Long-term result of endoscopic Histoacryl （n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate）injection for treatment of gastric varices

AIM:To evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of endoscopic obliteration with Histoacryl  for treatment of gastric variceal bleeding and ***:Between January 1994 and March 2010 at SoonChunhy.ng University Hospital,a total of 127 patients with gastric varices received Histoacryl  injections *** hundred patients underwent endoscopic Histoacryl  injections because of variceal bleeding,the other 27 patients received such injections as a prophylactic ***:According to Sarin classification,56 patients were GOV1,61 patients were GOV2 and 10 patients were *** of the varices were large(F2 or F3,111 patients).The average volume of Histoacryl  per each session was 1.7±1.3 cc and mean number of sessions was 1.3±0.6.(1 session-98 patients,2 sessions-25 patients,≥3 sessions-4 patients).Twenty-seven patients with high risk of bleeding(large or fundal or RCS+or Child C) received Histoacryl  injection as a primary prophylactic *** these patients,hepatitis B virus was the major etiology of cirrhosis,25 patients showed GOV1 or 2(92.6%)and F2 or F3 accounted for 88.9%(n=24).The rate of initial hemostasis was 98.4%and recurrent bleeding within one year occurred in 18.1%of *** hemostasis during episodes of rebleeding was achieved in 73.9%of *** survival was 50 mo (95%CI 30.5-69.5).Major complications occurred in 4 patients(3.1%).The rebleeding rate in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma or GOV2 was higher than in those with other *** of the 27 subjects who were treated prophylactically experienced treatment-related *** survival rates of the 127 patients at 6 mo,1,3,and 5 years were 92.1%,84.2%,64.2%,and 45.3%,*** 6 mo cumulative survival rate of the 27 patients treated prophylactically was 75%.COnCLUSIOn:Histoacryl  injection therapy is an effective treatment for gastric varices and also an effective prophylactic treatment of gastric varices which

Effects of honing treatment on AIP-Tin and TiAln coated end-mill for high speed machining

The objective of this work is to compare the tool performance of Tin and TiA1n coated carbides end-mills deposited by an arc ion plating （ALP） method, using honing treatment to polish the cutting edge surface sleekly. The curve of surface roughness versus honing time showed a rapid improvement initially and thereafter became steady, manifesting a saturation effect. The optimal honing time related to surface roughness was determined to be approximately 20 s. As the surface roughness increased, the critical loads reduced. At an average surface roughness （Ra） of 0.028 p.m, the highest critical loads of Tin and TiAln coating layers were 98 and 114 n, respectively. Tool performances of uncoated and coated tools were conducted under high speed machining （HSM） of AISI D2 cold-worked die steel （62 HRC）. Consequently, the TiAln coated end-mill using honing treatment showed excellent tool life under HSM conditions.

Maize is a staple food in many sub-Saharan African countries, grown on large surfaces and with high production. However, maize’s cultivation is often confronted with attacks by the fall armyworm, which considerably reduces production. Thus, the use of biological agents in the control of the fall armyworm would contribute effectively to the sustainability of agriculture. It is in this context that this study, conducted at the La Mé station of the national Centre for Agronomy Research, aims to test the effectiveness of Rhynocoris rapax, a powerful predator of various insect families, on the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda, for biological control of this maize pest in Côte d’Ivoire. Therefore, 3 batches of 1 adult individuals of Rhynocoris rapax were captured in trial plots set up at the La Mé station. These individuals were then put in contact with 3 batches of 5, 20 and 40 larvae of the pest in rearing boxes at an average temperature of 26.4°C and an average relative humidity of 60%, in order to evaluate the efficiency of the predation. The results showed that Rhynocoris rapax kills more larvae when these are in large numbers. The mortality of the high number of larvae was observed during the first three days, probably due to the voracity and aggressiveness of Rhynocoris rapax that period. So R. rapax is a potential predator of fall armyworm and should be protected.

Re-evaluation of recent research on metabolic utilization of energy in poultry: Recommendations for a net energy system for broilers

Different energy systems have been proposed for energy evaluation of feeds for domestic animals. The oldest and most commonly used systems take into account the fecal energy loss to obtain digestible energy (DE), and fecal, urinary and fermentation gases energy losses to calculate metabolizable energy (ME). In the case of ruminants and pigs, the net energy (nE) system, which takes into account the heat increment associated with the metabolic utilization of ME, has progressively replaced the DE and ME systems over the last 50 years. For poultry, apparent ME (AME) is used exclusively and nE is not yet used widely. The present paper considers some important methodological points for measuring nE in poultry feeds and summarizes the available knowledge on nE systems for poultry. nE prediction equations based on a common analysis of three recent studies representing a total of 50 complete and balanced diets fed to broilers are proposed; these equations including the AME content and easily available chemical indicators have been validated on another set of 30 diets. The equations are applicable to both ingredients and complete diets. They rely primarily on an accurate and reliable AME value which then represents the first limiting predictor of nE value. Our analysis indicates that nE would be a better predictor of broiler performance than AME and that the hierarchy between feeds is dependent on the energy system with a higher energy value for fat and a lower energy value for protein in an nE system. Practical considerations for implementing such an nE system from the commonly used AME or AME n (AME adjusted for zero nitrogen balance) systems are presented. Loss of CDX2 expression is associated with poor prognosis in colorectal cancer patients

AIM:To investigate the clinicopathologic characteristics and prognostic implications associated with loss of CDX2 expression in colorectal cancers(CRCs).METHODS:We immunohistochemically evaluated CDX2 expression in 713 CRCs and paired our findings to clinicopathologic and molecular characteristics of each *** included cytokeratin 7 and CK20 expression,microsatellite instability,Cp G island methylator phenotype,and KRAS and BRAF mutation *** and multivariate survival analysis was performed to reveal the prognostic value of CDX2 ***:CDX2 expression was lost in 42(5.9%) ***,loss of CDX2 expression was associated with proximal location,infiltrative growth,advanced T,n,M and overall *** microscopic examination,loss of CDX2 expression was associated with poor differentiation,increased number of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes,luminal serration and mucin *** of CDX2 expression was also associated with increased CK7 expression,decreased CK20 expression,Cp G island methylator phenotype,microsatellite instability and BRAF *** a univariate survival analysis,patients with loss of CDX2 expression showed worse overall survival(P nd progression-free survival(P n a multivariate survival analysis,loss of CDX2 expression was an independent poor prognostic factor of overall survival [hazard ratio(HR) = 1.72,95%CI:1.04-2.85,P = 0.034] and progression-free survival(HR = 1.94,95%CI:1.22-3.07,P = 0.005).COnCLUSIOn:Loss of CDX2 expression is associated with aggressive clinical behavior and can be used as a prognostic marker in CRCs.

Prediction of effluent concentration in a wastewater treatment plant using machine learning models

Of growing amount of food waste, the integrated food waste and waste water treatment was regarded as one of the efficient modeling method. However, the load of food waste to the conventional waste treatment process might lead to the high concentration of total nitrogen（T-n） impact on the effluent water quality. The objective of this study is to establish two machine learning models-artificial neural networks（Anns） and support vector machines（SVMs）, in order to predict 1-day interval T-n concentration of effluent from a wastewater treatment plant in Ulsan, Korea. Daily water quality data and meteorological data were used and the performance of both models was evaluated in terms of the coefficient of determination（R^2）, nash-Sutcliff efficiency（nSE）, relative efficiency criteria（d rel）. Additionally, Latin-hypercube one-factor-at-a-time（LH-OAT） and a pattern search algorithm were applied to sensitivity analysis and model parameter optimization, respectively. Results showed that both models could be effectively applied to the 1-day interval prediction of T-n concentration of effluent. SVM model showed a higher prediction accuracy in the training stage and similar result in the validation ***, the sensitivity analysis demonstrated that the Ann model was a superior model for 1-day interval T-n concentration prediction in terms of the cause-and-effect relationship between T-n concentration and modeling input values to integrated food waste and waste water treatment. This study suggested the efficient and robust nonlinear time-series modeling method for an early prediction of the water quality of integrated food waste and waste water treatment process.

Reactivity of Recycled Glass Powder in a Cementitious Medium

The reactivity of the recycled glass powder (GP) in a cementitious medium has been studied over time by means of X-ray diffraction and thermal gravimetric analysis. Two different mixtures based on cement/glass powder (0 or 20 wt% GP) and lime/glass powder (70 wt% GP) were considered. Analysis revealed the coexistence of both hydration and pozzolanic reaction during the hardening of the mortars. At young age, the cement hydration would prevail over the pozzolanic one resulting in a decrease of physico-chemical n>n>name="_GoBack">n>n>n style="font-family:"">and mechanical properties of the material due to the dilution effect. The pozzolanic reaction that predominates from 91 days, would induce the formation of supplementary C-S-H leading to improve the material properties.

Epidemiological Facies of Human Rabies Deaths in Côte d’Ivoire from 2016 to 2022

Introduction: Rabies is a highly fatal viral disease outside the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). Data from previous studies and reports from the rabies center show that cases of death from human rabies are regularly reported, despite training measures for health workers, awareness-raising and communities, and the availability of vaccines. Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyse the determinants of human rabies deaths in Côte d’Ivoire from 2016 to 2022. Method: A retrospective cross-sectional qualitative study was carried out from January to August 2023 on all the records of patients who died of human rabies at the Treichville Rabies Center from 2016 to 2022. An analysis of the rabies center’s annual activity reports from 2016 to 2022 was also carried out in order to complete the information gathered from the files. Results: The socio-demographic characteristics showed that out of 148 deaths, children accounted for 47.97% (71) and 66.22% (98) of rabies deaths were male, with an M/F sex ratio of 1.96. In terms of clinical characteristics, in 97.30% (144) of cases, the deceased had presented with furious rabies, and analysis by the Pasteur Institute of Côte d’Ivoire laboratory confirmed 101 cases (92.66%) of human rabies. Geographical distribution showed that cases of human rabies were recorded in 56 health district, and 64% (94) of the deceased lived in rural areas. The main causes of the occurrence of rabies were essentially non-use of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and missed vaccination due to ignorance. Conclusion: In view of these results, control strategies and interventions need to be adapted to the epidemiological characteristics of the disease, using a community-based approach with a view to eliminating dog-transmitted rabies by 2030.

采用多壁碳纳米管(MWCnTs)为载体,分别以醋酸镉((CH3COO)2Cd.2H2O)和硫化钠(na2S.5H2O)为镉源和硫源,经简单逐滴滴入途径制备了CdS/CnT复合材料。再以四丁氧基钛(TnB)为钛源,苯为溶剂,成功地将二氧化钛(TiO2)纳米粒子沉积在CdS修饰的MWCnTs表面而得到CdS/CnT-TiO2光催化剂。利用n2吸附等温线、扫描电子显微镜、X射线衍射、能量分散性X射线分析以及透射电子显微镜对所制CdS/CnT-TiO2光催化剂进行表征。CdS/CnT-TiO2复合材料呈多孔结构,MWCnTs均匀分散在材料中,且未出现明显的TiO2和CdS纳米颗粒团聚体。该材料在紫外和可见光照射下对亚甲基蓝具有优异的降解活性。这不仅归因于TiO2对自由基的反应和MWCnTs吸附能力,且归因于引入窄带隙半导体CdS,使粒子在MWCnTs表面的电子转移速率得到提高。
