Spatio-temporal variability in sea surface wind stress near and off the east coast of Korea

Sea surface wind stress variabilities near and off the east coast of Korea, are examined using 7 kinds of wind datasets from measurements at 2 coastal (land) stations and 2 ocean buoys,satellite scatterometer (QuikScAT), and global reanalyzed products (EcMWF,NOGAPS,and NcEP/NcAR). Temporal variabilities are analyzed at 3 frequency bands; synoptic (2-20 d), intra-seasonal (20-90 d),and seasonal (>90 d).Synoptic and intra-seasonal variations are predominant near and off the Donghae city due to the passage of the mesoscale weather system. Seasonal variation is caused by southeastward wind stress during Asian winter monsoon. The sea surface wind stress from reanalyzed *** and KMA-B measurements off the coast show good agreement in the magnitude and direction,which are strongly aligned with the alongshore *** the land-based sites,wind stresses are much weaker by factors of 3-10 due to the mountainous landmass on the east parts of Korea *** first EOF modes(67%-70%) of wind stresses from reanalyzed and QuikScAT data have similar structures of the strong southeastward wind stress in winter along the coast but show different curl structures at scales less than 200 km due to the orographic *** second EOF modes (23%-25%) show southwestward wind stress in every September along the east coast of the North Korea

We consider the preventive maintenance of a production system that is deteriorated by random shocks and the production process itself. The degree of deterioration is modeled by discrete and finite states. Shocks arrive according to a Poisson process and deteriorate the system by random amounts. The system may deteriorate whenever it produces an item. The system is continuously monitored and repaired if the system state is at or above a predetermined level for maintenance. We analyze the lifetime, product quantity, average cost, and average profit considering revenue from the product and cost due to setup, operation, and repair. Assuming a structure of system parameters and costs, using numerical examples, we investigate the impact of production and shock arrivals on the average profit and the optimal maintenance level that maximizes the average profit. The proposed model is applicable to manufacturing tasks in which machines wear due to production, for example, press processes, milling, turning, punching, and drilling.

Sea surface temperature(SST)retrieved from Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer(AVHRR)onboard National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA)polar orbiting environmental satellites were validated in the East/Japan Sea(EJS)using surface drifter measurements as ground truths from 2005 to ***,the root-mean-square(rms)errors of multichannel SSTs(McSSTs)and non-linear SSTs(NLSSTs)using global SST coefficients were approximately 0.85℃ and 0.80℃,*** analysis of the SST errors(satellite-drifter)revealed a dependence on the amount of atmospheric *** addition,satellite-derived SSTs tended to be related to wind speeds,particularly during the *** SST errors also demonstrated diurnal variations with relatively higher rms from 0.80℃ to 1.00℃ during the night than the day,with a small rms of about 0.50℃.Bias also exhibited reasonable diurnal differences,showing small biases during the *** a satellite zenith angle has been considered in the global SST coefficients,its effect on the SST errors still remained in case of the *** the diverse use of SST data,the continuous validation and understanding of the characteristic errors of satellite SSTs should be conducted based on extensive in-situ temperature measurements in the global ocean as well as local seas.

Multilevel resistive switching and synaptic plasticity of nanoparticulated cobaltite oxide memristive device

Multilevel resistive switching(RS)is a key property to embrace the full potential of memristive devices for non-volatile memory and neuromorphic computing *** this study,we employed nanoparticulated cobaltite oxide(co_(3)O_(4))as a model material to demonstrate the multilevel RS and synaptic learning capabilities because of its multiple and stable redox state *** Pt/co_(3)O_(4)/Pt memristive device exhibited tunable RS properties with respect to different voltages and compliance currents(cc)without the electroforming *** is,the device showed voltage-dependent RS at a higher cc whereas cc-dependent RS was observed at lower *** device showed four different resistance states during endurance and retention measurements and non-volatile memory results indicated that the cc-based measurement had less ***,we investigated the basic and complex synaptic plasticity properties using the analog current-voltage characteristics of the Pt/co_(3)O_(4)/Pt *** particular,we mimicked the potentiation–depression and four-spike time-dependent plasticity(STDP)rules such as asymmetric Hebbian,asymmetric anti-Hebbian,symmetric Hebbian,and symmetric antiHebbian learning *** results of the present work indicate that the cobaltite oxide is an excellent nanomaterial for both multilevel RS and neuromorphic computing applications.

Effect of Ionic Liquid on Retention of Solutes on c_(18) column Based on Linear Solvation Energy Relationships

Several chromatography systems with ionic liquids and a mixture of water with the modifier as mobile phase were characterized via the linear solvation energy relationships（LSER） model. The effects of the ionic liquids and modifier（methanol） concentrations on the retention of 10 solutes（caffeine, pyridine, aniline, phenol, methylparaben, acetopenone, m-cresol, p-cresol, o-cresol, and benzene） were discussed. The LSER model demonstrated high potential to predict retention factors with high squared correlation coefficients（r^2〉 0.97）. A comparison of predictable and experimental retention factors revealed that LSER can adequately reproduce the experimental retention factors of the solutes under different investigated experimental conditions. This model is a helpful tool to evaluate the retention characteristics of ionic liquid systems and to understand the interactions of solutes and ionic liquids.

Identification of key genes responsible for cytokine-induced erythroid and myeloid differentiation and switching of hematopoietic stem cells by RAGE

We utilized a unique culture system to analyze the expression patterns of gene,protein,and cell surface antigen,and the biological process of the related genes in erythroid and myeloid differentiation and switching of hematopoieticstem cells(HScs)in response to cytokine ***-specific fragments(266)identified from five populationsof cytokine-stimulated HScs were categorized into three groups:(1)expressed specifically in a single cell population;(2)expressed in two cell populations,and(3)expressed in three or more populations. Of 145 defined cDNAs,three(2%)were novel *** two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and flow cytometry analyses showed overlappedand distinguished protein expression profiles in the cell populations *** process mapping of mRNAsexpressed in erythroid and myeloid lineages indicated that mRNAs shared by both lineages attended 'core processes,'whereas genes specifically expressed in either lineage alone were related to specific processes or cellular *** this study support the hypothesis that committed HScs(E14 or G14)cells can still be redirected to develop intomyeloid or erythroid cells when erythropoietin(EPO)is replaced with granulocyte-colony stimulating factor(G-cSF)under erythroid-cultured condition or G-cSF with EPO in myeloid-cultured environment,*** results sug-gest that genes or proteins co-expressed in erythroid and myeloid lineages may be essential for the lineage maintenanceand switching in hematopoiesis.

Adsorption Isotherms of Quercetin and catechin compounds on Quercetin-MIP

A molecular imprinted polymer（MIP） was prepared with quereetin as the template and methaerylie acid（MAA） as the functional monomer. aeetonitrile and methanol were used as the porogen with ethylene glycol dimethaerylate （EGDMA） as the erosslinker and 2,2＇-azobis （ isobutyronitrile ）（ AIBN ） as the initiator. The experimental parameters of the equilibrium isotherms were estimated via linear and nonlinear regression analyses. The linear equadon as the functions of the adsorption concentration of the single compound in its solution and the competitive adsorption of the single compound in its mixed compounds solution was then expressed, and the adsorption equilibrium data were correlated to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The mixture compounds show competitive adsorption on the specific binding sites of quereetin-MIP. Furthermore, the competitive Langmnir isotherms were applied to the mixture compounds. The adsorption concentrations of quercetin, （＋）eatechin（＋c）, and （-）epieateehin（Ec） on the quercetin molecular imprinted polymer were compared. The quercetin-imprinted polymer shows extraordinarily higher adsorption ability for quercetin than for the two eateehin compounds that were also assessed.

Numerical analysis of a magnetohydrodynamic duct flow with flow channel insert under a non-uniform magnetic field

This study performs a numerical analysis of three-dimensional liquid metal(LM) magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) flows in a square duct with an FcI in a non-uniform magnetic field. The current study predicts detailed information on flow velocity, Lorentz force, pressure, current and electric potential of MHD duct flows for different Hartmann numbers. Also, the effect of the electric conductivity of FcI on the pressure drop along the main flow direction in a non-uniform magnetic field is examined. The present study investigates the features of LM MHD flows in consideration of the interdependency among the flow variables.

Evaluation of Retention Factors for Nine Solutes with Ionic Liquid Additives via Linear Solvation Energy Relationships

A linear solvation energy relationships（LSERs） model was used to examine the fundamental chemical interactions governing the retention of 9 organic compounds on a c18 column by means of reversed-phase high performance liquid cbromatography（RP-HPLc）. Three ionic liquids, 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate （[Hmin][BF4]）, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate（[Bmin][BF4]） and 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate（[OMIm][BF4]） as additives, were added to a methanol-water mobile phase. The effects of these three ionic liquids additives on the retention of nine organic compounds were investigated, and a comparison between the predicted and experimental retention factors was made via the LSERs model, which indicated that the LSERs model could be used to reproduce the experimental retention factors of the solutes under different mobile phase conditions. It is also a useful tool for modeling the interactions of the solutes between the stationary and mobile phases and evaluating the retention characteristics of HPLc.
