis did not provide evidence that disease-free survival rates for the subgroups defined by the median SUVmax were significantly different(P = 0.52,P = 0.25).CONCLUSION:Our study suggests that the high FDG uptake of primary mass in resectable colorectal cancer doesn't have a significant relationship with tumor recurrence and disease-free survival.

An Alternative Path for the Preparation of Triacetylcellulose from Unrefined Biomass

An alternative path for the preparation of triacetylcellulose (TAC) from unrefined biomass Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) has been found with environmental benefits. The method comprises separation and regeneration of cellulose from lignocellulosic biomass dissolved in ionic liquid BMIMCl, and also modification of cellulose to TAC. The triacetylcellulose with a degree of substitution of 2.93 was obtained by the reaction of acetic anhydride at 55。C with drastically reducing number of steps currently required to produce this derivative from raw materials itself. TAC was characterized using NMR analysis. The triacetate cellulose is typically used for the creation of fibers and film base.
